ok so I just got my prime. Mainly I've been having probs.

1) So far have been unable to connect to my NAS. I can browse the SMB share, workgroup and open the NAS but when I try to access the movies folder I get a "network resource is not accessible" error. The folders are not password protected and I tried the admin user name and password without success. I have at least 10 other devices that connect to the nas regularly without problem. I can browse the NAS from my other media streamers and computers. The nas itself is a readynasNV with 4TB o data

2) I can access shares on my other computers but the network speeds are super slow. There are long delays to start files and all the high def files stutter after less than 30 seconds

Any ideas

My network is a gigabit lan with a netgear switch and router.

Turno off the gigabit option in your Dune. Should fix a thing or two. Gigabit is actually not needed to stream Hi-Def files. Works perfect over 10/100mbit network.

Possible other solutions:
Is it possible to set the share with "guest" access? Worked for me in Windows 7 (or the option "everyone)

Map a static share of your folders in your Dune (click the pop-up menu button to create a network directory)

I already checked that and its not activated. Thanks.

The share is already set with everyone access and when I try to map a static share it says I can't connect.

I'm rebooting right now and will try setting a password for one of the shares and see if that works.

Already posted this in another thread with the same questions.

I assume you are connecting via SMB to your share.

If you make a network folder on your dune and set it to SMB you have the option to enter a username and password.

And this is where the trick comes in.
Windows Vista & 7 both don't allow annonymous connection via SMB.
You MUST enter a user name and pass otherwise it just wont connect.
( It's not the folder share properties that cause this as you asked above )

So if you map your share on the dune, be sure to enter your account information you use for windows. Or you could always make a new account for the dune on your PC.
Just make sure it's an admin account, that way you don't have to set any permissions for the SMB folders and all that kind of crap.

I can access share on my computer. The problem is accessing my NAS (which is not a windows device). I have a 4tb readynas which holds almost all my media.

Maybe you should ask this question in the ReadyNAS support forum and see if other users have problems?

That's a good idea.

This problem seems to be with the readynas. I fired up an older terastation and was able to access this by browsing and making a share folder. Once I made the folder the stuttering seemed to resolve (although initial load of .iso files takes around 90seconds as compared to less than 10 seconds for my xbox and computers). I'm copying over some HD files to the terastation and will test them for stuttering later.

I still have been unable to acesss my Readynas. I've tried setting up a share with password protection and playing around with the user settings.

The only thing that seems different is that everything else is on my household workgroup while the dune is on its own dune workgroup. I corrected for this in the radynas without result, but is there a way to change the workgroup of the dune itself.

Also can I use the ip address of the Readynas instead of the name. When I've had problems accessing devices on the network (and with over 30 devices attached to my network this has happened before) The best way to correct it is to just use the ip address of the device

The Dune workgroup is from the internal storage I believe and it shouldn't matter if it is in the same workgroup or not. Tested this out myself.

Yes you can use IP adress as server.

My Dune setup:
Dune has static IP
Gbit feature disable
Shares dedictaed in Dune (Server is the workgroup name of the device in the LAN or its IP adress, directory is the main shared folder name)

You tried sharing a file from your computer to the Dune. Does it work? If the answer is yes, your problem lies in the readyNAS for sure.

Speed:
Check your router settings. Could be some kind of boost option is enabled for your GBit LAN. Discble those.

@Malignant It does work without username and password. Just give the share access for everyone or guest. Works for me in Windows 7 For UPNP give access to unknow device in your homegroup settings.

I can access and play files from my computers and the terastation, but I get stuttering with higher bit rate HD recordings.

I'm still trying to figure out the Readynas I have a query into their tech support, but as of now I appear to be out of luck (which unfortunately makes the dune a no go as I have too much data on the readyNas). Tried the ip address but still no dice.

Check this: http://www.readynas.com/?p=310 Especially: "How can I get help if my ReadyNAS performance is still slow?"

Check this: http://www.readynas.com/?p=310 Especially: "How can I get help if my ReadyNAS performance is still slow?"

Thanks. Its not really readynas performance that's the issue (I can regularly transfer files at 40MB/sec) Its that I can't browse the folders and therefore can't play the files on my readynas.

