Hello,

today i became my Kiss DP-558 Player.
After i updated the Firmware i've tried to record some TV Shows.
But if i try later to play the record it doesn't work ?
I have also no info how long the record is ??

If i press record on my remote then the record symbol appears on the screen for 10 seconds..but then it disappear..is this normal ?
If i press STOP later no message or symbol appears on screen ...strange...

Hope anyone can help me with this...

I live in Germany and use PAL.

Did you pressed 'eject'-'back'-6-7-8 on the remote and waited for 60 secs before the firmware upgrade?
maybe that's the problem.

Well if you get the message hdd not ready it means that you did not format the hdd during the full firmware upgrade. This option is part of the process, you should go through with it.

Hi i already formatted my HDD..

After the reset the HD-time-left had been replaced with 'HD not setup' or something, then I did a format

This happens if i try to record some shows:

If record then wait a while then stop and go to the recorded video listing there are some .vob files there but they seem all zero-length.
There is also a 'timeshift.vob' - zero length.

I can copy movies from my pc to my kiss HDD this work, but no TV recording.

Hopy anyone can help me

Did you try a reformat?

Now it works :-)

I resetted the Player and waited 2 Minutes before i installed the new FW and now it works ....so i thought it was my fault...

Well I have the same problem.
I recieved the player with FW 1.0.5 but couldn't record anything (empty .vob and a timeshift.vob). I also tried reinstalling FW (with complete reset/reformat, waiting and all) however still no result. Any tip, did you do something different?

Is there also a way to get rid of EPG IDs, since they still seem to be present (marked with a star)after deleting all stations and readding.

Hi,

try to use the 1.07 FW.

eject-back-6-7-8 and then wait 2 Minutes before you switch off the player.

Hope it works...do you tried to copy data from the PC to the DP-558 ?

Hi,

my record didn't work since today :-(

So i think my Player is damaged i will send it back.

My DP-558 won't record anything either.
I mailed to the hotline about it, still waiting for answer from them.

Since a lot of us seems to have this problem, i really don't think the player is broken. I will try to make it work today. How fast do i have to return the player if a don't get it to work?

Edit: Just found out that if a press record nothing much happens, if i then press stop and quickly press setup, the following text appears: "Record could not start. Internal error." Sp maybe the player is broken after all....

Is there also a way to get rid of EPG IDs, since they still seem to be present (marked with a star)after deleting all stations and readding.

What's wrong with going to the EPG screen->List favorites, selecting a channel and pressing Delete from favorites ?? not rocket science.

Well I tried different setups, checked all cables (I use a SCART connection), reinstalled everything again and...... still nothing.
Copying files to hdd works (and playing to) so hdd is OK, however I cannot get the recording to work. I can find the same message as NMA "could not start recording, internal error."
Anyone have an idea?

Hi oever...

The only time we see this problem is really when the setup for 1.0.5 has
not been done correctly... so once more... :-)
Humor me and follow this setup schedule to the point.

- Power on the player, press EJECT - Return 6 - 7 - 8 and WAIT for 2 minutes. (You will not see anything happenning)
- Insert the Firmware CD and power down the player.
- Power On the player and flash the firmware.
- Power down the player. Power it on again.
- Follow the Quick Setup and REFORMAT the HDD during Quick
Setup. Also rescan the channels and assign EPG id to at leased 1 channel.
Record from that channel as a test after you have REBOOTED the player.

Regards
Hi-Jack

Same thing here. Got my DP-558 on Saturday. It came with FW 1.0.5 and also does no recordings. Copying files to hdd via PC-Link works. I tried upgrading to 1.0.7 and downgrading to 1.0.5. And yes: I tried the EJECT-RETURN-6-7-8 procedure several times. As Kiss states on the firmware page: If you see the message "Harddisk not setup" on the setup-page you got the combination of keys right and you can insert the FW CD and power cycle to begin the upgrade.
BTW: I think it´s normal that the favorites don't go away even after a "full upgrade" / "reset to factory default" because they seem to be stored on the EPG-Webserver along with your player-ID and not on the player. But of course the link to the channel is lost so you have to link EPG-ID to every channel again.

I will try to email Kiss. But if this thing is not resolved until end of the week there is one more player which is going to be returned with money back.

Other issues: My player hangs rather often. The KML-Browser has problems with german "umlauts" in the EPG.

I've done that about 10 times, at least and theres no way i could have done it wring every time. The silly thing is that i didn't try if record worked before upgrading to 1.0.7.

This player is going back to where it came from and i sure hope the new one i get do work.

From the top,
I got the player with FW 1.0.5. it didn't record, so I followed the procedure as discriped above and reinstalled it, still nothing. I upgraded to 1.0.7. nothing , downgraded same result upgraded with still no result. To humour you did it again and.......still nothing. So I guess it's going back unless KISS responds soon with a solution or remark what I do wrong (if anything).

Thanks for this post. My Kiss player arrived today with everything working perfectly until I came to record. I get the same internal error.
Back it goes!

Well before you return it check everything proparly (cables, connection, hdd, newest FW,etc)

BTW KISS responded within a day. If you do have a problem and try to contact them, you need to be as specific as you can. Tell them what's wrong, how you connected it and what you have tried sofar to solve it.

In my case they just asked if I had upgraded to FW 1.0.7. and I already had written that I have done that. Writing that mail seems to have been a complete waste of time.
Apparently there is a truckload of players with poor QA-Testing delivered to customers at the moment. So I think I'd better return it rather quick instead of opting for an exchange player which has probably the same problem again.
