View Full Version : HDX UPdate with DTS downmix released
Hi all,
A quick note that HDX has just uploaded the firmware including DTS support downmix. It should come available on their site soon but from the player, updates should be possible directly from the setup pages...
HDX came true with the DTS...
Change list will be posted in a minute...

Thanks for the heads up, HJ!
Internal update method worked flawlessly, and the flash FW (for backup) downloaded too!
Well done, HDX!

It's the real deal and DTS options are present in the setup menu ;)
It would have been awesome news months ago when I cared, but now that I have a system that decodes DTS I don't care about DTS downmix.
Great news for other that don't have a dts decode though :)

Excellent news indeed, the long so waited.
I think we are as thrilled as HDX itself is, if you have read their news topic at hdx1080.com :D
Internal update went flawless here BTW.
The downmix works as tested via HDMI to the TV speakers and also from the TV to the amplifier as stereo.
But yeah true DTS sounds so much better with the amplifier.
Though it will break /the silence/ for allot of users without DTS amplfiers out there.

I agree that there is no substitute for a real DTS setup. But for a 'portable' machine, it's a real bonus to be able to take the player to a friend who doesn't have DTS capability and still be able to get sound from nonDTS-capable systems.

I wish Elektron had fulfilled their promise to customers like HDX and released DTS downmix support for their current line of NMT models instead of announcing a new NMT model with the DTS support they promised would be released Q1 for their EHP-606.

guys, how is the new FW working out for you?
i've got the following issues raised with HDX:
I cant seem to play smoothly any slightly higher bitrate HD movie. Once the bitrate jumps a bit, the player seem to drop frame, and then goes in to slow breaky playback. When monitoring on the Info menu, the video bitrate disappears, the audio (usualy 1.5mb DTS) remains there, but you cant hear it.
weird, coz i have downgraded to the previous again just to check its not the network etc. and those files play just fine.
Will try to upgrade using USB this time, as this happened to help before, if not, will try disablibling DTS downsampling, and otherwise, revert back to old FW and annoying DTS to AC3 reencoding
SLIGHTLY ANNOYING
got the same problem, MKV files that ran smoothly with previous FW, now stutter sometimes (I need to jump back and forth or pause). it's a buffering issue?

Did you mean with networkstreaming?
I had some problems with the networkperformance (slow FTP).
After I set the IP to static instead of DHCP, the performance was back.
Not sure if this is helpfull and probably is because how my network is build.
I got a rather unusual setup where the HDX is wired to an active bridged WiFi accesspoint, which then connects to my main Accesspoint over WiFi.
But it is worth a try if you are experiencing networkproblems.
no i have a static ip.
and as i said, it worked well with the former FW.

Is it worth waiting for another update of update then?
Is it OK to install new firmware skipping two previous versions, or should they be installed one after other in chronological order?
It would also be interesting to know if anyone tried to compare performance of the firmware with DTS for PopCorn against the recent HDX firmware both running on HDX1000.

good point,
i will try downgrading to a stable version (2 FW before) and then go one by one up. Lets see if that helps.
And the popcorn comparison would be well appreciated.
my problem is i dont use HDD, so its a bit tough to test popcorn one.

So found two problems after using it a while.
First is fixed and is because of the firmware update, the second isn't fixed and I am not sure if the firmware update is causing the issue.
1) 1080p/24p Movies did not play anymore.
The screensetting was on "1080p 24Hz" and Framerate Sync on "off".
Setting screensetting on "1080p 23.976" and Framerate Sync on "NTSC/PAL/24p" fixed it. My TV supports 24p, so I guess you have to play with the settings depending on the attached TV.
2) Connecting the HDX as slave drive over USB doesn't get mounted anymore (I am using Ubuntu). After pluging the screen shows a popup: "Alert!!! Removing Hard disk / CD-Rom from NMT"
It then goes into basic menu and nothing happends.
Well not sure if it has to do because of the firmware update. I did allot of alterations on the HDX in the meanwhile and also updated Ubuntu.
I guess I have to do some forumdigging.
I think the DTS downmixing has affected the entire DTS playback.
even when it's off DTS movies (MKV) are stuttering every now and then.
in the old FW this wasn't the case (testing the same movies).
what's more - i have also an iStar mini HD (1.1) which is a inferior piece of hardware in comparison to the HDX, and the FW there doesn't have DTS downmix capabilities - there the same movies do NOT stutter.
MKV movies with AAC or other movies without DTS are playing perfectly.
my conclusion. this is a bug that has to do with DTS (downmixing?)
does somebody work on that in HDX?
You could try this.
Got this off hdx1080.com
Select Maintenance
On remote, press Filemode Button. A popup window appears with "clear cache"
Press enter on remote
what does it do?
are they aware of the problem?
it's for a another problem all together...
but I will try it

Yes, it fixes the issue I had (mounting as USB harddisk)
Thanks a million, Bloodsack!
Now I can some serious filetransfering
but still doesn't fix the DTS movies stuttering....
I test every movie on both machines (istar mini HD with older firmware)
and it works there but stutters on the DTS....
is this a known issue with HDX of the new FW?

No problem :)
On the dts issue I heard a soft re-boot should do the trick. I don't know if that'll work. I've had no problems with my dts files?
well yes it is good for a few minutes (soft reboot)
but then it begins stuttering again.
the stuttering is very light (as though one frame does the damage)
if I skip back 30 secs wait a few seconds an forth 30 secs it also continues playing, also pause of 5 seconds usually does the trick
however it is very anoying to have to do that every 5-10 minutes....
In the meantime I play the DTS stuff on my mini iStar HD 1.1 without issues...

I'm sure hdx/NMT knows about the problem. the funny thing is I haven't had this issue at all? did you upgrade through usb? or hdd?
I always uses usb.
I always use USB also. also this time. does it matter?
