Hi, i made some wallpapers for the TviX if anyone is interested you can use them. Dont forget to change the filename to TviX.jgp and put it in the folder you want it to be seen.

Thanks for all the comments! Her is a new one for the childrens movies. I have also updated the HDDVD wallpapers so they are in much higher quality now. If you are missing some other motives just ask me and i will se if i can fix it :). Sorry for my crappy english hehe.

Great work! The interface already looks a lot slicker with this. What I would also really love is to have a wallpaper for the icon view, so for instance for music the headphones would just be vaguely visible in the background.
Any inspiriration on other categories, such as for instance Rock, Jazz, Pop Music or Documentaries, TV series, Movies etc?

I found this user-interface for make your own wallpaper.

This makes it easy to add movie information and pictures for each movie. You can even use the wallpapers in this thread as a nice background. I'll show you what my wallpaper looks like now:

Updated Jan 13, 2008 to version 0.58 (Has important bug fix for Amazon Assisted mode)
Recent changes....
Skips loading of user preference settings if option (Alt on PC's) key is held down during launch.
Able to automatically obtain descriptive text and cover art from Amazon.
Descriptive text is automatically trimmed in length to fit in wallpaper and rendering IS saved automatically.
Limited batch processing of up to 30 movies at a time possible, but feature must be used with great caution. Could cause data or media loss if things go awry. Program does not always select the correct art and text. Use only with data you have backed up!
Web search for manual (non-assisted) search can be set to start at Amazon, IMDB, or Walmart. (under Advanced panel)
User adjustable text size, font, text positioning and margins.
User adjustable cover art resizing, repositioning and rotation in real time.
Can take a folder of plain files (e.g., a folder full of iso's) and enclose each file in a new folder. This converts a plain file structure to the folder enclosed structure needed to use a TViX wallpaper GUI.
You can drag an image (or an image file) into the Rendering window for use as cover art. Useful if you have locally stored artwork or wish to drag directly from a browser window. This is sometimes more convenient than using the clipboard.
Drag and drop of text (but not text files) works allows dropping text into the synopsis edit field or main window. Dropping into WINDOW replaces ENTIRE synopsis. Dropping into synopsis FIELD adds to existing text.
Automatically saves and loads user settings and remembers location of enclosing folder across application launches.

OK let me work on some more as these were only the first batch I did. Need to tweak them and come up with alternatives.
Once I do I will share the jpg's for anyones use.

It seems there is a slight demand for decent 6500 wallpapers and no one seems to be interested in doing the work.
So i thought, what the hell, i'm on holidays, lets go nuts
i have spent some time trying to replicate the current GUI wallpapers, as the x100 are just not the right colours
so here is what I've come up with

Ive created images for all my movies using the excellent Movie Gui builder however I don't have any icons for the top level "genre" folders. Has anyone created any they could share?

I have a separate folder for a master index - i use m3u files to created a link to all the movies, coz i often cant never remember what genre i filed movies under

While every body is chipping in with their requests for icons, I might as well add my 2 cents worth. I also store other media formats and other data on my TViX, not that the TViX can read or display them, but since the TViX can be used as a storage device, why not. So I would like, if possible, top level icons, not genre categories, for the following media types, just to have a consistently designed set of icons - maybe along the lines of the 3d candy icon you did for "Romance"?

to mauroma - you have series and shows listed, to my mind they are the same thing.
could you please give me more of a description of how you separate the 2, i'm not quite sure of what you want and so i can get a better idea of what graphics to use for each.
I'll add your requests to my list, - may be a few days though.

i was thinking about the top folder request and had a quick play with the candy icons.
Then decided it was utter crap and did this instead

How do you use the Icons?
can I put the icons in any folder to show the Icon instead of the "ugly" map?
Do I have to rename them to somethingg like tvix.png to get this to work.
Some help is wanted since I have already tried different things.
You put them in the directory they represent and rename them to folder.png. As long as the tvix is set to display in icon mode (which you can do with the function button) you should get the icons.

The above design is a concept icon for the boot screen, however my skills are somewhat limited to graphics, and changing the boot screen/main screen icons (plus internal HD/network/usb icons) requires modification to the actual firmware.
Something that badip is doing - see above or on the opentvix site.
he is doing some awesome work,
i will continue playing with icon and wallpaper design, and hopefully badip will intergrate it into his customised firmware. (as he sees fit) This means that you will have to reflash your tvix and mess about with it abit.

