I have connected an external hard drive to my pc, my dune sees it via the network browser, but, it asks for a user and pass when trying to access it, i cant find any reason why this would happen, any ideas how i can just get the dune to see it as a normal drive?
I have even mapped it as a network drive with no luck. All permissions set ok as well.
Any ideas?
Regards.
If it prompts for a password, likely reason is permissions have not been set correctly. Make sure "everyone" has access to the drive and check the ability of your OS to allow "guest" access. Usually there is a default features that allow enabling / disabling the use of the guest access (which means no authentication whereas "everyone" is still some form of authentication from having a device within the same network access the source)
Now if you had included your OS... i might have gone deeper...
Lack of that info did not allow me respond where the settings may be...

Now ok....i hadnt set the permissions under the security tab, now all ok, regards
Some settings that should do it - at least Ellion 500 and Woxter 750were happy with this. (Win7 64Bit)
Control Panel - Homegroup - Advanced Sharing settings
-- Turn on Network discovery
-- Turn on file and printer sharing
-- Enable file sharing for devices that use 50- or 56-bit encryption
-- Turn off password-protected sharing
-- Share your folder - Everyone is in by default.
-- Add Everyone with Read at tab Security !!!
Start - enter secpol.msc in "search programs and files" and hit enter.
Local Policies - Security Options
-- Accounts: Guest account status : Enable
-- Network Access: Let everyone permissions apply to anonymous : Enable
-- Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares : Disable
At first connect there may pop-up a mask asking for user and password: leave empty and hit return.
This should do it.
