I have come to the decision to get an Istar Mini HD for my new HD tv, but I will obviously need some storage for the HD files to play off, as my PC is upstairs.

Obviously the MyBook is a lot cheaper than the Netgear, but are they similar in performance. The netgear does torrents which would be ideal, but I am looking a cheapness first really.

Any recommendations, or would i be better with a SATA drive (can you get an external SATA drive??)

Thanks

iSTAR has an external SATA drive that can be used with the iSTAR but you can get others as well, also USB. WD mybooks are great but not always working perfectly with the players (slow loading eyc...) Advantage of the external disk is you can easily walk around with it.

DUO would need network and you cannot walk around with it. The obvious advantages apply where you have loads of extras for which you no longer need a PC (like torrents etc). There are others like Synology, QNAP, Thecus, Conceptronic, Icy Box (arranged by price in that order) you could consider but Infrant has the best Quality and is the most expensive one in the list of dual NAS...

It's a choice...
You can also get both :-)

well just now i am looking at cost more than usability. the esata thing with the istar isn't very pretty though, and I would like to not have to transfer all my data onto it before watching the tv, as I have heard this can take a while over wireless connection (it would only be hardwired from my router)

You can attach the external drive to PC just like you would do with the WD...
I don't see the difference between both except one is more stylish than the other... (don't foorget to get the power supply as well, it's optional)