My stuttering probs are from my terastation which maxes out at 9MB/sec. The stuttering doesn't bother me too much yet because I don't use the terastation for media. I was only using it in this case because it is the only thing I can connect to.

OK. It appears you can't logon to the share using the generic anonymous or guest id. you need to use the share name as the logon name. You don't need a password.

ex
Share is ReadyNas/Movies to set up folder access

server- ReadyNas
Folder- Movies
user- Movies

Still can't get NFS working. Performance is ok so far. Some stuttering on larger files. Plays my only BD.iso fine

Thats exactly i got here with my Base3.0.
Currently I have a direct connection between my winXP laptop and the base3.0 with static ip and auto negotiation. Firmware is 091023_1444 (cant update to 091211_1311_beta). The laptops nic says 100MBit FD, but read tests with SMB shares result in 110kb/s speed.
Setting the NIC to 100MBit HD fix results in 6.1MB/s reading speed. From that point on all avis or DVD-isos are watchable.

But I cant watch BD-isos (AnyDVD ripped). I tryed 6 BD-isos and none played acceptable over SMB-share. Just the first 10 to 30 seconds run smooth and than it starts to stutter. Monitoring the network load is quite interesting. during the read-test (6.1MB/s) the load is pretty constant on 50%. while trying to watch a BD-iso the load is far below and everything else than constant. (see the attachment. first two curves are the read test. the rest is the bd reading.)

http://codeq.de/dune_bugtrack.JPG

1. why does 100MBit FD not work? Where to set it up on the Base3.0?
2. why does the Base3.0 not use the whole bandwidth to read BD-isos content?
3. why cant I update the FW? (Error: Invalid firmware file)

I just got my Base today and the setup to my ReadyNAS NV+ was pretty painless. My only stumbling block was Capitalization of the folders in the share.
This is how mine is setup:
Type: NFS
Server: 192.168.000.150
Folder: /media/Music
Protocol: UDP

My ReadyNAS has a static IP. Don't know if I could have used just "0" instead of "000", but in my TviX I couldn't, so I just did the same thing with the Base.

Media is one of my shares, and I created 2 Network Folders on the Base to that share, "Music", and "Videos". Again capitalization is key. My "media" share is lowercase, and the folders are titlecase. I have another share I use and it is titlecase, and the folders are lowercase. If I don't put them in the Base exactly the same case as it is setup on the ReadyNAS, it won't connect.

I haven't done performance testing yet. I'm also updating the capacity of my NV+. Until it's done syncing and expanding, performance is going to take a big hit. I've tried MP3's and SD iso's, and those played fine. I have to wait till the NV+ is done until I try BD iso's.

I updated to the beta fw.

to 1. Still very low bandwidth with FD mode. (~ 770kb/s).
to 2. after updating to the beta FW, i got 7.9MB/s read-test. much better than before. the BD-iso is now smooth for about 20s than it starts to stutter for a few seconds.
to 3. i needed to init a system storage.

see the net monitor attached.

the first curve is the read test.

I got improved performance if I made a direct link to the folder instead of browsing using SMB. I still haven't gotten nfs working. I can watch a whole iso or large file without stuttering, but I am still plagued with intermittent problems. These clear up if I restart the player, but right now that won't work with the rest of the family. Its been a week now and I'm not sure if I want to commit more time to the player. I got this so it would be pretty plug and play and it hasn't been.

ok.
I'm back home now and tested all this stuff with the ReadyNAS NV+ 100MB FD wired to a 16Port unmanaged 100/10Mbps switch, which is upscaled to a FritzBox 7170 (uses cut-thru) and then there is my Base3.0.
The Base3.0 is connected with 100MB FD to the FritzBox!!! No need to castrate the NASs speed. ;)

The SMB Read-Test gets me 11MB/s and all HD content plays quite fine.
The NFS speed hasent been tested so far.

Why is a Dell Notebook D830 not able to deliver enough data on a direct connection to the Base3.0? while other machines have no problems? The Notbook is fast enough for that job....

Did you try upgrading the driver of your NIC? Not from Dell, those are probably old, but from the real manufacturer. I had issues with my Marvell Yukon chipset NIC. After upgrading they were gone.
