View Full Version : update failed. error code -15
i get error code -15 when i try to update to the new firmware.
never had that problem with a FW b4.
I current run the modded Fw called 'world in red' on a original 508
I have downloaded the FW from kiss twice and burned it with nero 5.5 on a RW cd just like i've done with all the other FW's
help pls -what does error 15 mean??
This error means the CD-ROM is burned wrong.
-11 error means bad burn
-15 means error on disc.
You need to burn it with the following options:
Disc At Once (not track at onec!!)
and close the session dis (nor further writing possible)
If it still does not work with the above options, let me know.
You can try another firmware with the same way of burning and see if it works correctly.
That would be it.

Burn an install another FW 2.7.4 tiny for example, and after install the 2.8.0

Ions from France
Sorry for my english
OK guys, error -15 is typically a problem that is easily solved. Make sure to change the md5 sum in layout.txt to the md5 sum for the new romfs.bin file. I got an error -15, but the problem went away as soon as I started generating new md5 sums for the romfs.bin file. Do a search for layout.txt at gooddvdstuff.com for more info.
There is no need to use the 2.7.4 ISO image, and apparently, doing so results in some garbage being displayed in one of the menus.

Try with another cd media, I had the same problem with the first cdrw I often used to upgrade. If you have a little scratch on it that's enougth to have -11 or -15 errors...

Or a search on MpegPlayer.
We have it listed somewhere... (checking...)

hmm
tried to redownload the FW (from kiss site)
burned it on a normal cd - no RW
also burned 2.7.6 on a normal cd
burned both as disk-at-once and finished the disc
first 'upgraded' to the original 2.7.6 - no problemo
then tried to update to .8.0 - no go. still same error
dont think its a cd problem.
and the checksum thing - i dont even have a clue on what you are talking about
Error Code - 12 = Flash rom is fried
The source for this, a developer @ Kiss told me so, and I had to
send my kiss in for repairs.
Let's make a list of error codes (if its not allready done)

Hey Belle...
There's a little file in the firmware that checks the romfs.bin file in the firmware before installing it. The romfs file has a unique id based on it's size and content for example ( called checksum).
If you burn the iso to disc, there might be a slight change in the cd caused by your computer, burner or media used, a lossed bit or so in the image...
Before installing, the firmware checks the checksum number above against one it creates on the fly with the burned disc before installing.
Now if anything changed (a lossed bit or so) the update will fail and you will get an error message like -15 or -12.
Got any friend with a burner or did you try that yet?
Else, you might want to give KiSS Support a shot at it...
