Hi all,

After completing the review this forum has been setup to answer any questions or issues that you have with the player.

I intend at some stage to have HD-Horizon representatives answer questions and troubleshoot problems that members are having with the player.

If you have not already done so, check out the review in the Reviews 2009 section of the site:

http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/links/reviews-2009-9/

This may answer some of the questions that you have about the player.

I intend to create another thread for questions that you may have.

All the best,

Advocate86

Great review - thanks.

I will particularly want to play AVCHD camcorder files - Am I right in presuming that as you mention m2ts it will play them fine?

Hi Simonl

I have tested AVCHD files with the player and YES they played fine.

I used to have to play the same files on a DD disk in the PS3.

All the best,

Mine can`t read MTS files (which are AVCHD related chapters ) but can read Mov HD , VOB & MP4HD through the USB I have a WD2500BEVT sata Hard Drive loaded which the PC can see but the TV through the unit can`t! I note that USB is "named [Sda1 } , does the hard drive have to be also named? I`ve also tried an external backup drive & the USB Host can`t read that either. Have contacted John & Michael of Jasine of China & awaiting their replies. WDHDTV has same chip is only a bit bigger and gets simialarly hot but can read all of above with exception of internal drive I stand unit on heatsink and it takes the heat away perfectly. My firmware is latest 1.32 as I write because they`re really throwing them out at the moment" File work" also does`nt appear to work!! I was attracted by the size and stated performance but have hit a buffer with these probs

Thanks for your feedback. The MTS files can't be read now.We will upgrade the programe later.I think you can try to change the name of .MTS files to .M2TS files.
Thank you very much.

Thanks for feeback on file format, but still no luck or response re the non reading of Hard Drive, which I think is very poor! Instead of printing a list of compatible drives, we`re left to flounder! I`ve managed to get WDHDTV media interface to read drive with little or no increase in weight so it`s an electrical thang. I see the WD Scorpio Greens burn less voltage than the blue`s - but at a price! Is that price worth paying for a "stab in the dark " I ask myself?

The WDHDTV Interface ( full size not mini ) plays excellently through the compontent slot set to normal ratio it dips when the VOB chapters end , which I suspect the NMP-MOB also does - if anyone is there who knows how to make it work. Getting a "primed" version from the factory is NOT the same as retro fitting an off the shelf hardware that only half works! But I read the review anyway!. The Drive is formatted in FAT32 and took a week 24/7 to transfer at USB1.1 speed so am glad that the drive is not at fault a bit more thourgh instructions in detail downloadable PDF. is definatatly required, I hi-jacked the NMP`s power supply to drive the HD Enclosure, so I can confirm that that works fine!

I managed, despite the post strike, to return the unit to Hong Kong and got the returned product the other day. The New Firmware now allows MTS files to be read now and unit which came supplied with new mini laptop top type cooler is now actually running cool! Thanks for pointing this out to them! I`m in the middle of an ultra-slow defrag of the new Sata Drive, only the Microsoft defrag will work with it on ME so hav`nt tried it in the host slot yet. I do feel that boasts of product are going to come to fruitiion after quite a few more firmware updates, but the stark truth is that people want a media player to play their media!! If it doesn`t- or doesn`t yet, then the moans start: I still have hopes that product will aquit itself as described in the last lap

I`ve just finished the very long hard drive defrag and as expected, the Bollo-Mob can`t "See it " I proved this by putting the same stuff it "Can see " on the the USB over to the Hard Drive which is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue.

Until they issue a firmware to sort this out the boasted Unit performance is in limbo: Luckily the firmwares are being thrown out at one or two a month so as I didn`t choose an obscure make!! ( with 5.volt working ) My hopes are for an early resolution, Helped no doubt by their current showings at Trade fairs where hopefully some home-truths were aired in their language !as when in doubt, they fall back on "Me no speakee the Lingo" tactics this side of the pond

The Current Screen res setups almost entirely ignore Europe and mostly have 60 hertz flicker not the required 50 hertz ones. These either don`t work work properly or are "for show" as they currently have no visual impact for better or worse at the present time!

I got really excited when firmware 1.6.0 was said to increase "hard drive awarness" alas no joy, -then overnight 1.6.0 was rewritten to 1.6.2 (the notes are still 1.6.0! ) With same results I`ve even tried taking cover off and trying to drive from H/D input but currently no joy .

John sent me an E Happy New Year Card & in wishing him for next month (it`s the year of the Tiger guys ) I filled him in too. The trouble with unit is they chose one USB and this has to double for a broadband dongle. The slightly larger WDC by Western Dgital uses the self -same chip and has two USB`s & of course CAN read it`s own Hardrive !

The Usb out to PC CAN be read!! by the NMP-MOB which again makes for the PC "experience!" The USB in can now read MOV & MTS thanks to recent and frequent firmwares. I`m still optomistic that one day unit can read my FAT32`d drive, hopefully before May this year as would be Ace to take abroad, but currently looks like its the WDC that will be making it there (Portugal )

When I was having USB troubles, it could read MOV files but not MTS I`d like the drive to read AVI & VOB files but currently the page is blank and it can`t read a thing

Subtitles :
How do I change subtitles ? Almost all of my movies are full ISO copies of the DVD (with all menues, extra...). But when I play a ISO file the VTS_01_1.VOB files starts playing (not showing the menu) and when pressing the SUBTITLE button the text "no subtitles" are displayed.

