Including BDLite support (audio and subtitles), improved HDMI handshaking, improved support for DVD and a list of other items this update can be considered quite "changing"... Hopefully it all works well too which I leave up to you to test while I'm on leave for the coming 3 weeks...

Update 25 December 2009:
Due to some hacking of the firmware in a particular Asian country Mede8er had to change the security of the firmware and this change led to some users reporting "Invalid Hardware" once they had installed the V2. Mede8er worked on Xmas day to resolve this issue and is happy to report that it appears to be resolved in V2.0.1.

They also took the opportunity to fix a bug that effected invalid files. According to Mede8er they have noted some further subtitle issues and hope to be able addressing these on Monday to post another update hopefully the same day.

Emergency Recovery Procedure<o></o>
Download the latest Firmware from the Mede8er website. Unzip the file and you will find two files ie install.img and logo_pal_bmp. Copy both these files to the root directory of a Flash Drive. Plug the flash drive into the Mede8er. Disconnect the power jack at the rear of the Mede8er then plug it back in - Now press the on/off button and hold it pressed for 10 seconds and then release. The LED on the from fascia of the Mede8er with flash red-blue and you will get a progress bar on your TV display (some TV's will not display this) wait until the Mede8er re boots itself +- 90 sec. You Mede8er is now be updated. Re boot once and use as normal.<o></o>

NOTE: Once you update to V2 you cannot easily go back to older versions if you are using an internal Hard Drive that was formatted with the Mede8er. The update process will not damage your Hard Drive contents but the Hard Drive will then be shown as HDD1 instead of C. If you are not using an internal Hard Drive than you can roll back to a earlier version without any problems

It looks like it works! A lot of new options. What I liked most so far is that I can play an avchd iso with subtitles and subtitles can be turned on by default.

FTP Server is not working good. Upload stops after aprox. 200 MB, speed goes down to zero and then times out...

Hi Eric,

I don't have the issues you have with ftp.

Can you post some more details about your connection (Wan or Wifi) and FTP program you use?

When I do a tranfer with Windows Explorer ftp I get steady performance, both with lan and Wifi connection.

Be sure to use binairy mode when using an FTP program.

Please also be sure to follow up the rev 2.0 update instructions:
- only update with emergency recovery procedure
- unplug power after update and plug in again
- do not use restore config function but set everything by hand

Also installed the firmware and works good, only the option to play BD-ISO or BD files stutters through nfs.
When i am playing the map or file i first losing the sound and the movies plays heavy stuttering, i use a gigabit network. With the last firmware 1.2.2.a the heavy m2ts files plays very well, no stuttering.

Hope they improved the network very soon.

My Mede8ter is connected via LAN and i`m using FlashFXP (The Best FTP client in my eyes), and yes transfers are in binary mode.

The strange thing is that it works with my notebook without any problems.

Thanks, there looks like a lot of nice new features and improvements implemented in this firmware.

Its nice to see the subtitles being improved because they could be quite hard to read on the 1.2.2 firmware because the font used isn't bold.

A nice early Christmas present.

After the firmare update the Mede8er requires a Hard Reset ie unplug the power from the Mede8er and plug and back and then power up and you should be fine again. NFS transfer speed has not changed since V1.2.2a

NFS transfer speed must have changed as i played the same file on 1.2.2a and it stutters and now it works smoothly. 1080p mkv dts audio.

still room for more improvement in the Avchd (m2ts) and mpeg2 (mt2s) high bitrate files still stutters.

I have some troubles with finding de network shares on windows XP. The old firmware had no problems finding them. Nothing has changed in windows and de mede8er sees the computer but won’t show files. I have also disabled the firewall but nothing helped. Does anyone have the same problem?

Solved: Added the computer by creating a new shortcut

Hi Kickthedodo,

Are you using the network shortcut menu of the mede8er to connect to your PC shares or NFS?
Try to set it up manually again.

Be sure that you have used the right fw update procedure (if not do it again):
- use recovery mode to upgrade to 2.0 (not the update in mede8er gui menu)
- after update unplug power to hard reset it
- then power up and manually configure everything again, don't use the restore configuration option (there are a lot of new features in 2.0, doing a restore config will therefore not work correctly)

I have a problem with my internal hd after FW upgrade. It doesn't seem to recognize my hd anymore. In 'system info' it states there is a hd, it also states what size it is, but that's it. In the file browser I can browse to the hd, but all contents are gone (maybe that's normal after a FW-upgrade?). It doesn't show up as either C: or HDD1 though. It just says Hard disk.
I can't do an hdd format either, or copy files from an external hd to the internal hd.

I installed the hd while using the previous firmware with a lot of files already on it. So I never formatted it in the Mede8er. Could that be the cause of the problem?

I also think I did the firmware upgrade right. Removed DC plug, on/off button for 10 seconds, waited until everything was done, started up the Mede8er, then removed the DC plug again. Apart from the hd issue everything seems to work great.

Its solved. I went directly to network shares, workgroup and then my pc. I thought the previous firmware asked for a password before I got access, but instead I saw an empty directory/pc. I added my pc in the shortcut menu like Maasbommel (thanks!) advised and I had direct access to the folders on my computer.

Yep...same problem here noticed it some minutes ago. I generally use english subs although i am Swedish so i missed this. The god thing is thats its probably easy to fix...so just relax. :)

Strange, but with 2.0.1 the scandinavian alphabets worked ok in a .srt-file for about 10 minutes (with central european encoding), after that they vanished again!

Try Western text encoding works for me with swedish characters in .srt subtitles.

1. Try a hard reset - unplug the power chord. 2. After that select western text encoding again. 3. Make sure the .srt have the same name as the movie file. 4. Cross your fingers ;-)

Hi!

I made a hard reset and watched a movie for 30 mins and the subtitles worked the whole time. It might actually have been that I did not do the hard reset when I updated from 2.0 to 2.0.1 then (I used the regular update procedure). Thanks Ormbett!

Still no support for Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master. Also not playing the core AC3 inside a Dolby TrueHD stream. So if you play a BD rip with only Dolby TrueHD sound you have no sound at all.

Correct, and as far as I know that is the case for all Realtek based players. If Realtek releases an updated sdk with HD-audio support it will be included in future firmware according to mede8er.

Just got my Mede8er, and updated to fw 2.0.1.

Found 2 strange things:

1) Inserted a HDD, but when you go to the HDD Format option, only the Cancel option is enabled! There is no way to format the internal HD. Tried a Windows NTFS format in the PC, but afterwards still not able to format it with the Mede8er. Tried a Partition deletion in the PC, but afterwards still not able to format it with Mede8er. Reflashed the Mede8er with the old 1.2 firmware, and was able to format the HDD. Reflashed again with 2.0.1, and was able to access the HDD.

2) When connected to my NAS (a Synology 207+) with NFS, and playing a MKV file, the picture stutters. A good testing file like The Fifth Element (BD edition in MKV), hardly plays with big stutters. But when connected using SAMBA (same synology), most MKV files play without stutter. Only the Fifth Element file has some stutter.
Strange though, because the NFS connection is supposed to be faster than Samba.

I am curious to other experiences.

What smooveg has failed to post when he leaked this link a few hours before public release, is the relevant warnings and the very specific installation instructions with respect to this update.

I would highly recommend that anyone carefully read these instructions BEFORE installing this firmware.
