My custom firmware for the [TViX] (http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/) 6500 media player, based on the official 1.2.52 version by [Dvico] (http://www.dvico.com/) inc.
1.2.52 is one of the versions which are language locked (http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/boards/PressRelease.aspx?act=RD&itemid=452)for Korean units, but it should now be possible to remedy that by disabling Korean menus from the web configuration GUI.
Eonnemisis has created some excellent icons, some of which I have included in this release. See this (http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=14798) thread for other examples.

As always, my firmware is available on: www.binary-art.net

For answers to common questions, see my [Firmware FAQ] (http://www.binary-art.net/?page_id=337)

Contents:

- There is one share called “root” which exports the entire TViX filesystem, in addition to the auto-mounted tvixhd1 share.
httpd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Http)
- the web pages displays kernel- and process information, and lets you configure video, network and disable Korean language.
Enhanced Ctorrent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ctorrent)
NTP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol)
- configured to syncronize the clock at startup to remedy the hardware clock issue

Halleluia...
Now anyone with the korean language fix can test if it works would be great.
After that, fall on your knees and praise badeip... :-)

Badeip will correct me if necessary, but as far as the Korean Language Fix goes, he is probably using the method suggested by KORus over at the OpenTViX forum (http://forum.opentvix.com/), where he first mentioned the method in a forum post (http://forum.opentvix.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=145&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10) - very simple and a good bit of lateral thinking on the part of KORus.

By all means, we should take our hats off to badeip, but KORus should get a nod of acknowledgemnt as well.

Indeed.

KORus should have been mentioned in post. I'll update it accordingly
I have gotten some indications that it does not work though.

Wel, the ones providing the solution matters most to customers... :-)
Prevents them from hacking into their boxes and break it completely...

I installed the firmware yesterday, (mainly out of curiosity) and i must say that i love it, in general it really opens the unit up, for example,
I figured out that when browsing files via samba on the pc, you can transfer files from the internal HDD to and external usb HDD, couldnt do that before.

The only thing that i didn't like what that when on the main boot screen Hdtv is grey out and you can't activate the dtv funtions or configs.
Workaround - cold boot strait to dtv by pressing the tv button on the remote.

Just wondering if anyone else was having this problem

once again LOVE IT.

Hi,

Glad you like it!

The only reported reported problem with badeip 1.2.52 is with DTV, but I don't own an adapter, so figuring out the cause of the problem is not trivial.
I hope someone can dump information from the serial console with both a badeip- and standard firmware, so that I can analyze the difference.
See here http://www.wahlman.no/?p=458 for information about how set up serial access.

Dear Badeip,

I tried ur FW, install went well. I want to mount the samba shares so i can acces dvico frommy pc, laptop and xbmc. The only share i can mount is the "root" on all other shares video, audio etc it says "the specified network map is assigned to an other user with a different password" free translated from dutch. This is in vista ( did the service change) in XP is just says the server is not available.

Am i doing something wrong here. Do i need to activate something.

An other thing is there a guide for what to expect and use this FW for NOOBS like me ;). I was expecting to see major changes in the startup menu like apps added and stuff. but it seems the only thing i got figured out is the web GUI.

This is not a flame to you and youre firmware, i just want to try to understand and use the extra's you have brougt in youre firmware.

One other question. Can i add extra items in the startupmenu and change there icons?

Hope you can help me with the samba part as i promised the kids they would be able to watch the dvd's from there xbmc in their bedrooms that are stored on the tvico.

Hi,

Some of your questions are answered in my firmware FAQ: http://www.binary-art.net/?page_id=337

Dear Badeip,

..
the specified network map is assigned to an other user with a different password" free translated from dutch. This is in vista
...

"Vista’s default security policy is to only use NTLMv2 authentication which Samba does not yet support.
See http://www.builderau.com.au/blogs/codemonkeybusiness/viewblogpost.htm?p=339270746
for a solution to this problem."
A user with a similar problem found a solution. See this thread: http://www.binary-art.net/?p=490

An other thing is there a guide for what to expect and use this FW for NOOBS like me ;). I was expecting to see major changes in the startup menu like apps added and stuff. but it seems the only thing i got figured out is the web GUI.

