The process to setup channels is not really difficult but there's a procedure
that can avoid some frustrations for new customers. here it is.

First of all, forget the manual.
This is how you setup the channels!!

Quick info on what we will do.
First time you connect the DP-558, run through Quick Setup, initialize the
HDD and scan for the channels. Right after that, you should assign the EPG
ID's to each channel. When doing so, the names of the channels will be
listed in the Channel Manager when arranging the channels and you can
use Record functions using the EPG which is impossible if you don't assign
the channel ID's.

Step 1: Quick Setup + HDD Initialize + Scan Auto Channels

Step 2: Go to each channel in normal TV mode, and click on "LIST",
followed by "ENTER", this is how you assign an EGP ID to the channel.
Note that you need to know which channel you are looking at when clicking
on the LIST button. (CNN, MTV etc...)

Go the Country of the Channel (Like BBC = UK and CNN = US) and select
the channel you where looking at when pressing the LIST/ENTER. Confirm
the ID and repeat this step for every channel untill finish.

Here's the good part, these Channels which you connect with an ID are auto
added to your Favorites.

Step 3: After all channels have been assigned, go to Advanced
Setup (SETUP on remote) and walk through the advanced setup. Especially
pass by the Channel Manager where you will see channels listed like:

1 - VTM
2 - VRT
3 - CNN

instead of

CH1
CH2
CH3

Arrange the channels list as you wish by pressing Enter on a channel and
move it up or down. Done, you now can succesfully use the EPG with the
Channel ID's correctly added to the channels.

Hey,

Very good tip, this one, but..
I made a mistake and assigned the wrong EPG ID on a
channel. I could not find a way to re-assign the channel.
Do you know how?

Kees.

HI,

- Press setup on remote, manage channels, choose channel, press Delete icon on remote.
- Select Scan channels, this will re-add the channel you deleted
- Press LIST to remap the EPG id.

Hi,
My 558 is reported as being in the mail on route to me :)

So I was just thinking... If you have a digital TV decoder connected by scart, how do you set channels? It would be nice to be able to set a bunch of channels on scart if you get my drift.

If that's not possible, can I still use EPG and change the channel to SCART or something?

Johan

1.Timed recording not working from SCART at all (yet) - you have to press REC button manually to start recording from external source (SCART).

2.There is no 'connection' between EPG and SCART input .

3.There is no way to change chanel on external "box" from DP-558 (I suggested to KiSS to use/have IR learning transmitter on DP-558 over a year ago , but they choose to ignore my suggestion :( )

So , the 1 should be "fixed" in next firmware according to KiSS at end of November .

I warned people here not to buy DP-558 just yet , wait until KiSS releases at least most of the things they promised in manual and fixes most obiouse and annoying bugs but it seems that some people have to rush for some reason ;)

Tip 1 is to turn the 558 off with the button the first time after enabling the web scheduling. It seems the player has to reboot after the function is turned on.

Tip 2 is to check if the normal EPG/Channel guide works from the 558. If it does, your network setup is OK! Do not to change anything in your network setup, neither in the 558 or in your router/gateway/firewall or anything else.

There is no need to open ports or anything else, since the Web Scheduling function just tells your 558 to connect to the EPG server every 15 minutes.

Tip 3 you can press the "Store" button on the remote control to force your 558 to connect to the EPG server and download your latest schedule.

When I press on LIST, I only get a message on my screen:
"Play disc No disc present"
??? What do I do wrong?

Solved it! I had to press the button multiple times!

hmm first time I set up my original 558, I had no problems..

this time...

all the channels are listed in the epg in the original order they had after the initial scan/search..

Ive tried, turning off the kiss etc, but it seems impossible to make it 'eat' the sorted list :?

ok figured out the favourite sorting.. not really the most userfriendly system.. moving channels past page breaks is hell
