View Full Version : DviCo M-6500 Update: 1.4.22
DviCo provided another pre release firmware that addresses a few issues people are experiencing. Several relate to the media player itself while others relate to the PVR part. No mentioning of a fix for the copy issues some reported yet but they are still busy researching the problem. It can't hurt to try this release fixes the issue anyway. I'll cross fingers for you...

Note:
Same as recent several previous firmware versions, this version has a bug that users can not copy large size files to TVIX over SAMBA. Dvico recognized the problem and engineers are working on it. We expect it to be fixed on next firmware or one after next.

A bug like in previous release: randomly switch from HDMI to DVI with pink screen.

Still lost some Thai subtitle since 1.4.14, sometime it show one line only sometime it completly gone all lines.Only 1.4.8 work for me. For Thai people, UTF-8 support feature in 1.4.xx is greate, so please find out cause of this problem and fix it on next release.
Thanks so much.
Not sure of the pararmeters for the audio album jacket display, but it is still just the music note icon for all of my songs with album art embedded in the files - mp3 and flac.
It is unfortunate DViCo decided to not include Arabic support but it makes business sense; with the 6600 being released shortly, the 6500 has reached end of life. We are seeing the last bit of firmware for the 6500 and they may have decided it would be too difficult (ie, not cost effective) to fix this. The good news, as KSA mentions, is that there are options like the Xtreamer.
Arabic's ???? come on this is not a common language, it´s not what we want
Peter, this is quite false, it is a very common language, just one that may not be spoken where you are. And last time I checked, Hi-Jack hasn't run a poll on what language "we want" so your comment is without merit. In fact, it would benefit every manufacturer to make these players universal with regards to language so that they would have greater global penetration and, as DarknessX and KSA have shown, will prevent brand disenfranchisement. It may not be possible to do, but limiting them to just the few perceived most common languages is plain foolish.
Your comment strikes me as bordering on xenophobia. If I misjudged, apologies, otherwise I ask you kindly to refrain from such statements in the future.

Thank you Dvico for the Hebrew support in the new Firmware 1.4.14/18/22
THe Hebrew reveresed is good but not perfect and I would like to help in this case.
In the examples I used latin letters in order to ease understanding however pls note that in hebrew we read from right to left so in the examples given below whan I use the word "hebrew" the letter "w" is the first and the letter "h" is last.
1) The following punctuation marks: period, question mark, comma should be attached to the word on the right and then space.
for example:
In the new firmware : .hebrew, hebrew? hebrew
should be correct in TV : .hebrew ,hebrew ?hebrew
2) All punctuation marks on the right side should not to be reversed. ( "-/);., )
for example:
In the new firmware : ""hebrew, hebrew? hebrew
should be correct in TV : "hebrew ,hebrew ?hebrew"
3) The apostrophe punctuation mark should be attached to the word on the right and then space and after the number mark in the left side.
for example:
In the new firmware : ' 123hebrew, hebrew? hebrew
should be correct in TV : 123 'hebrew ,hebrew ?hebrew
4) Number mark in the left side should not be attached to the word on the right.
for example:
In the new firmware : . 123hebrew, hebrew? hebrew
should be correct in TV : .123 hebrew ,hebrew ?hebrew

Actually, last time I tried new firmware from Dvico it hurt my wallet and personal time pretty bad. My personal files and folders became corrupt and I can't delete those files anymore.
Corrupted files still seems to take 4 gb space and all the folders (that used to be files) are shown on file system but cannot be deleted. I had to buy new HDD just to be sure my hard drive wasn't breaking and I can save my family memories.
But my hard drive was't breaking. Instead of that, Dvico had just offered us another beta of their famous firmwares...

Quite frankly, if you really want to save your family memories you have to have a backup anyway, especially when you are about to use a PreRelease. Playing around with a beta FW on a system which contains critical data is pretty much... err... well, let's say "not wise".

Allow me to make a suggestion, although you may have read it in other threads.
Connect TViX to your PC via USB
On PC do | Start | Run | and type cmd
In the window type
chkdsk x: /f (where drive x is your TViX)
This simple solution appears to have solved the problem for many users!
I hope this helps!
+1, sometimes it is hdd parameter problem.
Love that high - speed trickledown effect for us 4100/5100 users... Would be nice to get my DTS pass through back, and a stable firmware other than 1.4.52 from eons ago... No new features, just a working firmware with no bugs in the current feature set.
My experience with 1.4.22
Updated using Memorystick and save-upgrade. No reset.
Went to my NAS. From the NAS I hit the DTV button.
Set it to record 2 shows the next day. Went back to File-system.
Noticed a DTV_REC folder in the root of my NAS drive!!!
Went back to the TviX harddrive and it was empty. Pressed info and it said file-system unknown. I then rebooted my TviX and the internal harddrive was back and working fine.
The next day the TViX had not recorded any DTV shows!!!.
Back to 1.3.168 again...

