Great job as always guys...
I'm sure you'll have beta people very fast lined up as a lot of people have been looking forward to this. I wish to remind everyone to a few rules to keep in mind though...

When using Stage FW on your kISS player, it will not harm the unit at all
but if you need to send it in for Warranty, make sure you install original FW
first or kISS will void your warranty! (They will still repair the unit at a
reasonable price though but it can be avoided)

Enjoy
Hi-Jack

When installing this beta:

I´m doing a partial upgrade from original 1.1.7

After step 8 (in http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6699) it never says reboot, the last thing i saw was IMGSYM (or something) and then the player turned itself off.
ie. no reboot

When starting it upp again it seems to work but the root-menu (the left part) on both "Menu" and "Setup" is invisible. I can step through the different options but cant see where I am. The right suboptions display OK accordingly to the left menu-choise (that i cant see).

/Rgds, DM

To get around the menu display problem, I used the webconsole and followed the instructions to change backgrounds after editing the file shown I selected the default Kiss background. Then rebooted this gave me a background.

I PM'ed Martin about this problem so he might already be looking at it.

Yeah!

Changing backgroud (and back to Kiss original) in Webconsole/Modules and then activating first and last line in initscript did the trick.

the real problem seems to be that the vr-558 is starting up a little slower then the dp-558
The bootstart want to create a symlink to the ramdisk, but at this point the ramdisc is not moutend so it can be created

a fix could be:
1- slow down the stage1 binfile (delay) but i dont want that
2- place the line: "ln -s /imgrom /tmp/img" in the initstage2f file on default

i will think about the change.
I still need to implement a "failsafe boot" with the frontbuttons and its possible i will change the bootorder so let me first implement this function

When switching on and then selecting Menu after box has been in standby and harddrive has stopped. It takes quite awhile for the menu's to appear.

Is this due to the above problem or a stage 2 feature or just the time it takes for the Harddrive to startup. I've never noticed this before.

Once harddrive is running no lag.

Anyone else having this problem? also to mention I do have a NAS drive attached just incase this might be causing some issues.

Alan

its not a bug.
You did symlink the /img dir to your harddrive so its absolutely normal that the hdd needs to spin
If you put the symlink to the ramdisk (and ramdisk wil symlink to rom) then this will not be the case

so to fix this just place the line: "ln -s /imgrom /tmp/img" in the initstage2f file

then this will not happen (but then you can not use custom build background, change background etc)

Smudger075
05-01-07, 19:39
placed the line: "ln -s /imgrom /tmp/img" in the initstage2f file

now ok.

My wife have now given me permission, so if you need yet another beta-tester then please count me in. :D

beta version r5 is ready

just install it but then REMOVE the /hdd/stage2 with ftp and reboot
(unless this is your first stage2 firmware)

Please read the first message again so you know some changes
The most importent parts (for feedback) is:

- will the default flash fix the background pictures
(so do you see a background inside the setup menu WITHOUT the need to make a symlink)
- do you see a background picture if you press the "ff" fronbutton on boot for the flashmenu

if you want to test the flash you can goto the webmenu and select "webupdate" and enter "vr558_117_org" to download the original 117 firmware (and then reboot and press "ff" button to make the flash

If you want to betatest you need to send me a PM message
(also if you already did ask for the link just resend the request please)

background pics not ok after default flash (need to fix the symlink, done, feedback please)
:D :D

Martin

This is working fine I reloaded original Firmware via web console. Deleted Stage 2 Then I reloaded Stage2 no problem with backgound pic after reloading.

The only thing notice the display still shows DP 558 on Stage 2 instead of VR 558. but I know this is not an error.

Also tested all front button functions again no problems.

Thanks

shoutplay needs update (done) :D

Shoutplay also Working Perfect, with winamp no more high speed playback which is what I used to get using this.

After stopping EZLink services first.