See the FAQ mentioned above.
The release notes mentions all my additions, but most of these are only available from ssh. Here are an example of some of the additional utilities: http://www.binary-art.net/?p=490

This is not a flame to you and youre firmware, i just want to try to understand and use the extra's you have brougt in youre firmware.

There is not much from a look & feel perspective yet (except the icons by eonnemisis), but it is possible to use the TViX as 'PC server' with the respective modifications: log in from remote, download torrents directly to the tvix, browse webpages, mount the entire filesystem, etc..

One other question. Can i add extra items in the startupmenu and change there icons?

Yes, all the default graphics can be changed if you use this firmware.
See http://www.binary-art.net/?p=235 for more information.

This is a great update, some of these features that Badeip has added are exactly the sort of 'extras' that I was hoping for.

The ability to mount 'properly' to the TVIX to stream from it is great - adds NAS features (also, as I have two of the boxes, I can spread my media over both and not worry about syncing them ...)

Also the httpd daemon I was hoping for (but without buying an NMT, didnt think could ever get), but just for a small static website - perfect, can have a webprescence without the power & cpu hog of a full pc.

Why not see if we can get DVICO to take these on-board to add them to the official firmwareas 'hidden value' for the technical users. Should be a no-brainer for them, especially as all the hard work has already been done by Badeip ..

Better still would be to persuade Dvico to properly open up their firmware so that people like Badeip do not have to struggle so much to be able to add value to the box. Can we see this ever happening? ..... not.

Hi
I installed your firmware "BadEIP_M-6×00_1.3.55-2" to my korean tvix.

However I still can not change the language to English.

Also when I used to press and hold the volume down button it used go all the down by just holding it, but now I have to press one by one to get it all the way down to mute.

Everything else works fine

Thanks

Murat1903,

I do not have a Korean TViX myself so I am dependent on reliable feedback of my fixes before I release.
Different testers told me that the change I included in this firmware unlocked other languages again, but that does not seem to be the case.
Does changing language from the web interface have any effect for you, or are the menus identical after booting?

The non-repeat issue is documented in the known issues in my FAQ (http://www.binary-art.net/?page_id=337)
I also wrote a post here, explaining why it happens, and how to get the original behavior:

Hi all,

This firmware 1.3.52-2 seems to be the best one I've ever tested, graphic and performance seems very good except for a small problem.

When I go uplfolder from anyfolder appears a strange image in the background

Here are some photos to ilustrate:

this is normal:

[IMG:150:128:2a7101dee0]http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/9007/07112008117it0.th.jpg[/img:2a7101dee0] (http://img224.imageshack.us/my.php?image=07112008117it0.jpg)[IMG:1:1:2a7101dee0]http://img224.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif[/img:2a7101dee0] (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)

this is after going to a folder and get back to the cliking in upfolder

[IMG:150:128:2a7101dee0]http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6388/07112008118fg5.th.jpg[/img:2a7101dee0] (http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=07112008118fg5.jpg)[IMG:1:1:2a7101dee0]http://img411.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif[/img:2a7101dee0] (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)

this is the problem closer:

[IMG:150:128:2a7101dee0]http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/6844/07112008119vz7.th.jpg[/img:2a7101dee0] (http://img224.imageshack.us/my.php?image=07112008119vz7.jpg)[IMG:1:1:2a7101dee0]http://img224.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif[/img:2a7101dee0] (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)

I've tryed going trought ftp in the tvix system files and deleting this image that seems to be the hd switch image, but if I do so the image will be swaped for the network switch image.

Help ?

Hi,

It might be due to increased image size (compared to the original).
Do you see this problem with other firmwares, and do you have similar graphics corruption issues when turning off icon mode?

It's not an Opentvix problem, can happen in the original FW as well.