Hi,
There are a few icons that are not utilized on the TViX 6500 that can be easily activated if you install my BadEIP firmware (see: www.wahlman.no)
These icons, if available, will be displayed when a file with the associated extension exist in the working directory (in non-icon mode)
The icons are fairly small 29x29 px, so it is a challenge creating something both nice and descriptive.
The approach for adding the new icons are as follows. (see also: http://www.wahlman.no/?p=235)
1) download and install the BadEIP OpenTViX version of your choice.
2) mount the exported Samba (Windows) share called root
(see my FAQ: http://www.wahlman.no/?page_id=337 for a more detailed description).
3) browse to /mnt/jffs2_apps/tvix/gui/bitmaps (this is where all the default grapics are located).
4) Put a suitable icon with one of the following names in this directory (They do not exist by default):
Hvideoicon.png
Haudioicon.png
Hpictureicon.png
Hfoldericon.png
Hopenfoldericon.png
Hfirmwareicon.png
Hm3uicon.png
Hisoicon.png
Hscheduleicon.png
Hsubtitleicon.png
HfoldericonBlack.png

I put a file named Hfirmware.png in this folder in my firmware. That allows me to display a nice, non-decorative skull right next to all .fwp images.
There are also other things that might be done, such as changing the GUI entirely (check out the /mnt/jffs2_apps/tvix/gui/xml folder), or exchanging the default menus (main menu, setup, etc.).
I would really like improve the firmware, so contributions are more than welcome.

I asked this question once on the OpenTViX forum (http://forum.opentvix.com/), never got an answer.
Assuming a copy of your open firmware is loaded on the TViX, is there a straightforward way to make a screen dump, so as to avoid having to take photos of a TV screen (not as easy as it sounds, for a quality result)? If not, could a screen dump facilty be readily added? This would be for still screen images, such as when icons or wallpaper are being displayed. I was thinking there must be an area of RAM somewhere that stores the screen image.
This would make it much easier to show others the results of making changes to the TViX GUI, a good example being able to show the results from changing the TViX icons for the eonnemisis ones.

It might be possible to dump to e.g framebuffer information, but I have not done much research on that yet, as I have focused on the watchdog (which I solved yesterday btw.).
The kernel is built with framebuffer support, but the devices returns ENOENT (no such device or address) when opened.

Agreed we can use the respective image that is shown on the screen, but this is not really what I meant by screen dump - I guess I explained badly. What I would like is an exact replica of what can be seen on the TV screen, which includes stuff generated by the TViX, such as file names, file sizes, modified times, as well as other stuff. For example, when displaying a wallpaper as generated by the Movie Gui Builder, the TViX overlays at the top of the TV screen the disk status images, plus it lists files contained in the folder and highlights the first file in brown. I'd like a dump of the whole shooting match, "just as seen on TV". The only way I imagine this is possible is to dump the framebuffer.
Possible? If you provide me with some pointers, I'm more than willing to investigate.

I just have a question about the icon mode. Ive started using your icons, i only use external HDD's via USB. But, when in Icon mode, how can i change between the HDD's?
Ive been playing around with it, but can do it in Icon mode. As for now i have to enter a folder which does not have icons to then press left button and select the other HDD. Kind of uneccesary...

Notice that I darken the left side of the wallpapers so that the display of files gets readable. Not 100% happy with the Eureka wallpaper since the name is also darkened. Will see what I can do about that.

Just wanted to say once again, awesome job eonnemisis, even more so that you would post your templates (and offer the psds??) with no hesitation (some artists/creators definitely would not do that),
thanks for that, the reason i have shared is that i hoped other would start to do the same, and we could get some really diverse and awesome stuff happening.

excellent work dude, it's so cool to actually see a screen shot of my icons in use, and that you've used the templates.
I love the battlestar wallpaper.
as for the over darkening problem, try my overlay template,
it's a transparent png, place it over the centre wallpaper and it should darken your image just enough to make the file text sharper, but not obscure the picture too much

I've made some icons for dvd discs (for series), if anyone is interested. After trying to make them for 2.5 hours, i've just gained more and more respect for your skills! Ind the end, I went back to simple and clear incons.
Well done dude, having a crack is what it's all about, simple and clear is always the best, overcomplicating things often makes them look like crap.

it took me the better part of 3 weeks to complete the clapboard series.
To migrate the images to black globes will probably take the better part of a day with no sleep.
So i had a better idea.
I'll let you the people have a go.
I've had heaps of people PM me for my psd files and i quickly found that i could not email the files without cutting out heaps of the art works and simplifying them to very basic templates.
So now i present to everyone the complete unabridged version of these files, including all artworks perviousely posted.
So now you can modify my icons to vary to your own tastes, how cool.