Cheers

read the howto in the forum?
its a sticky post

you will have a webserver (just use browser to point to your kiss)

From the webconsole you will also find the howto info

hi,

i just installed stage 2.

-had to change the background to see the buttons in setup and menu

-while listening to some music from the hdd, i open the remote form the web-gui a pushed the stop button. music stopped but the kiss stopped doing anything else too :p webremote and real remote just didn't to anything. webconsole and telnet stilled worked. so i had to reboot.

-menu and setup take pretty much time to pop up (like 4 secs)

dadriver
27-01-07, 18:18
the kiss crashed again. this time while i was telneting to the device and checking out the environment and listing files. web-gui still works. the remote doesnt do anything. reboot.cgi doesn't work right now.

and number 3 :p

to me, it seems like the shell doesn't like bad commands... i want to look at the cgi-script, changed to cgi-bin and did a "vi env.cgi". the kiss crashed again.

oh, and i saw that the clock on the lcd stopped working too after the crash.

hmm, i did change the lash to fix a error but it seems its not ok

i will double check the lash file and try to reproduce this

cant reproduce this problem
can some other betatester confirm thos problems?
can you tell me exactly what to do to reproduce

27-01-07, 21:49
hey,

i just watched some tv (i got an receiver conntected to the scart input of the divx) whend suddenly the sound changed to a noise. i switched the kiss off and on using my remote (only the kiss, not the receiver). it solved the problem.

another thing i recognized:
when i record something (scart input, timeshift) and watch the vob on my pc with vlc or encode it, i got really bad effects in the movie. it's fine when watching it with the kiss. is this stage2 related???

dadriver
27-01-07, 21:54

not exactly, i'm trying to force a crash, but i just can't. didnt crash again since the last time. but i'll try on and report exactly what i did if i can get it to crash

dadriver

here is what i did:

forget to set scroll back to unlimted...
before that i opended some files and moved around in the filesystem.
i also did a "dmesg" over the web-gui with the exec.cgi.

not exactly, i'm trying to force a crash, but i just can't. didnt crash again since the last time. but i'll try on and report exactly what i did if i can get it to crash

hmm, i think you just got yourself a vr-558 did you?
I suggest to reinstall original firmware first so you don’t mix the kiss-bugs (white-noise) with stage2 bugs

Its much better to first use original firmware for a few months and then try stage2 (so then you know the difference)

But thanks for the feedback

dont forget that the kiss is a NON-MMU system
so if you make one error on a command (for example type a binfile to the console) then it will crash

the point of betatesting is to find out if original part of the firmware are still stable
Its not that hard to let a non-mmu system crash

the edit.cgi is a C binfile (its NO script)
so if you cat a binfile to the console its normal that the kiss crash
(no MMU)

please try to focus on the "general stuff"

please test all cgi scripts, read the html pages
find errors / typos etc and please report

Thanks for testing

I also have installed the VR558 stage2 beta now.
Here the first results:
(I switched off ftp and pclink _before_ upgrade)
Upgrade and download worked like a charm.
One hint (perhaps unimportant): As I have a DSL-Router which breaks internet-connection after some minutes I made sure that the router has a working internet connection right before the first reboot.

* The symlink to img works for me.
* Webconsole also works (like telnet and ftp). Only some modules tested: o.k.
* web-remote works (not thoroughly tested) channel-switching, menu, setup, pwr/standby, play/pause...

* I had only one crash during telnet (nothing special done: cd /systempart)-> reboot needed.
But as I'm used to: I typed "tab" after "/sys" for autocompletion. This didn't work (now I know) and after that VR crashed.
After reboot no crash during telnet.

* Other (non stage2 related) functions work like before.

If you need some things tested more detailed, please let me know.

Thanks for the really nice work!

