for those people who has the tvix 6500/7000 and 1.5.10 or 1.5.11 prerelease
i made a web app that is connected to themoviedb.org and creates custom
folder.png (Movie Icon 136x186) and tvix.jpg (Movie backgrounds with info 1280x720)

IMPORTANT:
1.it's in test mode!!!!
2.if something does not work it's normal
3.don't overload the server and make only 3-5 backgrounds per day or I REMOVE IT
4.(if u like it contact me and i continue to develope it)
i'm also do the same stuff for series and music..... but
for music i wait until tvix get's better support for id3tags and iconsizes... 120x120 200x200
for series .. i don't know how to place the info, folder structure, icons and so on (needo some help)
in the same way as i write the info to the image i can create folders linking to a movie.
so if tvix get back(works on 1.3fw) the m3u support in synapsis mode for movies i can implement something like this

how it works:
1.go to http://www.privatemedia.it/tmdb/
2.type in a movie of your choice.
3.click the themoviedb.org icon
4.save ure searched movie icon as "folder.png"
5.click on the serched movie icon
6.edit the movie info that loads (optional)
7.click youre preferred background image
8.WAIT!
9.save the background as "tvix.jpg"

ok. I managed to get the search to work and now get folder.jpg to appear on the page and have saved it.
I can't proceed. nothing clickable to get me to movie info :?

As themoviedb is in english (or some movie in original title) it's not possible to change language... but u can manually change title and synopsis
and so searching movies in other languages will not display anything.
but:
1.changing the search engine with the imdb api will allow to search in every language.(final result comes from themovedb)
2.if there where more services like themoviedb in other languages i could add them and then search in the preferred language.personally i'd like to get info from filmup.com (italian)
but there is no api or fetch script i know.
3.if someone knows other api like themoviedb i can add them in future.
4.made the same stuff with thetvdb.org but need some more ideas to show the various info on the bg as there are seasons and more video files in one folder.

1.shure actors / studio (maybe with logo) .... (director is not provided with themoviedb.org i think ... have to look)(can also add actors images but ...)
2.need some ideas for positioning everything and/templates ...NEW IDEAS ;)
3.best way was if there was accounts ... so everyone can make his own template(and share it) changing font type font size positions and more.
4.and yes the idea is to make it easy and fast.... i don't wanna have to set everything.

so next i will add actors and studios (if someone cuold find some studio logos(best transparent png) would be nice)
IMPORTANT: if someone knows tvix developers... need to get the m3u support for the play button in synopsis mode... so there are possibility to add variuos folders categorizing movies by:year, genre, actors and more
and yes if this goes on good thing will be host the script on more servers (routing) so it remains fast.
like:
if there are server1 server2 server3 ... if someone creates bg with server1 next who creates a bg will send to server2 and so on...

Great job, I absolutely love the tvix.jpg that is created. I've been waiting for an app that would create a background by using themoviedb.org. As already mentioned, I would scrap the budget and revenue fields and replace it with actors and director. I also think the star icons are a little redundant since the rating is right above it, but thats not a big deal.
Any plans for creating an app that allows batch processing? I'd love to create these backgrounds for my entire movie collection.

Great program, have used it a number of times and works great. I had a couple of problems though, Tried to do the following movies - 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' and 'Julie & Julia' but when I try to open the TVIX.jpg file it said the file is damaged or corrupt. Can you look at these two, as I love the way your files look and want all my files in my collection to be made with your program.

Unfortunately, I am stuck to TViXIE which already stores all my movies data. Anyway, your template is actually the one which fits best with the layout of the latest firmwares.

If anyone is testing this at the moment and gets 'Error on page' message in the status bar, this is not due to the search engine.

Your search function on the front page of your web site doesn't seem to find all the movies from themoviesdb.org. If I type 'Against the Dark' in your search field it doesn't find the movie. But if I do a search for the same movie from themoviedb.org website it is there.

think themoviedb.org did some changes in the site so we get some errors...
the memory size error is on my site because it works with several big images... (can be fixed)
but i'm trying to use less memory....
64mb allowed now...and used per image .... and that's very much.... normally a server uses only 2mb.
but i'm reworking the whole script...
actuallly i'm working on a gui for creating templates and a batch script creation for system links in ntfs.