I have a problem with my Icon's not always showing up. I can open them up and usually they exit out and they show, but not always. Some might open and other just show the original folder icon. anyone else have this problem ?? Thanks for all the direction and Icon's, it's been fun playin with it and I love the new look! :lol:

I've downloaded the photoshop files that eonnemisis uploaded. That is very tidy organisation in those files! I was pleasantly suprised to see so many extra icons ready to be output that hadn't yet been uploaded and linked on this thread.
I have created a logo of the "crystal" style for both Terminator Chronicles and Prison Break as I'm sure these are ones lots of people are currently watching.
I have also taken the liberty of uploading some extra ones which I don't recall seeing here of which eonnemisis did all of the hard photoshop work, all I did was output the .png and upload them. Included in this are some "Season X" style logos which will hopefully be of use to some people, again it was eonnemisis who did the PS work, I simply output and uploaded them.
I intend to try and augment this collection with many others when I get time (at most 30 minutes per night if I'm lucky!). I also would like to have a try at some nice wall papers to accompany the icons.
One thing I am not yet sure how to do, is how to replace the "up folder" on the tvix and also the default background on the first "Video" screen if possible. Any help, much appreciated.

I replaced some of the default, 'non-changable', icons with some excellent versions made by Eonnemisis in my latest TViX 6500 firmware.
This firmware should also fix the Korean language lock for affected units.

The globes are all the same - garamond
for everything else, well too many to mention
however if you click on the text tool then highlight the click on the text (or text layer), it should tell you what font it is in the Font name section.
You can then search dafont to find it.
@Wonder : Have finished the epsiodes, made some minor changes.
I didn't know how many you want or which type so I have only done 20 and of both.

When the TViX displays wallpaper, 1280x720, you do not see every pixel on the screen. A "frame" of pixels around the outside of the outside of the wallpaper image is missing - probably something to do with allowing for overscan. I'm not sure how many pixels are missing and whether or not it depends on whether you set the TViX to display 720p or 1080p/i. But my estimation is that the frame is about 20 pixels deep and wide.
It may be worth building a fake wallpaper with a multicoloured frame to test this out. An outside band of light grey pixels 5 deep and wide, another 5 pixels inside that dark grey, next 5 pixels green, next 5 pixels red, next 5 blue. You should then be able to judge how many pixels are not displayed.
EDIT. You should also check that your screen is not in some sort of zoom mode, but whatever, what I said before still applies.

@TurningFrench : I think there is a misunderstanding. The wallpaper fits perfectly on my TviX or LCD-TV Screen. I only mean that my used resized image for the wallpaper does not fit properly. Attached original image which I used for creating the wallpaper....

I wish that I had Photoshop so that I could do some of this.
I do have a question though, I know this has been covered some, but how do you place alot of these in the Tvix? I know how to attach these to file folders, but aren't alot of these made to go in the main menu page to use in place of the original ones that come with the firmware?

You could also use the free open source software The Gimp.

Gimp has support for Photoshop .psd files, layers and much more functions that Photoshop also have. Gimp is not quite as good as Photoshop but it became better and better with further version updates...
For starting with image manipulation it is an alternative to Photoshop if you don't have the money to buy Photoshop. At the moment I don't have Photoshop installed on this machine so I used Gimp for creating the above attached Tvix wallpapers too.
Your second question: I have connected my TviX via Ethernet-Lan to a NAS device where I store my movies, photos and music. I have placed the icons and wallpapers on the NAS in the appropriate directory of the movie/series or however.

Its not just enough to resize the image you have to reposition it as well, the space between the frames is not 720px high - its about 500px give or take, so you have to ctop off unwated space top and bottom to make it fit, or resixe the 1280x720, and drag up or down to where you think it looks good,

For the wallpapers you need to allow for overscan on the TV, not all of the wallpaper will be seen,
Ive higlighted with blue bars on the jericho wallpaper what will be cut of

Also - just in case you didn't notice, your wallpapers have been resized on you, their currently at 1024 x 576px - it's photobucket that does this.
To remedy, in the upload box change the "reduce size" option to 1 Mb file size, and it wont do it again.

they do sort of, i'm slowly going through and reskinning some of the icons, backdrops and so on, it's a work in progress, but eventually yeah they will match the icons

I noticed that photobucket was doing something to them, I shall re-upload them all later today, edit my existing posts and replace with a single post containing all my images.
Although, I must admit that I completely new to Photoshop and this is the first I have ever done anything in it. As such, I'm affraid I do not understand what you mean with the blue bars on the wallpapers. If you could possibly give me a few pointers I shall do my best to fix the issue.
Again, many thanks for the original template files you uploaded which I have used for all my images.

compare the 2 images - on the second image, i've higlighted in blue the parts of the wall paper that will get cut off when viewed on the tv.
for example - the jerico text if placed to close to the right hand side, and as a result half of the "O" get cut off, try to avoid placing content in the Blue zone

Ah ok thank you for the feedack. I thought it was a technical thing I had to do in Photoshop, I'm right at the limits of my first project knowledge level as it is!
Keeping edges clear of text/images I want visible is something even I can manage :)

OK, so here is a post with all of the wallpapers I have done so far.
I might add one or two to it which I will put in this post, but not many as I have covered most of what I have on my Tvix currently. I shall go bak and remove links to older versions in my previous posts to avoid any confusion in the future.
I have also tweaked a few so that hopefully no text is obscured any more when displayed on the TV.

