View Full Version : TViX M-5000A or IAMM NTD36HD?

Hi,

I've been using a Neuston MC-500 for several years, and have been quite happy with it. However, I'm now looking for a replacement with HD and FLAC support. Although not mentioned in the review or spec, from this forum it appears that the M-5000A supported FLAC at firmware version 2.0.3 - is this still the case with the latest firmware?

If so, then from an audio point of view the purchasing decision points to the TViX - but I guess a future firmware update for the IAMM could incorporate FLAC support. Dvico seem to have a good track record regarding regular firmware updates (which Neuston has in the early years, which was a major factor in my decision to buy one), whereas it's perhaps too early to tell with IAMM.

I appreciate that neither offers X/H264 support, but how does the video quality compare between the two - the IAMM gets a good review in this department, but the TViX remains Hi-Jack's recommended buy.

Finally, apart from the poor support for tags and a generally poor user interface for audio files on the Neuston (which seems to be true of most players, I guess as the focus in on the video side), the biggest gripe I have with the Neustion is that there's a delay in starting audio playback (so the first second or so is lost), and it's impossible to get gapless playback of MP3s between tracks. Is there any difference between the two players in this respect?

I appreciate that new devices are always coming out, and you could put off your purchasing decision for ever on that basis! Given that I'm happy to take the plunge now, then given my priorities outlined above, which player do you think would best meet my needs?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

Alan

Well, I guess you already know my opinion reading the reviews...
Expand your selection and look at the N35 as well... which my highest
recommendation of the 3 followed by the TViX, IAMM, Dueple...

(Gapless playback not possible on either but they all start MP3 from the beginning :-) )