Have you tried TViXiE lately? It is now very easy to RIGHT clight on your background in TViXiE and make manual changes to text and add new folder artwork directly in the same box at the same time.

Yes, I just tried the latest version of it. Not my peace of cake though.
Babylon A.D doesn't seem to have a cover when you do a search, but is able to find a cover when it creates the fan art. Is there a way you can create the dvd cover manually and select your own picture to put in folder.png?

UNICODE is not supported as the text is generated with PHP GD using True Type Fonts.

this script generates folder.png based on a template (transparent png)
i mad it to simply add more custom templates ....

how it works:
basically it's a transparent png with the size of the final icon.
the cool thing is that the filename contains the info to generate the image
the filename is divided in 3 parts
type of media - width & height of cover inside the icon - offset left & top of the cover
so if one of you want to make a custom icon for example a cd ....
in tvix cd icon size is 200x200
so you create a 200x200 icon with a blank cd case
addsome shadows or what you want... and let the part where the cover comes in transparent or semitransparent by some light effects...
now you have to check the size of the cover inside the cd case (example:width=170px height=169px)
and check the offset from left and from top(example:left=20px top=10px)
now save the image as png and the filname will (type : Audio Compact Disc -> acd):
"acd-170x169-20x10.png"
now the script know that when rendering the image it has to put the cover 20px left 10px from top and it has to be 170x169px.
understand???

I am eager to see the xml app progress as it would solve my major concern in using your work: language (the family around me can't really cope with English)/ and correction/completion of the info retrieved by the app. The xmls app would also benefit from the possibility to write and customize the fields captions (ex: "Casting:") the same way than the fields themselves...

Your kind efforts are most welcomed, but to be honest i got jealous when I saw an htpc with media browser which AUTOMATICALLY download all movie info from imdb (the folder name must be exactly the same as movie name on imdb).
Is there any chance to do the same with Tvix 6500?

The htpc like the plex or xbmc take the info not just from imdb but from various sites like thetvdb.com or themoviedb.org and other... and there are involved much expirienced developers.. with create various fetch scripts to retrieve the data...
this needs several updates every month... and much developers.
since fetching of data is not 100% legally(from imdb and other language sites ) and it needs much support of developers
it's probably impossible that it would ever seen on original fw.
But using a custom fw could make that possible.
and it would not difficult to make .
basically u just have to get the tvix to scan the directory and send it to the site witch as answer sends back the folder icon and background image.
but i'm a web developer. and not Tvix developer.
u need to search for custom tvix fw forum... if someone is willing to make a app that can handle that i'm happy to build a interface that connects with tvix. using thetvdb.com and themoviedb.org

obviously you can do that with a sw on a PC (tvixie for example, www.tvixie.com).
Comparing an HTPC to a Network Media Player is not a correct comparison, the former is a PC, the second does not have a real CPU, it's a purpose-built CPU for multimedia processing but it's not good for general purpose use.
I know the tvxie program but all I'm saying is that all these programs cannot run automatically update movie info. You have to manually import all data info from internet. It is impossible to do always this procedure when you have e.x. 10Terrabyte of movies or when you delete/import movies all the the time.

I have almost 30TB and are more than happy that there is not an automated process running since none (nada, zero) of the scrapers is gathering correct info of all movies. You do not want a movie updated automatically when the information is incorrect, so I am more than happy with MGB so I only have to do that once for every movie and it's done for all eternity. There is no need at all for updating this information.
However, there are solutions out there being able to do this, e.g. yamj (not working with the TViX though) giving a pretty impressive and useful interface, but then again, not able to get correct movie information other than english.
i know that automatically update is not accurate 100% but it is 99% with no doubt. I don't mind if info is only in English. I prefer English language.
If there is a solution for Tvix similar to yamj please let me know.

folder.png (Movie Icon 136x186) and tvix.jpg (Movie backgrounds with info 1280x720)

Wonderfull database you've built. However, I'm encountering issues when searching for a serie like "The Walking Dead" or "Sons of Anarchy"
When I'm clicking on the dvd box icon, nothing is happening. Javascript is giving a issue IE is saying. Other browsers are saying the same.
Can you please look into that? Seems like the TV Serie db link is not working properly?
