hi all!
i am new to this forum and first i want to say thank you for all the great reviews on this page! :)
i have a question about your review of the ac ryan playon hd though ...
for me upscaling of sd content is really important, i have some avi files and want to play them in 1080p on my 46" lcd tv with better quality - you wrote in your review ...
"I tested DVD iso’s, Divx and AVI files and all played as well. The up-scaling of the SD formats was impressive, chaptering on the DVDs worked without issues, my classic sci-fi AVI movies - like the Quatermass series from the 50’s, World Without End (1956) and First Men In The Moon (1964) - all looked like they had had a face lift by a top plastic surgeon."
... i also saw that you own a onkyo 875 av receiver which is able to upscale sd content with it's nice internal raeon chip.
does the good image quality of sd content you are talking about comes from the ac ryan playon hd or from your onkyo 875?
another question is - are the other players with realtek chip (like DViCo TViX 6600 or Xtreamer) not able to produce a good image quality for sd content? (couldn't see any comments on that in the reviews)
i remember to saw some comment from a Xtreamer developer who said that the Xtreamer just "blow up" the picture for sd content without any filters and that this is the reason why it could not look as good as on other players.
i would be happy if you could answer this 2 questions ;) THANKS!
P.S.: i also thought about buying a player with a sigma chip like the HDI Dune 3.0 or the new Popcorn Hour C-200 because they are able to play blu ray discs too but i was not able to find any information if they are able to upscale avi files too or how they look like. so i decided to buy a media player which is able to make avi files good-looking and a seperate blu ray player with good upscaling for common DVDs (like the Oppo BDP-83 with it's VRS ABT 2010 chip or the Samsung BD-P2500 with the reon chip) - though it would be nice to have one device for all :)
still don't know what would be the better solution ...
