View Full Version : Firmware WITH FTP discussion thread!!
Hi all,
After we announced the latest news on MPC News Forums,
http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2432#16777
let's discuss the new FW release in this thread... :-)
Kind regards
Jack
Reading the title of the thread... I was a bit surprised...
And reading one more time the thread about next FW... well... I am very happy to see we will at last be able to download movies to the PC (my HDD is nearly full)
But... does it mean they forget HTTP ? is it postponed to no date ? will FTP offer something more than PUT/GET files ?
Will there be a user/pass for FTP? Or just anonymous ?
How many simultaneous connections are possible ?
Limited to specific IP ? Or generic ?
Shared only /HDD or / allowing access to non-hd related stuff ?
Cheers
// FCLage
Will download be blocked will recording or the FTP server ? Or will it make troubles in recording ?
With Darcula's FW, I wasn't able to download a file while viewing a already recorded movie...
Will the download speed good enough ?
Well, i am most certain we should not expect a wonderFTP version.
You will be able most likely to transfer files from and to the HDD and be
able to use a password/user for the connection.
I don't think there's any way to improve speed (chip bandwidth)
I don't think it will transfer bigger files then current FTP
FTP should be able to use the complete HDD (not just hdd folder)
Many things have to be seen after the FTP.
FW development is still in progress and this version is planned for release
next week. What will be in it for FTP will be known then, and not before. FTP
is confirmed but i assume myself, it will have the same limitations as ours.
Further,
It does not move HTTP of the schedule.
KiSS is coming towards it's customers that wanted FTP and will continue
working on a more perfect solution within the HTTP project. In how far this
FTP will be better then the current version from the community is unknown.
Mysels, i expect the same functionality...
Let's have them surprise us :-)
A user on the danish Forum Recordere.dk, got a reply from Kiss, stating that they are working on improving the ftp transfer speed.
No details about what we can expect, though.
(I'm not expecting revolutions... rather some optimizings/tuning)
Actually, I think most of us don't care of speed as mush as they care about ability to download a whole file (more than 4gb)...
So, according to latest post form Hi-Jack... I am afraid we will have to wait for HTTP to see that feature
Actually a Kiss emplyee (Thomas) tells that they dropped the FTP solution and work on a HTTP instead.
The information is from Recordere.dk
:?
Well trust me...
We have our ways...
Things change :-)
FTP will be in the next FW to bypass the time HTTP is ready...
Well trust me......
Well I trust you but I don't trust Kiss anymore.

We will soon come with a new firmware update on this page.
The new firmware release is expected to contain the following improvements: *Simple file access to saved recordings from a PC via http.
I don't care if it's FTP or HTTP. I just wan't to transfer my recordings (also recordings over 2GB) to a PC acc. the promises from Kiss. Instead I hear these big plans for the future with schedule recordings by http and so on.
The DP-558 was nearly 1 year delayed. The excuse was it just had to be perfekt. Try to take a look on the Bug tracker and say the word perfect.
Now they promise a lot of bugfixes will be fixed in 2-3 weeks acc. your first post concerning FW for DP-558.
First things First!
3 firmware releases are planned at this moment
- 1st release is planned for this week !
- 2nd release is planned for around 1st of November
- 3rd release is planned for around the middle of November
Why should we believe they are able to do it? If it's so easy why in hell haven't they done it before they starting ship the product?
I fear they simply aren't competent enough to there job.
I hope Kiss will surprise me in mid november, and realease a FW with some BIG improvements othervise I return my DP-558 .
