Hi!

I've got Dune Hd Lite and it doesn't play DIVX 5.
I've sent and email to Dune support and they've told me: "This codec is unsupported by Lite53D model"
I thought all Dune Hd supported the same codecs. I asked if it's going to be fixed but I didn't get any answer.
Anyone with the same problem?

Thanks!

Hi!,
I don't see where it says that this codec is not suported.
Checking the specifications, they're the same as any other Dune HD:
Video codecs: MPEG2, MPEG4, XVID, WMV9, VC1, H.264; support for very high bitrate video (up to 50 MBit/s and higher)

http://dune-hd.com/hd_players/current/135-dune-hd-max.html
http://dune-hd.com/hd_players/current/134-dune-hd-smart-b1.html

thanks!

Well, you're right. It doesn't especify DIVX5, but neither DIVX 6, 3, etc...and it supports them, as they are MPEG4 (supported by Dune).
My DuneLite only support BD disk with an external drive.

Hi!

They are not right. The support of DivX5 video codec disappeared only in last 2 firmwares.
I hope not deliberately and only by oversight of Dune programmers.

I have tested following ones on my Dune light:
Version "110606_1315" (the latest stable version) - does not support DivX5;
Version "110511_2007_beta" (BETA version) - does not support DivX5;
Version "110225_1222" - no any issues with playing DivX5.

So, I had to downgrade my box from 110606_1315 to 110225_1222 as DivX5 codec for me is more important than this new shiny interface.

thanks for the testing, it's good to know. Do you know if it happens only with Lite 53D model or with all models?
I think we all should report this to support@dune-hd.com , but not very sure if we'll get a feedback.

Only with Lite 53D.

Apparently the problem can be sorted out. I discovered that Lite can still play DivX5 encoded files. Seems to there is bug with checking of FourCC code.

Download AVC FourCC Code Changer: http://www.fourcc.org/changer/avic100.zip

Open your DivX5 video file in the software and change "FourCC Used Codec" from DX50 to DIVX or DIV5. You can leave old "FourCC Description".

Open modified (just 4 bytes!!!) video on latest firmware of Dune and surprise - now this file is fully supported by your box!

I hope this bug will be fixed in next firmware.

wow, I must say you're doing a great job!
It only takes a second to change the file and it works!
Only expecting for Dune developers to be aware of this and make a firmware update.
Thanks again for the info!

I've got a couple of movies which won't work with the Dune 53D Lite.

They are xvid avi files.

When i load them into AVC FourCC both boxes say Xvid. I'm using the latest firmware.

Any Suggestions?

No idea; so far, I've never had any problem with xvid codecs...sorry

Managed to sort this as it was a stupid error by myself.

I had changed the security on my NAS and the Dune was unable to read the video files de to the permissions. God knows why it was saying format not supported. Tried a read test and got permission denied which helped me realise what it was.

The patch for new firmware 111122_0159_beta is available here: DivX5 enable (http://dune.do.am/dune_service_enable_divx.dsf)

Tested OK, enjoy ;)

I've just updated to 111122_0159_beta firmware and installed the divx enable patch..it works! great! ;)

To install the patch is the same as updating the firmware: copy the file to an usb memory, conect it to the dune player, execute it from the browser (sources).
Firstable, you need to uptdate to 111122_0159_beta firmware (http://dune-hd.com/firmware/hdlite_53d/) and then intall the patch.

Is it possible to uninstall the patch and how ? Just in case ?

All the patch does is create a file /config/rs/dxe.txt with a single character "1".

To uninstall the patch, you can telnet to your Dune (http://scottjohnson.org/wiki/Dune/Hacking) and delete it.

Thanks ScottJ97, simple and clear answer. I suppose a factory reset or a firmware update also delete the patch ?

In the same way, do you know how to remove the HD sound patch ( I own a HD-301 now ) ?

Not sure about the factory reset or firmware update.

The HD sound patch creates a similar file /config/rs/ads.txt.