Xantho

So your "tab" did crash the player one time or can you reproduce this
i did change the "lash" shell and its possible i made a error
I also had this problem one time but i never could reproduce this again

(maybe its crashing if the hd is spin down?)

but we need more testing to be sure

I didn't typed "tab" again as I wanted to test some other things. (And as I already had some 0 byte recordings and wanted to avoid reformatting of hdd/ power off - power on the VR more than really needed).
The hd was not spinned down as I logged into telnet just about 20 or 30secs earlier and ls'ed through some directories.
I will try to reproduce this on weekend. Perhaps earlier.

Already mentioned in the PM:
One Image is one from the DP-romfs (could be more but this was the most obvious one):
the image \imgrom\logo.gif (it's the transparent "k|i|s|s dp-558" which appears in the menu at the top left corner). But this doesn't affect functionality at all.

i still think the kiss crashes even when not catting bin files.
on the first 2 crashes, i haven't had established a telnet connection to the kiss, so...

just like Xantho, i also tabbed when i was on the console. but it didn't crash right after that.

i haven't had a crash recently, but i didn't use any stage2 function.

same thing for me

but there's another thing: since yesterday, my the lcd of my kiss says "EPG LIST", every minute or so. it's still working fine. i'm not doing a reboot or anything, just in case you need further information.

The "EPG LIST" on lcd is normal (it will be 1 time / 5 minutes) and this is related to the original kiss firmware
(it will check the EPG for the channel info)

But i did reproduce the error with the "tab completion" so this is a bug and is related to stage2/lash

I hope to fix this but i have some delay because i fuc*ed up the player after a to fast power off/on (so PSU is completely death)

I downloaded kissiso.iso,
I burned it on a CD,
loaded it into my kiss,
got a message telling me to turn off and on the power which I did.

However it does not boot it keeps on saying "please wait" on the LCD display. Waiting patiently 15 minutes does not help. Turning off and on the power does not help.

I cannot eject the CD and it does not react whatever button I press.

What do I do?

do you have a vr-558 or a dp-558?
Did you use the vr-558 iso (did i send you a link with PM)
or did you use the dp-558 iso on a vr-558 ?

Anyway if you have a vr-558 you need to:

-turn off player
-place a pen on the reset button (on back) and HOLD it
-turn on player
- cd will eject

if you have a dp-558 and you placed a vr-558 iso then you:

- turn off player
- press the eject and HOLD it
- turn on player
- cd will eject

you need to hold for +- 5 seconds

If I turn off the Kiss, hold the reset button, and turn on the Kiss it does not send any signal to the TV and it keep on saying "please wait...." on the LCD. When I release the reset button after 15 sec. the cd starts spinning. Besides that nothing happens.

Should i try to disassemble the kiss to get the CD out?

is there a notification list or something where you can sign up for info on the release of VR 558 Stage 2?

And is there a list of bug fixes to be found? (Haveing troubles with the known(?) bugs myself:
Hard Drive Problems (Disk Full, Can Not Record)
FTP speed and stability )

stage2 will "fix" both problems
(fsck will fix the 0kb problems, inetd will fix the ftp stability)
But there is still a nasty but on the "hush shell" so i need to fix this before i will continue the betatest
(and my player broke down so there is some delay)

As soon i got the hush shell fixed i will start a new betatest and you will read this in the forum

Yes, true in original firmware I have problems with both uploading and downloading large files.

I have now installed Stage2 Beta for VR-558.

After downloading and burning a new CD everything went smoothly and I am so impressed!

I have worked my way through the menus and I must admit, that the response is a lot faster than the original firmware. However it still freezes over at occasions (I will find out when and return to you)

All menu points seems to be there except for one. I cannot select "Component" in "video output" in the set up menu.
Scart RGB, S-video and Scart component are there but not
"component", which is the one I use as it gives me a slightly
better picture.

Sometimes the Kiss shows a blue screen when playing video from
my VCR (this problem might already exist on the old firmware and
it might even be a hardware problem).

The few features I have tested on the WEB-menu worked perfectly.

I look forward to further testing.

