View Full Version : Symbolic link to mp3 file
Hi gurus,
Is it possible to create a symbolic link to a mp3 file on the DP558 kernel? I want to try to create some kind of playlist without using pc-link and also without copying the actual mp3s to a directory. I tried the 'cp -s', but it said 'illegal option'.
On my desktop Linux box I create a symlink with ln -s, maybe that works?
Thanks Spike! I will try as soon as I am at home. I'll let you know.
Yesterday-evening is didn't have (much) time to test very well. I did try ln -s and it works!! Thanks Spike!! The link is also displayed in the audio list when browsing audio on the hdd.
So far so good! But when I tried to play an mp3, my DP558 crashed. I was afraid of that because the last few days I wasn't able to play any mp3 from the hdd any more.... Even a power off/on didn't help anymore.
So I also didn't try to play the link, but I have good hopes that it is possible to play the link also. And when this is possible, it should not be too difficult to create a directory with only links to the music files et voila you have a playlist
But before I can test all this I will first upgrade the firmware to 1.10   . I hope tonight I will have time for this....

Dear Thunderlars,
I do use EzLink!!
But I don't want to turn on my PC every time I want to listen to music....
And another reason: I want my gf to be able to use it too
If my idea works, an exporting function from EzLink to the DP558 hdd would be nice
grtnx
I upgraded to 1.1.0. Works fine :) But off course telnet is not working in this firmware.....
