Tweakers.net has published a review about the new Boxee
http://tweakers.net/reviews/1908/all/d-link-boxee-box-een-markante-verschijning.html

Unfortunately the review is in dutch, but google translate actually does a pretty good job in making it 'readable' if you understand 'googlenglish' :)

I was looking forward on the Boxee, because it uses an Atom CPU and is based on XBMC. I like the idea of a good looking and small media player that is fast and uses open source software. It also isn't that expensive at all for an Atom based product compared to others.

Anyone here has got their hands on a Boxee yet?

I ordered one yesterday and i'm looking forward to test it :)
There's actually a lot of reviews in english all around...Reviews are rather negative but I think the team is very responsive and that the box will become a must have..well i hope so :)

I found out you can actually turn a pc into a boxee. I'm gonna try that out first.

Not yet. Will be januari I guess. All out of stock here.
Price of the first batch was too high anyway. 199 dollar
would be around 175 euro, they asked from 220 and upwards.
I will hang on a little longer....but I will get it for sure.

Cheers

We'd love to make one... we didn't get a unit so far...
Maybe time to start hunting :-)

I wonder if the Atom Based media players will pump out better pictures than Sigma based players. Looks like ACRyan has already announced Fluxx to compete with Boxee: www.acryan.com/fluxx. Specs looks like it leapfrogs Popcorn.

I have had the Box one day. Returned it the next day.
The latest firmware had telnetd removed. This tendency for
closing down the Box by the developers did it. Among other things:

- noisy fan (uncontrolable)
- apps are US oriented
- 3rd party repositories are (still) few and uninteresting
- scraper not accurate and not selectable
- no dutch gui
- internet browser was not so good

Very much liked the remote control though.

Perhaps one day if XMBC will be available for it or other custom firmware.

Cheers

I saw the IOMEGA BOXEE in action at their booth at CES 2011 Las Vegas this past weekend - GUI looks exactly the same as D-Link's BOXEE BOX... even funnier was the fact that IOMEGA's booth was RIGHT NEXT to D-Link's Booth. I also spoke to the BOXEE Developer there and he told me that they are looking to have BOXEE on all media players with Intel CE 4100 series chipset - which is also the minimum hardware requirement.

He also stated
No Boxee for RISC processors like Sigma Designs.

Not entirely true, boxee is based on XBMC and they are partnering up with Sigma to port XBMC over to the Sigma chips.
Sigma has also expressed an interest in working directly with XBMC (http://xbmc.org/theuni/2011/01/12/more-about-sigma/)