Is it just wallpapers you are after or icons aswell?
Seeing that list makes me realise some series I really should have got into myself. Maybe I will hunt around for some of them. Have you used any of the ones I have uploaded so far? It would be nice if anyone uses them to say thanks just so I know the work wasn't for nothing :)

I agree, I too like the minimal look sometimes. I'll hunt around for some nice images which allow me to improve upon what I have done and hopefully produce some minimalistic versions.
Depending on time I would like to try to produce some custom images for each episode of specific series.

Here is a new audio skin for the tvix to replace the default audio screen.
please note that you can only apply it if your running the badip firmware

Hi,
The default icons are located in /mnt/jffs2_apps/tvix/gui/bitmaps, and it's only a matter of overwriting the respective images there.
I plan to continue embedding more graphics in my badeip firmware, so contributions are more than welcome.

Hi Guys, I am new here and from Germany, so my english ist not perfekt. But i have to say wow.....great work here in this thread. Do you have more of your Episode-Icons? Much Seasons are going till 26 or something. And the Heroes Seasons til 3 or 4? I know it is much work an i would it self but i am not good at Photoshop. ;)

I am using the kidsglobe from Kanariepiet right now ( thx for the work kanariepiet) but he is using a different font and color.

got the icons to work with my tvix m 7000 but all around the icons is a red colur ugly as hell only with upfolders i get no red colur
all the icons look great, thanks alot, they really make the interface look alot nicer

I'm still around dont worry, but my work shedule has been quite hectic of late, not leaving much spare time.
I have however been working towards a new skin for the tvix gui, some of which badeip has already integrated into his firmware

Only 1 request - Any chance of Dr Who Icons as i have the whole new Versions of Doctor Who as my 9 yr old son just loves it...

i think i may know what the problem is.
with my icons i did not set a transparency alpha channel, as i did not think it necessary.
I have a felling that you TV is picking it up and displaying it as the red color.
This can be fixed in photoshop - do you have a copy, or maybe gimp
if so
create a new backround layer, set the layer color to #c8c8c8
then set the file format from RGB to indexed
This will set a transparency alpha channel that the tvix can output to your tv without the redness

did you have any style in mind and if so what format would you like them in
ie main folder then season 1-season 2 etc
and yeah i use photoshop cs3 to create the icons

Eonnemisis - many thanks for getting back to me - For Format, like you said a main Dr Who folder and then inside Series 1,2,3,4,5(in readiness).
As far as style any would be appreciated but my favourite out of the ones ive already downloaded are the round shaped ones with blue background and metal on outer (as per your post on page 4 with the Camera)..
Whatever you could post would be truly appreciated...

photobucket is not a so good idea, cause bandwidth exceeded for not pro members very fast and no one can see the pics anymore, please take your old hoster, that was a good one :)

to my knowledge so far this is the only place people are working on icons and wallpapers for the tvix.
I started producing content for exactly that reason, - no one else seems do be doing it.
As for embedded works - only my default system icons have been included, most of which have never been posted here, for wallpapers and category icons, you have to add them manually.

quite frankly i never expected my work to be so popular, so i never considered maxing out the 25gig in photobucket. (nearly 2 million views this month) My account usage will be reset on the 11th of october at which time the work will be viewable again.
In the meantime i will look at finding other hosters, so if anyone can recomed?
Maybe you can think to upload a zip file with all wallpapers, it would be greatly appreciated :) You could use Mediafire ( http://www.mediafire.com/ ) that should allow more freedom and speed against Rapidshare or other file host sites.
On one of the first sites, there are Icons for Seasons until 9. Is there a Chance to get this Icons for 10 an 11? There are Shows with more then 9 Seasons (Married with Children, Stargate SG1 or M*A*S*H).

I can't seem to find info on opentvix.com either. What am I doing wrong here? Can someone direct me to an url with a guide, since i can't seem to find it.
Long story short, i want eonnemisis's background image (this thread, page 16) on my tvix.. and the music 'jukebox' change.

What version of badeip's firmware did you download?
as only some of my work has been included.
The backgound on page 16 is at this stage concept only, i havent finished all the files to make it work yet, as for the juke box it should apear when you play an audio file. if not let me know an i'll walk you through the install
