View Full Version : No Network??
Hi, I just received my brandnew EVA 8000 yesterday :D , but while trying to set it up i came upon a very disappointing problem, that netgear support has not been able to solve (seeing as they seem to have noone there who understands very much about networking at all!):
when I start the Multimedia Configurator from the software package to point out the shares where it should look for content, it gives me an error message saying that it can't find a network. o.k., well so i went ahead a configured a network (even though i of course do have one!), disabled all my firewalls, enabled uPnP with my router - the works. still no luck, the darn thing doesn't recognize it! i'm at my wits end, any suggestions?
Regards, dennis
Not enough info.
Are you trying to share data on your XP PC? Vista? Nas server? which one?
O.K., my bad.
My OS is Windows XP, SP2, the media files are (for the time being) on an external hard drive hooked up to the computer as well as on internal hard drives. I am using the EVA 8000 to replace my KISS DP558, which did just fine in streaming content from the same sources.
Both my PC as well as the EVA are connected through LAN cables with my FritzBox DSL Router. I have enabled uPnP in the router.
I installed the software package from the CD (plus checked on Netgears's site, it was the current version) and followed the manual exactly (several times now!). However, when I start the "Multimedia configurator" on the third window it gives me an error message saying that no network could be found; it then refers me on to the default windows network setup assistent. I have gone through that routine several times and successfully established networks, but after rebooting the computer the "Multimedia configurator" is still not able to find a network. This is a critical step because without finding a network the software won't allow me to specify the locations of my media files, it just exits the software! This step is referred to in HJ's review as follows: "After the setuo is complete, another wizard pops up for configuring the NetGear HD EVA8000. In this part we can set up the folders we would like to share with the device..." - this is exactly what doesn't happen!
My router recognizes the player and I can also ping it. I really don't know what else to do, and neither does anybody at Netgear. I am close to returning the player, but from HJ review and what I have read about it it is exactly what I need - if only it worked, that is...
ANY help is appreciated!
Best regards
Dennis
One last question: Could I also use EZLink software to stream to the EVA8000? Are there any other options?
Dennis
I think i'm right in saying that you can use standard SMB shares to stream data to the EVA 8000. Personally I find this works better for my XBMC than a Upnp server (Buffalo link 1.6 or Wizd).
Can't find much in the manual about it but there is a mention on page 7-3.
If not you can always try a different Upnp server. Of them the Buffalo Linktheater 1.6 software seemed to be best on my Lite-on 2010. Can;t hurt to try.