Got the same problem with this 1.4.XX test firmware and my Samsung 1TB HDD.
Thanks for this solution and it works, but the next time you connect USB, the problem is back.
Went back to older (pre 1.4.XX) firmware and the problem of corrupted files is gone.......
DTV scheduler does not record anything
same service, 2 different days, 2 different durations, 1 result: no data, not even a zero length file
Downgrading to 1.3.168 failed on my TViX. I tried a safeupgrade twice with same result:
The TVIX goes from BOOT to Loading to BOOT forever...
Trying 1.4.22 again now... I hope I can get it booted ok!
Nope... My TViX cant boot up to main menu anymore! It keeps booting.. over and over again..
I will try and do a safeupgrade again tomorrow, when the TViX is less warm...
BTW - is there any new feature to set back the counter? Re-installing the FW does not do it any more.

You forgot 'racism'....
Also, English is a widespread language, worldwide spoken by millions of people.
Pre release firmware? WTF? What does it mean? They want to fix things before they actually break them?
OK that was meant to be sarcastic, It did not probably deliver the amount of irony I have in relation to lack of upgrade to permanently broken 4100/5100 models. Which they dont bother to fix even after three years of failed promises.
Irony is that they distribute pre release version of FW totally forgetting about post sale customer and product support.

Do not need to rename, you can download and update.

Without the rename is doesn't do it either. Get the same message that it's an unvalid update from co.kr So do you have another solution then?
I tried the FW just one minute ago, updated without any problems, booted up again without any problems - and nothing has changed but... the counter indeed magically disappeared. So far: Great! :-)

+1, downloaded it again and now no issues to change the FW succesfully. Yes the counter in the BR/BD has disappeared. Lookin' if the black screen/flickering issue is coming back here too, will update.
The original post on this firware said it was the Regular version, but looks like it is the BR/BD version if the counter has gone sorry a little confused.
The original post on this firware said it was the Regular version, but looks like it is the BR/BD version if the counter has gone sorry a little confused.
No it's not the regular version, it has BD/BR in it. And the FW what I am talking about is the hacked 1.4.22 version where their is no max of 100 plays of BR's anymore in it:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ynn2mm2hz2n
The "bd" has become a "regular" part of the player's firmware... That's why it's named regular.. There will be no more separate BD and Regular versions... The "regular" indicates, the normal firmware you are expected to use on the player :-)
We could have explained it but it's more fun like this
Thanks the mist has cleared and the light is revealed maybe worth a try.
Hi,
Anyone knows what the known UPnP issue "Some internet radio may not be supported" means?
I'm trying to get a Jamcast server to stream a live feed from my audio card to the TViX but after starting to buffer for a few seconds it just stops. I've tried other clients on a PC and it works just fine. The Jamcast developers thought it might have something to do with the stream being without a length since its a live stream. All other files (with a fixed length) I've tried accessing from the TViX via the same Jamcast server works directly...
Anyone who solved this with Jamcast or other software running on Windows 7?
Best regards

I just installed the VietnamHD hack, seems to work. I have a stand alone TVIX, and to be honest with you if it was connected to my network then I'd be very wary about using it. We've no idea who created it, and what other goodies are installed. Denial of Service attacks and identity theft as a trojan horse spring to mind. Yikes.
Hello Hi-Jack!
Could you get us updated on the work that is being done at Tvix?
I was wondering if the SAMBA issue is found and when there is a new beta firmware planned.
Best regards.
Ray
do you have the next problem:
When transfering files with FTP and remote is used, unit reboots.
Do you have the same problem?
Just to confirm if it is a bug.

Hello Hi-Jack and everybody!
Please note DVICO's recent admission: firmwares 1.3.x (and following) are not usable by some customers.

...We changed Sigmadeisngs(main chip company) SDK from 1.2.52 and it seems new SDK causes the problem. But we cannot go back to 1.2.52 SDK because it has other problems.
We are sorry but we cannot do anything because Sigmadesigns are not releasing new SDK anymore.
Hi there Hi-Jack,
YES I have the same problem when copying through FTP: the Dvix reboots. This is a clear bug. I noticed the message from gibi1970. Could you double check with DviCo if the trouble with the SDK also is causing FTP copy / reboot issues?
Maybe Dvico can release a statement on which issues they are working at and which of them probably won't be solved?