Hi I am new here, I have the VR-558 for 3 months or so and I hope that there will be soon a new firmware like 1.1.8 or something. Does this stage 2 have a 16:9 menu option ? Can it give my tv a signal to jump from 4:3 to 16:9 if the avi it self is a 16:9 file, like most common players in Windows do ?

I’m waiting for a new PSU or a repaired PSU :(

its hard to believe that there is no way to get a working PSU from kiss/divxplayer/

as soon I have a working player I can continue working on this firmware
Somehow I have the feeling that Woodstock will get it repaired faster then I can get a spare PSU from kiss/divxplayer

you are correct
its a stage2 bug and need to fix this
the fipmodule is the module the dp-558 is using
the vr-558 is using a other module

will write it down at the wiki in the todo / bugreport

you need to use:

./fsck -x 32000 -X /systempart/bmcache -vf /dev/discs/disc0/part2

and you need to run this from the /systempart

- so telnet to kiss
- type in "cd /systempart"

and then copy/paste the line above and try again

Ooops!

I only now noticed that Smudger has the above mentioned problem with a beta 5 release... This is not the case with me: I have installed the 117RF and after restarting the player I get the message STAGE2 and then DEBUG; after which nothing changes--I still seem to be running the kiss FW with the exception of the stage2 directory (btw, I can record but cannot playback, is that normal?).
If the cause of this problem is the same as for Smudger, no problem, I will wait until it is fixed. If not, I will have to check everything again.

No, you have a complete other problem so i will explain

if you are running the vr-558 betafirmware then you will have a problem when you reformat harddisc or remove the /hdd/stage2 dir
(so just install the original kiss version)

but you dont have the beta installed, you have the public released 1.1.7 RF version for the DP-558 and this is NOT broken

(so you are posting in the wrong thread)

if you have problems with the 1.1.7 RF then i suggest to:
- ftp to the player
- remove the /hdd/stage2 dir with ftp
- reboot player and WAIT til the download complete (max 5 minutes)
- be sure your internet is running otherwise this will fail!!!!

It will be ok, if not then post your problem again (or send me a PM)

Sorry about the mix-up.

Btw, I followed your instructions but still had to retry a bunch of times. It seems to me that the kiss attempts to start the download just a bit sooner than my router has given it a dhcp lease!! By patching it straight on to my adsl modem (which also uses dhcp, btw) the download worked! Perhaps slowing down the timing of the first request a little could help the installation?
Last and not least: I am very excited about this! TREMENDOUS JOB!! Well done!

Cheers

I have installed Stage2 on my VR-558 300M without problems.
The player is connected to Internet via a WiFi acces point and an adsl router with DHCP enabled.
All software downloaded ok.
A question: I tried to start fsck from WEB console but nothing happened for a lot of time (about 1/2 hour). Then I started fsck from front button. The LCD wrote WAIT_?? and after about 20 minutes this string was replaced by the digit 1. At this point the player didn't respond to any button, so i had to swiitch it off. After reboot all was ok. Is this correct?
I didn't yet tried fsck from telnet.

thanks for your feedback
fsck from frontbutton is 100% perfect result
it take +- 20 minutes and give a returncode
see wiki for info about this

My VR-558 (400) have been replaced (RMA) - a broken TV-tuner.

I just "upgraded" from DP to VR (both 558) and I really miss the stage2 gems. Is it possible to take a look at the beta? Current fw is 1.1.7 and HD=300GB

I installed without any problems at all.
But at first boot, when asking one to chose what type of connection
you have between player and TV, it was obviou.

Black screen with white text.
It looks to me like it isn't displaying images at all.

My setup and menu are also missing iimage.
Also it seems that init isn't taking care of starting the httpd.

I did a full upgrade from the 1.1.8 official firmware.

