I have a NAS called \\ReadyNAS with a `media` share on it all in a workgroup called HOME. I can see it from my XP SP2 desktop and I have the Vista Premium laptop in the same workgroup and I cant see the NAS. I have been through the regedit procedure in the Infrant FAQ. I still cannot see the NAS drive when I browse the network, what could be wrong? The nas has two 500g drives and 3.01c1-p6 firmware as far as I can tell.

In fact the Vista laptop sees the Workgroup as empty apart from its self and does not even show the workgroup in the Browse network dialogue when mapping a drive only its own computer name. I have network discovery turned on as well as file share. Hope this helps a little more.

Andy :?

I have just run MS update again to get any updates but still no good.

Check the firewall settings...
Disable the firewall (Disable the service in control panel) and try again.

I am diabeling the firewall now I think it came with a 30 day norton thing. I did hear rumours that Vista Home has been crippled by MS in terms of networking is this true? Disableing the firewall did not help and both WiFi and wired act the same. I cant see a workgroup or the XP SP2 machine in it. Any thing else to try?

Andy

Edit ... I can now map from the XP machine to the Vista one. BTW the guest account on the laptop is disabled.

Another edit ... I was too quick for it turning off the firewall worked now I try to find out what the firewall blocked ... what fun :(

Thank you Hi-Jack ... Dont let it go to your head :D

I just found out that other people have had this with Norton and solved it by adding the IPs of the local network (eg. 192.168.0.1) to the trusted list under the firewall options. Hope this helps others.