1. shoutcast is not working more than 40-50 minutes, seems like memory leak or overflow
2. still no support of anamorphic mkv
3. can confirm that black screen problem disappear after switching from 1080p to 1080i
I'm having problem setting Luminance control 0 - 255 on DTV mode. The setting would default to 16 -235 when switch to DTV making the picture looks overly bright. Going back to Video mode then enter Setup menu to switch back to 0 - 255 would cause the device to reboot. Has anyone experience this?
4. NTFS volume corruption _very_ disappointing
4. NTFS volume corruption _very_ disappointing

1.3.168 and later has this bug.
Tested.
1. 720p MKV playback still does not work stable for some files. The last version it played correctly was 1.2.52. The symptom is that video freezes for 0.5 seconds in about every 5 seconds, file is on internal disk. On PC and on 1.2.52 no any problems. I can provide link to the MKV file if needed for testing. Problem confirmed by testing with 2 different 6500 units with different hard disks. No workaround.
2. 1080p BD remux has stability problems also to play without stutter.
3. File copy to internal disk over SAMBA do not work for big files. Workaround is to use FTP, and this problem is known.
1.2.52 remains the last version that plays video stable. All extra bells and whistles cannot be enjoyed if main function ("play video file") is not stable in new firmware. Reverted back to 1.2.52. By going back to 1.2.52 I am loosing forward, backward, goto, chapters, reboots happen if I press info button, freezes if I change between AC3 and DTS - all navigation is not stable or not working on 1.2.52 and more other features also do work properly on 1.4.nn. But if I just start the file and watch - 1.2.52 just plays all the file without single lost video frame. 1.3 and 1.4 versions stutter on more complex scenes and its not only because of stream speed. 720p version is relatively low bit rate, still stutter.
I tried to report the problem via www.dvico.com ->menu "Customer Support/Multimedia players" on main page, but I get HTTP 404 Page not found while browser is trying to open: http://www.tvix.co.kr/Eng/Support/?act=LA
If M6500 programmer is reading this - please raise the prority for basic MKV playback stability over the additional features. As hardware becoming old, its time to stop expanding features and concentrate on stability problems.
I'm using HDM7000A with T530 Tuner.
My problems with 1.4.22:
1. In video mode, my BOOKMARK doesn't work anymore. It keeps saying "UNSUPPORTED".
2. Scheduled recording doesn't work. It will turn on by itself but will stuck at "loading" with the message "no signal". I have no problem with signal strength, and can do manual recordings. But timer recording just won't work.
3. Images from DTV and the menus of HDM7000A seem to have shifted a little to the right. Not centralised like before.
Does anyone have the problems?
This may sound stupid, but...how do I downgrade to the previous version? Simply click the file to re-install?
Thanks.
For MKV problems, I found problem files usually show information in MKVMerge as encoded in nonstandard fps (mostly 29.96xxx which should be 29.9700). And I believe it the main problem for stuttering. Maybe a bug in old encoder / muxer.
Because H264 elementary stream has no information on fps. They will read information from MKV container. I also got 1 avi that has 29.96xx fps and the playback result is the same but after I change fps with Virtualdub it played fine. But for MKV I found no solution to these files yet.
IIRC they changed the way of MKV Playback since 1.3.x which is might be the result that those nonstandard fps file has problem. And yes it runs fine in PC.So I won't lose my sleep over these problem files.

I have the same problem since 1.3.147. I've reported as bug:
FW Version / Bug: since 1.3.147 to 1.4.22 / video shifted to the right, with vertical black band on the left in HDTV mode at 720p
Bug relates to: Video /HDTV
Bug Found: In HDTV mode (T430) 720p video moves to the right with vertical black band on the left.
Reproduction info: Tvix at 720p, HDTV mode and video is shifted to the right. Returning to the file browser looks good. It also happens at 1080i,p. I think it is since it uses the native resolution option.
Boot loading stuck! Downgrade to 1.1.44 and then upgrade to latest.
This is apparently the only solution.
As I have the same problem, could you point me in the right direction to be able to do this.

Hi,

Now when i think of it maybe thats the problem... because flac is not supported by windows without third party programs...

- When used with some TVs, screen flickers and becomes black after a few
seconds. This happens very irregualry, so it is hard to debug.
We think it's SDK(Software Develpment Kit) bug from Sigmadesigns. So,
we did some work around. When this happen, please press "VIDEO" button
once and it will become nomal.(It is hard to check whether it solves
the problem because we only have one monitor (out of 100 TVs and
monitors ) that can reproduce the problem but it happens once in days.