I'm going to give it a full update one more time and see if it
was just a fluke.

hmm, im not sure if i did tel you but DONT DO A FULL UPDATE
just a partial

on first boot it wil download parts (like the background) from a webserver
and if you de a full update your internetsettings are gone and you NEED a working internet setting on your first boot

the way to fix is:

-setup your ip settings (and dns)
-test if webradio work (just to be sure you have internet on the player)
-flash partial
-reboot
-wait for download to comlete

and report back if this works

and remember that download only is done 1 time
if you want to redownload you NEED to remove the /hdd/stage2 with ftp!!

No I wasn't aware of that ... not doing full the first time.
I'll check that it has static IP and that network connectivity works.
Then do a partial and see what happens.

I'll report back in a few.
Thanks.

I tried what you suggested to no prevail.
The ftp was starting, but no login worked.
I started it up in debug mode, and was able to telnet in.
I did a ./bin/setup.init and saw that it was erroring quite hard.
It seems that the /hdd/stage2 folder wasn't there, plus lots of
other scripts or folders missing, Some of the script could not be read due to
permissions, go figure? I'm trying one last thing now.
One button fsck. If this doesn't help I'm going to install the official 1.1.7 fw then
clean up the hdd .. and setup everything. With that done I'll do the stage2 install
and this time PARTIAL not full :)

You should know that my player didn't respond to front panel buttons
in order to get it into debug or fsck mode. Only remote control input worked.

Eject button on remote while booting = debug mode
Play/pause on remote while booting = fsck mode

Perhaps someone should update the wiki to include this? I saw another user
who's name I can't recall at this moment, who also had to use the remote to
access these features.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

The fsck seems to do nothing, I waited 40 minutes before stopping it.
I've now installed the official 1.1.7 firmware and it's back to normal.

Only one dir on the harddisk and it's the hdd, it created a /hdd/pvr after I tried
recording something.

I tried installing stage2 doing the partial, and the install went fine, but
it never downloaded after rebooting. It gave no errors in the lcd, just says
please wait, some ---- apparts and it says "default" but no downloading.

It has a working connection to the internet both before and after install.

I'm about out of ideas here now.

I did a test and it did work like it should
can you PM me with the downloadlink so I’m sure you did use the same version

its possible there is some disc structure problem on your player and the files are not saved ok on the hard disc

I also don’t understand why the fronbuttons don’t work on your player
you did press the button ONE time while the ---- line is growing ?

Yeah, everything is possible I guess, I have done a complete reset though.
No errors with the 1.1.7 or 1.1.8 official firmwares.

You know, it's been so long I can't remember how and what in regards
to the front panel buttons. I'm sure I followed the instructions though.

It seems to me. from telnet into it .. that what was missing, was the download done at first startup. If we can force that to start somehow?

you did press the button ONE time while the ---- line is growing ?

I just tried downloading, burning and flashing my player again.
The same result.

The ---- line grows, but disappears very fast, then it says
DEFAULT for a very short time, and after that it check the EPG, and
then just idle.

Firmware still says 1.1.7 in menu/setup and it looks like there's no
background image. Also the stage2 dir is not there.

I have it set on a static IP, using my ISP DNS server.
The FTP and PClink is disabled before trying the update.

I don't know what's going on with my player now, but it doesn't
seem to want to run the firmware update anymore?

I've redownloaded and burnt the image several times now.
It sees it as a bootdisc, and gives the message about restarting the player.

From there it just hangs with the "Please wait!" message in the display.
I have to use the reset button on the back while turning it off/on again
to eject the CD.

Why' O 'why am I always the one with the problems ;)

Ignore the above, a boot DVD worked .. anyways !
I installed the firmware again, booted the player as asked,
and the ---- appeared shortly, where after it says "default" and
goes on to it's regular stuff .. epg check, epg list.

It's no different from the other tries I'm afraid :(
Cant ftp in .. unable to establish secure ftp session.
Telnet not running, no webserver either.
It's unable to play recorded content.

