View Full Version : DTS audio - what am I doing wrong?

Hi all,
Recently I got few DTS audio files, from concert. They have .wav extensions, when burned to CD, they play perfectly in Pioneer DVD (I have amp capable of handling this). However, when I copy those files into Tvix (6500), I hear only noise. I checked setup, but there is nothing really there. When I play movie with DTS, it plays without problems. Connection to amp is via HDMI, checked also coax - no go.
Anyone could help me figure out what is wrong?

thanks,
Chris

Well, I didn't expected this kind of solution, however it WORKS!
Thanks a lot.

Are there more issues related to that volume setting ?

There aren't more issues related to that volume setting; if you have a receiever just leave it on 25. (this is cleary stated in the manual).

The Tvix is actually a pretty powerful machine when it comes to playing music files. (I use it more for music than movies). A decent set of speakers can also go a long way! (I'm not talking about the mini speaker costco special)
You will notice the difference trust me.

Mp3 playing is screwed up right now; but you shouldn't use the machine to play these types of files anyways because of the sound quality usually stinks (think of recording a cd to an audio cassette- plus why would you spend $500 on a machine to play mp3 anyways?). I would recommend that you stick to Flac and Wav files.

With DTS wav files make sure that the tracks are split to individual tracks; because if there is one long track the machine will start to make a skipping noise on the file after 7-8 minutes. (you can use a program called cue splitter).

Another great program that is free is called DMP power amp. It easily converts your cd into flac format. I noticed that the machine has some problems playing flac files that are recorded in 96khz (vinyl rips). Just convert the files to wav and they play fine. You then can decide which sounds better vinyl or CD.

Enjoy!

Weird, that is not mentioned in my manual ... my manual hardly mentions anything.

They do indeed appear to have released a revised manual even though the official site appears not to show this.

Grab the new manual HERE (ftp://ftp.dvico.com/Manual/TViX/M6500/TViX_M6500_English.pdf)

...and check page 28

If you can't get into the TViX site, you can also get it from HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/211470054/TViX_M6500_English.pdf)

apologies to anyone that has downloaded my backup copy of the manual recently. As soon as I can get back into rapidshare, I'll add the new manual.
Wow, that is a lot bigger than my manual, thanks.

Maybe you were only sent the Quickguide instead of the original full manual (http://rapidshare.com/files/161993940/TViX_M6500_English.pdf) which is only a few pages shorter than the newer one.

I read this manual and there are some things wrong.
Here are just a few things :

Support browsing by icon mode
Make a empty file named as "icon.tvix" on the folder that you want to browse by icon.

I have a folder filled with JPG files and they play on the tvix.
When I create that icon.tvix in that folder and open that folder, there is only 1 big "up" icon and no JPG files.
When I remove that icon.tvix, the JPG files appear again.
Weird.

If you put a JEPG file named "TViX.jpg" under the folder which you want to change the wallpaper, the wallpaper of the folder will be changed.

When I do that, no wallpaper shows up.
(I used a resolution lower that 1280*720)

When you press the PHOTO button on the remote control, only the contents available on the PHOTO folder
of TVIX HD will be displayed.
It applies only to the active partition(first partition) if you have more than one partition.
<NOTE>
You can set the slideshow time interval at the SETUP menu.
You can change the size of the picture with the ZOOM and SCROLL button.

Why does my ZOOM button not work in JPG view then ?

Note.
Security wise, this manual is not a great one either.
If you do what it states, you open the Guest account and disable the firewall, which are both not smart if you don't exactly know what you're doing.

The CD ripper that I use is RipStation Micro (http://www.ripstation.net/rsmicro.html), free for consumer use. It auto fetches cover art and provides total flexibility as to how you want to set out and name ripped tracks. It rips to wav, mp3, wma and flac - one of these, several or all of these at the same time, if that's what you'd like. Quick and simple to use, great rips. Check it out.

Hi, I've been busy finalising setup of my newly built RAID5 NAS. I'll answer a couple of your questions and then get back with more answers. Sorry for the delay in replying.

I don't use TViX for photos so can't really be sure, but I think that function is for static icons for one movie per folder, or perhaps an album cover (all assuming that you have a ONE film, album per flder setup.

I think what you were expecting was THUMBNAILS, which TViX doesn't support.

The resolution MUST be 1280x720. Try this one (made with TViXIE and my customised template) (http://rapidshare.com/files/211833502/TViX.jpg)
