Hi Everyone,

Excellent site! One of the best I have ever seen made by users, for users!

After following for a pretty long time the development of this kiss player, I have finally purchased DP-500 now. I still have a lot to try out so I won't bother you with lots of questions at the moment.

There is, however one question that is bothering me. I have a PC with DVB-T connected with it (Nebula Electronics - USB version Digital TV receiver for PC). I used it for recording the TV shows directly in the Program stream mode. Sometimes I convert them to the DVD using various SW for editing. But still there are lots of programs (half hour shows or talk programs) that I don't want to burn as DVD. I used to watch them directly from the PC. I have recently moved and my PC is still in the box because first I have to finish the construction of the whole upstairs where the "Multimedia center" is going to come. So now my question is if it is possible to just draw a cable to some corner without monitor and keyboard/mouse etc. and take that PC in use now and stream the recorded shows directly from the PC (running some sort of link SW - either PCLink or EzLink) to the TV using the Kiss? ONLY if this is possible, I will start the project of setting this up. Has anyone tried it? The streams recorded by Nebula are PS format and they are basically MPEG2 streams with .mpg extension. The hesitation is because of the construction work upstairs. I can't have the PC and other stuff around it so well protected from the dust etc. So if I don't have to have Monitor, keyboard and all the other stuff setup all the time in order to use this PC then I can arrange the place from some hidden corner downstairs now. With the Nebula I have possibility to select a standard directory to which it will record everything. And I can operate that PC over the remote connection from either work or home using the laptop.

Thanks in advance for all the comments.

Hi Hagar,

Yes it's possible with only a cable...

U need EZLink for this and on the initial setup you will have to add the keyboard, screen and mouse though...
I'm not sure if mpeg 2 files (in mpg format) will be good though...
Thos must be huge sized videofiles and max the player can handle is about 2 GB.

Set it up using EZLink's Life Folder...
It refreshes everytime you select it on your Kiss player and only needs a network connection to Kiss.
It can even be in Locked mode (2000/xp) since it's a service running (Pro Version). Just make sure you do not log off, and it will run everytime...

Otherwise, if you don't want to keep your machine running day and night, you can set auto login option enabled and auto startup ezlink. Stille need to attach Keyboard then since it will detect it on startup and give errors...

Hope this set's you up in the right direction.

Have fun!
Come back if you need more info.

Thank you for the reply HiJack!

I downloaded EzLink and installed it yesterday (to my laptop at the moment, just to do the initial testing). Then I copied a couple of files here and declared that folder as live. I also had some other mpeg files in the same directory. Now when I select those "ordinary" mpeg files, it just starts to play them in the right side pane. Those are the files downloaded from internet (small fun clips or trailers etc.). But when I select those files that the DigiTV has recorded on the hard disk, the program tries to "chew" it for couple of minutes and then shuts down on it's own!

Those mpeg2 files I'm talking about are real MPEG2 encoded video files in the Program Stream type. Basically you can even author a DVD out of it using some authoring application. The application will just create .vob files and some other compulsory stuff around it. There are some faulty GOP structures in those files sometimes because of data drops in the air interface over which the TV is transmitted. But I will try to run them through some program (like PVAstrumento for example) and then try again today. I have still not connected this laptop to the Kiss player yet because I will need to setup the LAN too before that. So I don't yet know if it will directly work in the Kiss. One thing that I could try is burning those files to the CD and try to play.

Hi Hagar,

I doubt Kiss will be able to play the files then...
If you change them to DVD .VOB files it should work.
Remember, when trying in Kiss EZLink, the codecs from the cpu are used.
When streaming to KISS the codecs from Kiss are used to play the file.
.VOB files are big so while transferring them to Kiss might have some hick-ups...

If there's any way you can record streams straight to DIVX (avi) it would solve all your problems and play fine on the Kiss if u use a Kiss supported version of Divx (Up to v5), you would gain a lot of space since the files are much smaller and the loss of quality is considerable low.

Unless you want to write it to DVD's later, i guess that's the best option to go for...