Is there a std user on the ftp ?

no, its not a busybox bug

can you please tel me if you enter the 1e or 2e button to enter failsafe/debug ?

it should be the 2e button if you have a vr (PLAY/PAUSE) and you should see "failsafe" on lcd

If you are in failsave then please execute the /bin/setup.init again

OK.
No it never worked from front panel buttons before.
I use eject on the remote to enter debug mode before.

I just tried again, and it completely ignores it when I press play/pause
frontpanel. I tried play/pause on remote, which made it do fsck.

I know from earlier experience that this will never finish. (fsck I mean)

Rewind on the remote gave me failsafe.

nikog
10-05-08, 23:48
As I wrote before, the remote button rewind put it in failsafe.
But it only shows that in the LCD for 5 seconds.

Then it goes back to normal mode :(

Do you know where I can find a KNOWN working 1.1.7 image?
I want to revert to 1.1.7 full update.
Then do a HDD format from the menu.
Then add the missing audio, pictures and video folders.

And when it's all back to "out of the box" try the stage2 again.

who can provide me the stage2 beta version?

i need to install my vr-558 player first and test the current beta
(i was working on a other firmware and wanted to release this first)

but dont the 1.1.8 firmware has a fsck utility when you boot the player fom the bootcd (firmware cd) ?

and if your filesystem is bad then its not easy to install the stage2 firmware and you wil need to use telnet commands to run the fsck tool

Hi martinb,

I'm fascinated by stage2 possibilities, I have a VR-558-300 (with changed caps), and would like to test the stage2 beta and in return to give feedbach here.

How long do you estimate will it take to make a stable version and how difficult is it to revert back to 1.1.8 in case stage2 freezes ?

sorry for the delay

I have a new beta for the vr-558
its running on my player at this time

but I do need betatesters who can test playback for files

I have read in the 1.1.8 firmware release that people did have problems on some files with the 1.1.8
on this firmware i did place 3 different mediaplayers
(1.1.6,1.1.7 and 1.1.8) so you can choose a other mediaplayer

i want to find out if the playbackproblem is related to mediaplayer
(or not)

just give me a PM (personal message) with a link request

ONLY ASK FOR THE LINK if you have the time to give feedback in the forum

Hi martin,
could you indicate if the install procedure and firmware limitations are still the same as in the first post of this thread (do a partial update not a full, pclink limitations, etc.) - this could prevent some beta testers to do some install mistakes ;-)
regards,
frederic.

hi martin,
I successfully installed stage 2 on my VR558. No pb except that I had to use a DVD, no way to do it with a CD (whereas Kiss firmwares are ok with a CD).
I'm now able to access to my kiss using the Stage2 Webconsole!
I tested the 2 mediaplayers included (1.1.4 and 1.1.7) on a movie that hangs at 100% with 1.1.8: it's ok with the 2 different media players.
Did not try with 1.1.8 mediaplayer as I can't find it on the WebConsole (looked also in stage2/bin, I can only find MediaPlayer_114 and MediaPlayer_117).
Anyway for the moment it runs smoothly, great job!

Thanks,

I did update the first post, please check this one to find out the know, solved problems
also check the background pictures on the flash

you wil be able to do a new flash without cd/dvd
please read the WIKI how to use the frontbuttons

I will update the first post with the missing 1.1.8 mediaplayer (i did forget this one, will fix this and give you info how to update)

most parts of stage2 are on the harddisc
the "core" is inside the rom

We don’t need a new flash to fix the mediaplayers
I will make a "please test" list as soon we have more betatesters

"also check the background pictures on the flash "

==> not tested using the front buttons (movie actually playing ;-), but the TUX image was there when I installed stage2 from the DVD drive.

