Hi

Is dune 3.0 BD prime capable of decoding Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA as PCM like my playstation3?

I'm very interested in this question. Because I have a receiver Marantz SR5001 HDMI 1.1 which is able to receive LPCM 7.1 and I can hear these high resolution formats decoding as PCM and passing to receiver. This is how i'm doing with my blu-ray titles connected to my PS3 and hdmi1.1 receiver.

I've read about dune 3.0 is capable in this post http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19903

But i've read too that dune 3.0 only does a downmixing and only get the dolby and dts Cores?

Can anybody help me! Because dune is now available in the shop and they can't help me... about this question... This will be the substitute of my PS3 ... :D

Yes, it converts (decodes) DTS HD MA & Dolby True HD into PCM.

Reading your updated Table i can understand this:

My configuration will be:

Dune audio setting: PCM DECODE
Connected audio device: AV Receiver 7.1
Decoding audio on: Dune

Dolby True HD 5.1 --> PCM 5.1 DOWNMIXED
Dolby True HD 7.1 --> PCM 5.1 DOWNMIXED
DTS HD MA 5.1 --> PCM 5.1 DOWNMIXED
DTS HDA MA 7.1 PCM 7.1 DOWNMIXED
DTS HD HResolution 5.1 PCM 5.1 DOWNMIXED

Downmixed???? I can't understand because it does a downmix. For example, When in my PS3 I select a Dolby true HD 5.1 track it converts to PCM 5.1 not downmixed.

Or i'm wrong, and what I only have to look is to these settings?

LPCM 5.1 --> PCM 5.1
LPCM 7.1 --> PCM 7.1

LPCM 5.1 and 7.1 are the dolby true hd and dts hd ma decodeds ?

Maybe I used the incorrect term "downmix", I my updated table for HDMI connection.
I donīt have confirmed data from this HDMI table from other user, because I canīt test it now, then I donīt update main table.

In this case we can talk about decoding to PCM streams.

What is the difference between decoding Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD in the player (i.e. sending over HDMI as decoded PCM) vs. decoding in the A/V receiver (i.e. sending over HDMI as encoded Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD bitstream)?
There is no inherent difference in quality between Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD being sent over HDMI as decoded PCM vs. encoded bit stream. All Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD decoders (whether in the player or the A/V receiver) must be certified to meet stringent quality requirements. However, consumers should make sure that their receivers support the number of incoming PCM channels delivered by their source device (e.g. BD, DVD).

...no...
Linear Pulse Code Modulated Audio (LPCM) = Pulse code modulation (PCM) with linear quantization. PCM is a digital representation of an analog signal where the magnitude of the signal is sampled regularly at uniform intervals, then quantized to a series of symbols in a digital (usually binary) code. PCM has been used in digital telephone systems and is also the standard form for digital audio on audio compact disks (Red Book format).
Linear PCM is a simple, uncompressed representation comparable in transparency to uncompressed bit-mapped images.

I modified the HDMI table now:

I hope, that is clear now.

Thank you very much:D

Now I've understood that Dune 3.0 can do the decoding like my PS3 (first release).

I will buy dune 3.0 bd prime this afternoon :-P

I've received my dune :)

I'm in BD PRIME 3.0 Setup:

I have selected these Audio Settings:

Diigital Audio output mode = PCM (decode)

Hdmi audio = on

But in the next step I'm not sure

- What do I have to select in BLURAY AUDIO?
*Best quality
* Pip Support

If you don't need audio from PIP (secondary stream), select best quality.

Manual says:

"Blu-ray audio
● When set to "Best quality", and the "Digital audio output mode" set to "Bitstream", the primary
audio track is sent to both S/PDIF (digital audio output) and HDMI as a bitstream
not depending on the presence of secondary audiotrack; secondary audio/video functions
("PiP") are disabled.
● When set to "PiP support", secondary audio/video functions are enabled, and, to support
these functions, the player is allowed to use the "decode" mode instead of the "bitstream"
mode on digital audio outputs (so the audio quality may suffer, e.g. stereo PCM may be sent
to the S/PDIF output, and multichannel PCM may be sent to the HDMI output)."
