We have just been informed the Dune Players are ready to ship to USA. The preliminary information as we received it:

"Sorry to keep you waiting but we've finally managed to resolve all problems from the production here in China. Now the goods are ready to go!!"

We are arranging shipping with our forwarder and customs agency. More details to follow...

Are these units completely the same like the 80 early Buy-In units from MPCclub?

With "noisy" and "cheap" Blu-ray drives inside?
Some of them even possibly BROKEN without ever being tested first in the factory before shipping to the resellers??

We have been notified that our production order of Primes has in fact been completed, and air freight shipping arrangements are currently being finalized. We have been assured all possible issues with the optical drive have been corrected in this production run. While we received no specific details on the production run changes, we are confident that HDI took all the reported issues seriously. In fact, HDI halted manufacturing until all the issues were resolved. We still intend to test each and every unit before shipment to ensure every customer receives a quality, functioning product. If you prefer a factory sealed unit, please let us know in advance.

Good news! We were able to increase our first batch order yet again, so every pre-order will be filled from this first batch. A limited quantity of additional Primes is now available. This will be the last chance to order, and receive, a BD prime in time for the holidays.

We have been informed the first production run of Bases will be shipping approximately a week after the Primes arrive.

We have made the decision too extended our tech support hours to assist all HDI Dune customers. Our new hours will become effective when the units start shipping in the USA. Assistance will be available for Dune configuration, server setup, and My Movies integration. New hours: 8:00 am EST to 1:00 am EST

Hi Arthur,

Can you explain me the policy of DunePlayer about the Base 3.0?
Why it's coming after the Prime.
I know the Prime has problems with the BDLoader etc... but the Base has no
BDLoader => No BDLoader => No problems.....

For my point of view the Base is much more interesting as the Prime, but the most guys have already a Blu-ray player and don't need a second one...

Erni, I completely agree with you. I also feel the Base makes the most sense especially if you already own a Blu-ray player. For some reason 70% of customers want Primes. That said, I do like having the convenience of an optical drive built in. However, the main reason you would buy a Dune Player would be for playing stored media.

Regarding the Bases coming a week after the Primes, I don't understand it myself. Never the less that is the case. I guess making sure the issues with the Prime BD loader were fixed was the primary focus and the production of the Bases got delayed to. I'm just happy they're finally coming!

Arthur,

I just looked at your shop. And was amazed by the US prices. In Holland the Base will cost $490........ What's up here? Do you also ship players to Holland with a 220V connection?

Jafo, Exchange rates vary and included VAT taxes can add to the price as well. We do not have a VAT in the USA. Stores can charge more for a product if they want to as well. Sorry, we are not able to ship to Europe. You may want to try divxplayer.nl

Just a note: All players work from 100-240 volts. They use a standard IEC computer type power cord.

The units newly shipped have all been tested and likely the patch have been applied to them to and no issues are expected with the players leaving the factory now... This does not relate to the players that had already been shipped... At least for playing back drives it seems they are confident issues are resolved... The noise issue is still ongoing but if people rather not sit and wait (as we can't predict the outcome), you should choose to make use of the available options to return the unit...

Did they take this conclusion out of the user-reports here or was there a change in production-process at SunExt?

I hope they didn't conclude that from the test results here, because my BD loader still does not work, even after the patch.

"BD loader still does not work" in terms of "not at all"?
In this case the patch cannot help.

Ok, to be clear:

- All units shipped out to the distributors this week are the same units as from the buy in, only the units with faulty drive have been held form the checkek stock (all checked)
- On the units shipped out this week to all distributors the patch is NOT applied, because the patch is still NOT tested 100% by Dune themself, and the patch was to test on the recend unit with problamatic drive AND since the faulty units have been ruled out, no need to aply the patch

no, it recognizes a disc every now and then.

I did post my results in the patch thread.

Same HW, no patch, but working loaders.

So HDI was able to find the cause for the faulty drives and SunExt changed something in production?
Or is it just picking up the bad ones and only sending out the good ones?

jamesuk
30-11-09, 21:34
I don't care what they do, I just want a working loader :)

mysticc
30-11-09, 21:46
In the end you are right, is the only thing that counts.

However HDI knowing what caused the problem and not only picking the good ones now to ensure no faulty units make the journey from China certainly would give some,..... ääääh,... confidence loaders being reliabe not only now but in the future as well.

In the end it is the old thing - communication - everyone knows how important it is - acting this way is a different thing -as often.

Somewhat disappointed.

Time to sleep and dream of a working prime .-)

I'm pretty sure they have taken steps to ensure that only working players will be sent out from now on, since shipping costs for non-working units will really eat into their profit-margin, and I don't assume they want to sustain too much of a loss by rushing out units when they know the initial batch was highly problematic.

Will they be only shipped to the US or do people from Europe also have a possibilty to get one? What are the plans of HDI now? I really got lost in the information jungle now

Yes, they will start popping up all over in Europe as well...
Early next week there's batches expected to be delivered in several regions...

According to Divxplayer they will be in the shop at the end of the week. There might be a chance that customs will hold them for checking licenses, but then they are here........