Note: is it possible to run MC (Midnight Commander) on the Kiss, for example during a telnet session? That's so convenient on my Syno NAS to edit files (I'm not so familiar with VI ;-)

its possible but someone needs to compile this
its will not be very useful on the kiss , we only have 12 MB total memory
the hdd (ide part) is very slow, and if you want to edit files you can use the html fronteditor

I did update the files for mediaplayer

please do the following steps

1- ftp to kis player
2- remove the complete /hdd/stage2 dir
3- reboot

the player will download all parts again and you will see a 1.1.8 mediaplayer

i will make a new startpost in a few days

Thanks. Just did the test with all players: 1.1.8 player hangs (blocked at LOAD 100), others players are ok.

Edit: for information. When player hanged at LOAD 100, it can be easily unlocked by pressing STOP and changing player from Webconsole without having to reboot the player.

about the playback problem

is this always ?, on some files ?
divx/xvid/mpg4 ?

can you please test the webbrowser and all the remote keys on the html remotecontroller ?

skoubidoufr

hi martin,
the playback pb occurs on some xvid files streamed by my Syno NAS (kissdx), and is not systematic. I just reproduced it now with 1.1.8 player, and as the player hanged I did a reboot from telnet and now it works perfectly with the same file (I like 1.1.8 as I can get audio sound on my TV even if sound set to numeric).
I have extracted a video sequence of only 380K bytes that is sufficient to reproduce the problem (when it happens), if you are interested please give your mail adress by PM I will send it to you.

concerning the web remote interface, it seems ok except when using play/pause which seems to be normal as far as I have understood (as soon as I hit play timeshift recording starts and therefore ethernet is cut).

Just a point concerning the LCD display, it seems that the text is truncated (for example I see RGB SCAR instead of RGB SCART) - however not 100% sure about this one as I already encountered this kind of issue with original firmwares (that I could solve by rebooting the kiss with the ethernet unplugged, don't ask me why, but here it does not work), so to be confirmed by someone else.

a question to conclude: i read some posts ago that Stigpo made an alternative mp3 player which could display the covert art, is it still working with stage2?

happy user of stage2 on my vr-558
already tested web modules/functions:

cgi:
reboot - 404 Not Found. The requested URL was not found on this server.
uptime - hw time in my case: local-1
klcd - too far from set to see it
power - fine; display webremote
ps - fine
kill - works (tested on telnetd)
exec - seems fine (ps, ls with args)

modules:
Jtelnet - works for me
e2fsck - not tested
Channel Browser - Error: fipmodule address not found (is it loaded?!)
Rec. Schedule Browser - ok (only simply changes to already set recordings)
Macro Code - Error: fipmodule address not found (is it loaded?!)
Channel Editor - not tested
webremote - almost all tv function tested - now I'm separated by a wall so have tested by hearing only - the rest for about a week (lap at the front of tv ;).
Shoutplay - not tested
Background - changing works (tested on 2. and 3. pic)
mediaplayers - all ok on previous playable movies

thanks to martinb and the others

also concerning the test of web console,
- Nvramhtml link not working in "configure your player"
- same for reboot in cgi
- jtelnet ok
- backgrounds changing ok (except that the original is from a dp558 and not a vr558 ;-) )
- of course mediaplayer change ok

thanks for the feedback

will make a new start post and will post the found bugs and will start on a new version this weekend

@skoubidoufr

stipgo did made a cmdplayer
this cmdplayer is inside stage2 on the harddisc
if you look in the forum you will find how to use this

but it will not display anything on the screen

he did start a project on sf (look at the linkpage on the stage2 webinterface) but it will not work on the original firmware
(you will need to remove the complete kiss init and then you will not have the possibility to record video etc etc)
You can always ask him about his work, would be nice if he starts working again on his project

Hello Martin, I don't have much experience with this forum but for days I'm looking for a link to download Stage2 firmware for my VR-558 player. As far as I understand it, you can send a link where I can download. Can you do this ? My email address is ppegasuss@telenet.be. Thank you very much in advance !

Hi Martin,

At the moment I'll het read errors by accessing the HDD. The disk check, which comes within the upgrade to 1.1.8, comes with an error message.

I would like to try stage2 firmware disk check for my VR558.
Is it possible to have a download link?
