Hi,

Does anybody know if i can access a ext. usb-hdd plugged in the n299.

Is it possible to read/write like it is an internal? (nfs, etc.).

Ok. Find it by myself :D

USB drives plugged into the N299 are also visible in a "usbhdd" shared folder, with one subdirectory per drive. The subdirectories have the standard Linux "sda1" and "sdb1" sorts of names.

Another Question:

Is there any change for a firmwareupdate, which allows the n299 to spindown the internal drive speed?

thx

Not as yet, both Thecus forum and Thecus.care have threads complaining about this. It may come later but am not sure if they have stripped out to much to re-enable at the price they are offering.

I use mine solely as an overflow to one of my QNAP TS-209's which are in themselves offsite backup for my Thecus 5200. The N299 plus a 1TB drive with a harvested 500Gb was marginally more expensive (around £20) than buying a USB 1TB and a USB Case for the 500Gb.
