I am trying to make up my mind which harddisk I will place in my Base 3.0. So here are the options. A western digital green disk or a Seagate barracuda.
The capacity will be 1,5 Tb. For the time beeing big enough.

I do not want to install a fan in the dune. But I am downloading at an average of 500 Gb/month and all that data has to be placed on the dune connecting it to my computer. I am not going to put it on a network.

Second question is about the way of formatting. I want to buy a new harddisk in advance and put all my movies on it drom the computer. Can I format it under Windows or do I have to use the EXT2?

Anybody answered to this question? Can I put a 2TB HDD Segate Barracuda LP 5900 rpm (ST32000542AS) into my HDI Dune Base (2.0)? I cannot find any discussion about this issue in the forum... Help me please. Thanks.

Either one is good. Make sure the drivers are 5400 rpm drives and not 7200 rpm. There is no need to format it to EXT2 with the latest beta firmware because write is enable for NTFS. I have a 5400 rpm Samsung F3 (2tb) from day one, and its been working great for me.

Beware: NTFS is supported only for Base 3.0 units, not for V2.0 ones.
We think that the new green Seagate HDDs which spin at 5900 rpm (ST32000542AS) can be a good solution. Anybody tested them into our Dune Vase systems?