There is a thread in DViCo TViX M-6500 M-7000 ( http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21455 )
At first glance it works just fine.
TV switch is now even faster.

Rapidshare Download Link for 1.4.25:
http://rapidshare.com/files/291547179/tvix_M-6x00_1.4.25.zip
Installed 1.4.25.
When I return to the player after switching to DTV (VIDEO -> DTV -> VIDEO) there are 2 issues:
- the images on the background (tvix.jpg) are shifted on the right;
- when I go to "setup" and select "apply now", system reboots.

Hi, short question of a young user: How do you use mp3 radio stream in 6500A?
Any information when "Digital" sound will be enabled again for AAC playback? On 1.2.52 it works but in later versions only analog is available, option to select "Digital" is disabled. And I can hear only a stereo sound while in "Analog" mode, while with 1.2.52 I get full 5.1 in "Digital" mode (Panasonic XR-58 lights up "AAC" indicator and plays 5.1 perfectly - tested over HDMI).
As more content becomes available in DivX7 format (Divx7=H.264 + 5.1 AAC in MKV container), only stereo sound is a problem.
Big files over Samba problem will be fixed, and other 2 new bugs introduced from 1.3.nn still remain uncorrected:
1. Stable MKV playback (some files stuttering, possible reason described in earlier post by oldpoem user)
2. Digital AAC (5.1 support for AAC audio tracks)
Hi, short question of a young user: How do you use mp3 radio stream in 6500A?
1. In your "Audio" folders create a folder with a name for the stream of interest. Give the folder a name extension of ".pls". For example the folder might be called "Sky.FM - A Beatles Tribute.pls".
2. Create a single file in the folder with the URL of the stream as its file name.
3. Open the folder; click on the file name and wait till the audio starts. It takes a few moments for the buffering of the stream to finalise before playing starts - approx 5 to 10 secs with a download speed of 1.5 Mb/sec in my case.
Of course the TViX must be online to the internet.
If your internet service provider (ISP) has an un-metered service to the stream provider (as in my case Internode in Australia), then replace the "filename" in point 3 above with your ISP's URL for the selected stream e.g. "http://radio.internode.on.net:8186".

Thank You very much for Your very usefull answer Sailor !!! I'm a new guy here, but I'm really glad to see how helpfull are the users in this forum !!! Thanks a lot and many greetings from Poland to Australia :)
Glad to help. I guess the weather's cooling down over there - you'll need the musical relaxation. Sunshine and beaches coming up for us!
Discovered a little bug.
After playing the movie trialer downloaded (.mov file) from apple,
the TV output will change from HDMI to DVI automatically, I have to reset the output to HDMI in setting menu again everytime.
Same issue here. And now my picture is way too bright. As soon as i play a mkv the brightness goes up. Sometimes it switches from hdmi to dvi, but often its still set as hdmi but overbright.
I have this issue with brightness also. I do not see any reboot issue (yet)

That's great! Thanks also from me! ;)
Tested 1.4.25. Executive summary: quality failure.
Problems:
1. Some MKV playback stuttering (same MKV work stable with 1.2.52)
2. Digital AAC output is still disabled (works in 1.2.52)
3. Big file copy over Samba is still NOT fixed (works in 1.2.52)
Not possible to copy 20GB file - copy status window says "calculating...", while file size is slowly growing on the Tvix disk, and after a few minutes Vista displays a message "Destination folder access denied". After a few more minutes player freezes. Not work also via FTP - trying to copy file of this size produce an error. 20GB file copy works OK on FW version 1.2.52.
Re-flashed back to 1.2.52.
Hope is lost to have a stable product with 8630 or lower series SigmaDesign chip inside. Will check C-200 (SigmaDesign 8640 series) and if that will be failure again, later will check some player based on new Realtek chip.
2. Digital AAC output is still disabled (works in 1.2.52)
3. Big file copy over Samba is still NOT fixed (works in 1.2.52)
2. Digital AAC output DOESN'T WORK in 1.2.52.
3. I was able to copy 10GB file over Samba with 1.4.25.

YES! Large files can be copied again, at least in my case. I was using 1.3.132 until this 1.4.25 came. Finally the benefits of the new FW series wíth the SAMBA services!

SAMBA is windows only (right?), NFS is more supported (and much better) by Linux. That's the only thing I know, I don't have Linux experience whatsoever :(
Do you think 6500 or 7000 will support Real Media Files any time soon? Or there is no hope at all?
