I can download 2 tinystock firmwares for my KISS DP500:
1: Official tinystocks firmware:
KiSS_DP-500_Firmware_2.8.0_PAL_TS.zip (12,546,048 bytes)
With Weather Manager for KiSS you can now check the latest weather conditions, 5-day weather forecast and latest satellite images on your television screen!
There is also a TV guide that can show you what is playing right now in your country. And with the IMDb feature you can query the latest movie info from the IMDb

And from this site:
2: Firmware modded by Hi-Jack:
KiSS_DP-500_Firmware_2.8.0_PAL-TS-MVr.zip (4,378,624 bytes)
with Tinystocks and Macrovision removed! Stripped from PC-Link software.

Q1: What does the removal of the macrovision mean? I thought it was a kind of protection, can someone explain this to me?
Q2: What does the stripping of the PC-link software mean? I thought that the pc link software was installed on the pc. Can someone explain this to me please?
Q3: The file size of the firwares differs quit alot (8 megs) where has it gone? Am I missing stuff I might like to have?

I kindly request someone to help me answer these questions.

Hi...

The version at TinyStocks is the original version with TinyStocks.
The version at MpegPlayer is the original version with TinyStocks and Macrovision removal. Out version is also smaller, while we removed the PC-link pc software from it.

No use in shipping that in each firmware release.

Thank you for answering Hi-Jack.
The pc-link software removal, does it affect the Kiss player or was it just ment to install it on your pc?

Thanks again

I doesn't affect on player.

The very official KiSS firmware is supposed to be also a complete Setup-CD for your player and your PC. Thanks to fclage, most of us don't need PC-Link. :D

Well, I must say that I experienced some problems with your version which forced me to power off/on (no backgrounds, no 'pointer').

Lo there frewtkeek...

That might happen with any firmware u use.
It's the "unstability of the current firmware 2.8.0" for KiSS players causing these lock-ups, not the changes we made.

And what do you mean with "no backgrounds" and "no pointer"...?
Anyone else seeing weird stuff?

yes, as i posted already in another chapter here (which you closed right after my posting!), my modded 508 had the same problems w fw 280! no frames around the icons in the menus and no action if other keys pressed, only autorun of cds/dvds did work - sometimes hangups after retourning from a kml page back to menu & ethernet hangups.
so i´m using the 500 fw 280 and the player is (without hdd) working perfectly. waiting for the fw after 280 for 508!
cheers.

Hey lxb...

We know there are many issues with dp-508 2.8.0 but what we are talking about is the fact that he thinks it's due to our version with MVr and TinyStocks.

The problems are known with DP-508 2.8.0 firmware...

I doubt adding Macrovision removal and Tinystocks has anything to do with any of the problems reported.

I will verify this again tonight on some little testing.
In the mean time, if anyone else wants to report something, now is the time... :-)
