Hi,
Has anyone had the time to collect and make a library of Internet Radios and IPTV ?? (I can find radio-stations but no IPTV !)
If we all chipped in we could make an impressive collection we all could use !
What do you think ? any other idears ?

the reason why you wont find any overall available iptv collections is that iptv is send as multicast and only works within one ISP.
ask your ISP for available iptv offers and how much you need to pay for. as far as i know there is no free iptv channel.

I like Your suggestion to make a library for internet radio links.
I'd like it if there was a place where I could find working internetconfig files for radio.
Maybe for people who, like me are new to this field. Below how You can make Internet radio config files for
Dutch internetradio. (took me some time to find out how to.)
I have made some for dutch radio 1 till 6.
I made them bij modifing one off the the internet radio config file which I found on the firmware page from HDI.The icon I did not change.
I just coppied them and changed only the name of the folder and the media _url.
Below the content for folder:

Have seen your preview in another topic (http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22440&page=7). Nice job!!! I was also working on a list of dutch radio stations but I had no time to finish it. If you need help just ask.
I mainly need background artwork of radio stations that cover more then one station. (already found one of Sky radio) Icons and station stream IP's are not the problem. Suitable 1920x1080 (1080P) background artwork is. :roll: So if anyone does find one, don't hessitate no matter from what country the station is.

Nobody have some compatible addresses for Italian radio? Anybody can posts a detailed procedure about how detecting these addresses to put in Dune links?

I have tried it, but I don’t think its supported. It looks like a WMA 9 stream (http://klassiek.kro.nl/surround.aspx#) and according the dune website, only “HTTP/MP3 Internet radio stations are supported”. I have also found a asx file, but it only had mms streams in it: http://www.omroep.nl/live/radio4-5channel.asx
The quality isn’t that good, but I use: http://shoutcast2.omroep.nl:8106

For those interested I have made a playlist with (popular) Dutch radio stations. Also attached is a rar file with about the same stations in iconview.
To use the playlist: create a new file with notepad, paste the text below, and save the file as filename.m3u
To use the iconview: Just copy them into the InetRadio_config folder (link (http://dune-hd.com/firmware/inet_radio/)).
I don’t listen to all stations, so please report it if a link is not working or if you have found a better link.

You need to know IP/protocol used.
In Belgium, BelgacomTV works fine for uncrypted channels (most used ones for me anyway). Quality is as good (or as bad) as the official decoder.
Of course, EPG etc won't work.
Does anyone tried out Belgian (dutch) radio stations ?
Would appreciate "folder" of US free-IPTV that works well.
Also, would like to know if anyone has used Slingbox HD as source for IPTV?(or even it applicable at all?) Plan to put one in NewYork so I can watch "Stored" content from abroad

Thanks for your efforts! There have been some changes in the streams, for example at Veronica. I tried to figure it out myself and found the following on the stations' website:

Now... which part do I need to use for the .cfg file to work?
Other changed streams are SkyRadio, Dance department and Classic FM.

Here is a nice german site with many radio stations sorted in genres.
Most, or all, of them only play music, no german talking. ( its very nice, please check out !!! )
Its also possible to search artists etc, or add stations to favorites. You also have a nice cover for your new stations.

First I've got to say, building a radio station library together is a very beautiful idea, and Kickthedodo showed how nice it can look with those icons and some work. Great!! I will have a "Nederlands radio" folder and keep them all besides my own favorites. :)
Unfortunately, a few stations do not function any more (right now): Kick FM, Hitradio and Radio Decibel. And I guess within the next months, a few more stations will fail. I have crossed this problem with a 10 years older multimedia player called "D-Box2" with Neutrino software...:
Some internet radio stations have static stream URLs, but others do not and the stream addresses change from time to time!
Just the address of the ".pls", ".m3u", ".asx" or ".ram" file that contains the actual stream address(es) and that you get when you click on a "play" link on a website (if it's not flash) will in most cases stay the same as long as the station exists. Therefore, the Dune player absolutely needs to be able to directly open and play internet radio addresses like these, where it first must read the playlist from a http server:

As I understand the Dune can process AAI files faster than other file formats. However the radio station logos are usually small. Performance seems to be less of an issue.

I checked your list: indeed most of the station do not work based on the current URL. However, I managed to extact a working URL out of the pls files in some of the cases. Included them in attached M3U playlist, which can be played on the Dune. The Sky.fm radio channels are in low quality (64 kbit/s MPEG), unless you are a premium member of Sky.fm

I have seen that when the playlist contained several stream addresses and the first is overloaded or offline. After a while, or by pressing "next", the second address is played.

Yes and it can be a tiny bit faster too. In some cases, for example at http://www.subflow.net:8000/listen.pls it is obvious too: The stream address (http://www.subflow.net:8000/) actually is the same address, no need to use the playlist.
But this is a rare example, often the stream address is completely different, and sometimes it will change after some weeks or months.
So I recommend, when a radio station is not actively publishing a stream address, but only a playlist address, try to use that playlist address.

I added a folder, with corresponding icons, in which you can store playlists. If you copy it in your radio station root folder, then the playlist icon should appear as the starting icon. See Playlist.zip above.

