View Full Version : Internal 2.5" HDD option
One of the key features is the Internal HDD option: Use an optional 2.5" SATA HDD installed directly inside the player.
Some users might intend to mount such internal SATA HDD after the warranty period is over.
HDI/Divxplayer.nl/Hi-Jack: Can you please explain, how this internal drive is connected, which wires or adapters are necessary and if this is already included and available in the housing because we are not allowed to open the housing without losing the warranty.
On the pictures from IFA I didn't see a third SATA connection. If a USB2SATA adapter is necessary I would expect that this and the SATA power adapter is already contained within the housing. Otherwise the key feature is not fulfilled because it is stated as "SATA HDD".
I've bought a WD Scorpi Blue 2"5 750 Go HDD
and I should receive my Dune 3.0 in a few days .. yeessss
so I've exactly he same questions ... :-)
and one more : must the HDD be formatted (ext3?) before installing inside the player ?
If anybody had an experience with HDD installation, I'll appreciate
Hi,
I have asked divxplayer.nl:
"I would like to know if I can mount a harddisk in the Dune Prime player my self and how about the warranty then?"
And got this answer back:
"Sorry, the one with HDD is a different model, and building in your own HDD will void warranty. (information from manufacture)"
------------------ and:
"However, we have an agreement we can upgrade the unit, once we have the seals and tools"
------------------
The HDD fitted model is sold indeed as a seperate model however, the user can stil choose to break the seal and insert a hdd themselves. You would have 2 options to connect it...
The unit is prepared to host a 2.5" drive internally and a power (molex) connector is also available already. This needs to be extended to power the hard drive (Molex to Sata). The hard drive itself can be connected using the USB hub internally (as usb drive thus) or on the internal SATA connector which is shared with the external eSATA so connecting to the internal SATA would loose the external eSATA option.
There's not a lot of room to get the job done (twisting cables is necessary to reach the hub underneath the caging system for the hard drive. Initially, as we understood, the cables would be delivered with the box however with the message to go to your distri / reseller and have it fitted.... (this is still possible as far as I know but with upgrade kits provided to resellers and distri by HDI)...
It looks like distributors are provided with "kits" to do the job and some resellers already agreed to build it in free of charge at the cost of the hard drive only if the product is purchased from them... We are currently not working this option as we are pretty much concentrating on the bdloader mainly at this time. We will pick this up in due time...
Thanks Hi-Jack.
There's not a lot of room...
Is this the reason why the WD Scorpio Blue 750 GB and 1 TB models which are 12.5 mm high (instead of the WD Scorpio Blue 500GB which is 9.5mm high) are not offered?
Thanks Hi-Jack.

Both of them (750 Go and 1 To) are sold on HDland website ... and I was told that these HDD were compatible with Dune 3.0 ...
Any answer to my question about formatting HDD ?
Best regards
Jluc

Install the hard disc and prime can format as ext2.Is better to format with prime 3.0.But if you want to format to computer as ext3 no problem prime 3.0(or other dune players)can read and write to disc.I have dune hd center and prime 3.0 and both has not problems with ext2/3.
Will the Base 3.0 (and Prime I guess) require a disk, like Popcorn Hour C-200?
The PH is messy, as you need a disk to install the NMT apps. That means hot swap of the disk in the disk bay gets complicated (cant be NTFS, NMT apps must be on all disks etc..)
My plan is to use NTFS formatted sata disks and swap them as you would a DVD...

No, a disk is not required for the machines operation except off course, if any options are used that require storage. The external attached devices by the way work in the same way as an internal drive...
There's still a few mm space left inside the housing so I don't think there will be an issue with a 2.5" disk that is few mm bigger... We haven't tested so can't confirm but there's still some space left between regular HDD and the housing cover. I haven't measured how much but I might be willing to check tonight for yah :-)

You don't have to pull you player apart :)
Just wanted to get confirmation that you can use the Base 3.0 with only NTFS disks that you swap in/out...