I also have a single movie that does not play - it seams that the wrong file within the ISO is selected.

It appears that the FW only supports external subs - not internal. Can anyone confirm.
Quite annoying considering 99% of all my files are 1:1 DVD-ISO.
It's also impossible to change the audio track in DVD-ISO files.

Therefore saying that they support DVD-ISO isn't quite right.

Nope. It does support internal subs (at least in MKV's). I've used it many times.

Thanks.

So the final result is like this I assume:
Internal subs are supported, but only in certain containers like MKV for example.
DVD ISO (made from regular DVD-Video disc) can have only one type of subtitles -> internal (present as a subpicture stream in VOB files).
If such subtitles are not supported by firmware then it's really quite a shame and Bollo should not claim their player supports DVD ISO without explicitly mentioning this lack of basic functionality.

I got this replay from them :

"Yes! We're developing DVD navigater, will fully support DVD-ISO with menu, subtitle, audio setup function. We need more time to improve our firmware. Please notice our following firmware versions."

Waiting for an answer on when this FW will be released

I have tested FW 1.7.0 and there is still no full DVD menu support for DVD ISO files. I still Can't select audio tracks and subtitles track.
So not much of a change......

Got mine on Friday....
tested it with external 4 bays HDD, it can see the 3 HDD inside the enclosure, so it's a good thing, however, the performance is a bit weak to my expectation.
I bought it with the cleaverly design coolaer fan, so heat is not an issue to me. Main complaint is on the performance even with the latest 1.7.0 firmware.

1. Not total BD-iso support
it look like the MOB will internally convert the bd.iso file to BDMV format and play the largest available file, my "Bolt" and "12 Rounds" bd.iso did not start from the beginning but middle of the movie. It also does not support BD menu and not even the BD-Lite Menu :(

2. Shutter/lag for high bitrate movie.
The player is having problem playing high bitrate movie/concert. I've tried "Iron Man" bd.iso, the starting scene where the army jeeps moving through desert, the shutter/laging can be seen clearly and the audio were gone missing after that, checking on the info, it says Dolby TrueHD, but what my Marantz SR6003 display is only Dolby Digital. (apart from the slow loading time, my Dune BD Prime 1.0 play this bd.iso perfectly).

Same thing happened to Jacky Cheong: World Tour 2007 with 96/24 recording.

3. Playing mkv's
The Player play the mkv I have in hand perfectly though.

4. Ability to stream DTS-MA/TrueHD
When select from player to stream the lossless audio to my receiver, my AVR only receive normal DTS/DD signal and I could feel the lack of dynamic for the playback of "300" during the 1st fight of Spartans and the Persian

I did not test the dvd.iso yet as I do not have any of them but will try rip some and test.

I did bought their USB-Ethernet adapter and would only test it on later stage. And just bought a 640GB HDD to put and being formatting by my PC now. My PC can detact the player as astorage device without needing external power to the player so it does act as an external HDD with no problem.

It's a very good design player, however if they could solve the shuttering/lag/loss of audio during playback of high bitrate movies and support full bd.iso and bd menu, it would be a perfect player

more results will be posted when I have time to play with the network streaming and if play back from internal HDD solve the shuttering/laging problem, it could be the transfer rate of the USB is not up to the task.

The 1.7.0 FW has not added full DVD ISO support. They have added support to selecting audio tracks, but not subtitles.
I have a full DVD ISO file of the animation movie Coraline, but no audio tracks are found by the Bollo - my TViX can find all 4!
And as mentioned by mpywisme - the largest available file in the ISO is played - not always the right one to choose.
Bacause 99% of my movies are full DVD ISO files - most of them are useless on the Bollo - I can't select audio track, I can't select subtitle and the movie is not allways played from the begening.

I guess I have to wait for the FW with full DVD ISO support

2. Shutter/lag for high bitrate movie.
The player is having problem playing high bitrate movie/concert. I've tried "Iron Man" bd.iso, the starting scene where the army jeeps moving through desert, the shutter/laging can be seen clearly and the audio were gone missing after that

Same problem here with high bitrate BD rips from external USB drive.
No problems on my Dune BD Prime playing the same movies from the same USB HDD:

FW 1.8.0 is out.
Disapointet. Look the the realese notes : 2 months but only a few minor error corrected. Still no DVD subtitles support and still no DVD menu. Therefore this device is still pertty much useless for me!

1. Solved the problem that the HFS/HFS+ file system can't be recognized.
2. Solved the bug that some of PGS language types can't be recognized.
3. Solved the bug that some of OSD languages can't be showed correctly

Edit - DVD menu are sometimes showing but with the remote it is not possible to navigate. The arrow keys on the remote activates vol+/- / time seek !

Well, I use the unit mostly for when I'm travalling. I will aviod bd.iso all together and only play mp4, mkv, avi and ape from it.