Thank you... this is for display with 4 rows and 5 columns, right? In the other collection there were 5 rows and 7 columns being used, and smaller images (96x60). I think this is very much dependent on personal taste. They don't mix well in one folder.
But now I must ask something else please... maybe I just missed something: After installing system storage, the Dune shows "(empty)" when opening IPTV and Internet Radio folders. Now it does not use the "InetRadio_config" folder from an USB drive anymore, but reads them from system storage. Problem: No access to system storage files by FTP.
So to make changes to the Radio stations, I would add/change the station folders on an USB drive or network folder and then copy them manually on the Dune's UI. Seems to be the very hard way.

Yes, that's correct. However, by using the icon_scale_factor command in the dune_folder files you can resize the icons. For example, setting it to 0.7 (70% of the original size) and using a 5 rows x 7 columns grid results in the following:

By resizing the context box you can reduce the size between the icons, creating an interface that is more in line with the other example you are referring to.
One drawback however: the selected icon is not affected by the icon_scale_factor option and as such does not resize.
So to make changes to the Radio stations, I would add/change the station folders on an USB drive or network folder and then copy them manually on the Dune's UI. Seems to be the very hard way.
You can copy all radio stations at once, by choosing the select all option in the context menu. Actually that works quite quickly. Make sure to disable hiding of system files in the setup menu, if you are planning to copy files like dune_folder.txt that are in the root folder. They are not visible otherwise and will not be copied.
Another solution would be to not use the default Internet Radio folder on the main screen (you can disable it in the setup menu). Instead, create an Internet Radio folder on a shared network folder and create a link to that folder on the Dune main screen. That way, you can update your Internet Radio station directly on the respective network folder.

I made a start with creating icons for these radio stations. Icons for SomaFM and 977Music channels (22 in total - I found some additional channels at 977Music) are included in attached Supplement 4. It's quite time consuming to create those icons! When I have the time, I'll try to create icons for the other stations.

I made a start with creating icons for these radio stations. Icons for SomaFM and 977Music channels (22 in total - I found some additional channels at 977Music) are included in attached Supplement 4. It's quite time consuming to create those icons! When I have the time, I'll try to create icons for the other stations.
Some updates: I created radio station icons for the SKY.fm stations in Starwarp's m3u-list plus all other current radio stations from SKY.fm (36 in total, see supplement 5 below). Bitrate is 64 kbit/s. If any of you have links to higher bitrate streams of SKY.fm channels, let me know, then I'll update the current links.

All Providers and yours 2 have different Methodes that streams allowed to there Users.
You must call or look at your Provider how Stream Protocolls are allowed to you
Then you can see at the HDI Dune Homepage a Sampl,e File within a readme how to build a IPTV Stream to a txt File

Hehe, no, thats why i was asking you..;) I know that some mediaplayers , i.e. ACryanHD and WD LiveHD are able to stream those. It comes with the software/firmware. So i was just wondering if it couldt be done on de HDI-Max as well. Anyway its not a big problem. as i said, was just wondering.

Check this site: http://station.penbex.com.tw/index.php
Choose Station Lists and then Italy as location. If the station link doesn't work, then check the website of the selected station. Unsually they have multiple types of streams available. MP3-streams usually work on the Dune. Succes!

On iTunes you can add a Station to your playlist and make then a m3u File
Or look and search on the Homepage for the Stream you want (switch in the browser to source code)

I normally visit the website of the respective radio station. Usually a number of streaming links are offered. Not all types of streams work on the Dune. Mp3-streams seem to work best. Just a matter of trial and error!

Any idea what could cause this issue? I am running firmware 110127_2105_beta. It also does not play any .m3u files, this results in the same error. I'm kind of desperate since I sold the unit to someone who wants Internet radio.....

Hey, I checked the radio stations on my Dune with the latest firmware (same as yours) and they work.
How did you install the radio stations? Does hard restart of the Dune help?

Check the DHCP-settings in your setup. It will fix your problem !!!!!

I am using the Dune Max with firmware 110225_1222 I try to connect to the radio online but could not.
I did as instructed with the old firmware is okie, but the new firmware is not.

I opened your URL with scripting disabled, then instead of the embedded player I got this link which is a stream URL (asx is a playlist format).
You always need a stream URL, not a web page URL!
A small question, what is better or more appreciated; aac 64 kbit/s or 128 kbit/s mp3?
Recently I had to answer the same question and after some research I came to these findings: For sound quality, 128 kbit/s mp3 is definitely better than 64 kbit/s aac.
At the same bit rate, up to approx. 192 kbit/s aac is better than mp3, at higher bit rates the difference becomes insignificant. But if you compare aac and mp3 at different bit rates, you can very vaguely multiply the aac bit rate with 1.5 to compare with mp3. So 64 kbit/s aac is approximately same quality as 96 kbit/s mp3. Ogg is a similar story.
By the way... one interesting fact I read at various sources, which is important if you want to encode your music to either mp3 or aac and you are using a Mac: Apple's mp3 encoder which is delivered with MacOS is really bad compared to their aac encoder and other great mp3 encoding software like LAME. So don't use it.
