Hi there,

does anyone else have problems when playing avi files?
Every file i tried is juddering during playback.
The audio is ok, but the video "hangs" for a very very short time... during action scenes in the film, you can see that it does not play the video correct.

With other files (mkv...) i have no problem, just with DVD-and BD-Rips.

Anyone know about this bug?

I have the latest Beta firmware installed, should i try the old stable one?

Thank you in advance
cheers

EDIT: It happens every 20-40 seconds... :-(

I dont seem to have playback issues, but when I move forward with up arrow or seach idnex feature of about 30 mins it will take one minute or so before playback starts again :)

Try the newest beta firmware or disable fast SMB access and see if it helps.

I have tried Stock which didn't have the option, beta 1311 without fast smb access, and new beta 1411 with fast smb access ... it gives same behaviour in all configurations.

Unfortunately, Dune support for AVI files (mostly used for SD video) is not very good, and sometimes it can not properly handle broken AVI files having no proper index structures, so it needs to scan through the file (read a lot of data) to do a time seek, and it may take a while.

This is the standard behavior of Sigma SDK, and we unfortunately have very little control on this. We'll look if some improvements are possible, but this is currently unclear.

The easiest way to solve/workaround this problem would be to recode such problematic AVI files using some PC software, to make them properly indexed (or maybe even to put them into another container, e.g. MKV).

Also ensure you don't have 1080P enabled. Switch to 1080i @ 50/60Hz and leave auto framerate on.

... tried the same files today without changing any setting.... now it is playing without juddering!!

Don`t know why!

On my Emtec N200 the video picture is much better when playing avi`s as on my new Prime.!
I tried the same movies on the same TV and i have to say that there is a BIG difference!

cheers and i wish a HAPPY NEW (bugfree) Year 2010...

Thanks for explanation .

I can understand that some AVI support can be poor for now , but i would not say that it is a problem of the file itself.

Actually the same AVI can be played and moves back and firth on my PC without having to read all the data in between. I have currently about 160 Movies on my NAS, probably 40 are in AVI format.
Additionally, even if MKV container is more popular today, I would not say AVI is only for SD neither.

If there is something wrong with sigma sdk and their way to support AVI, I hope they can do something for this. What makes a media player great is also its ability to play and work around most of the media files you can throw at it. AVI is not a rare format in my opinion.

Even if (of course) I could convert all my AVI movies in MKV ... it's a hassle to do and it is not really what I am expecting from a "universal" player :)

Kick Sigma design's a.. and have them code AVI support properly, most software players succeed here, no reason for them to stay behind ! :p

I really hope they can fix this, because a lot of home movies are made in a great avi quality.

Thankx a lot.
