hi,

dracula is based on the last release candidate. which is 2.8.1.
between there and 2.8.3 only the versionnumber has changed.

A 2.8.3 with dracula will be availible here soon.

Must be abug... :-)
It's pre release we worked on a couple of days ago.

We vouch for not releasing anything to the public untill the final release is there but we do keep the freedom to work and test severely on pre releases.

We compaired and found no changes in the Firmware exept the version number changed. (maybe a few minor things but overall the same things are fixed and working fine)

Another Drac version will be available in a couple of days probably.

bugs @dracula version (2.8.1):

no time on display when watching SVCD
freezes when watching SVCD

all other works great!!!
maybe its the 2.8.1 version that causes the bugs...

Hey Smax...
Checked it against 2.8.3 version...
These where bugs thqt existed in previous versions too...

We'll find out but would be good if you could test it with the movies thqt you experienced the problems.

(i doubt Displqy errors hqve to do with FTP mod :-) )

Let me know, or better, post it in this thred:

After the upgrade my HD (30Gb WD) in my modded DP-508 is very slow, and unusable for anything :( .
After selecting HD and for instance video it takes forever befor you see the contents of the video folder. I used Dracula's mod (BTW keep up the good work Dracula!!).
Under 2.7.4 it was OK.

Any other folk with the same problem

I think this might not be an error but works as designed. KiSS has done a lot of tweaking and enhancements on controlling of the harddrives.
Maybe it is because of that adjustments.
did you flash back so that you can confirm that it is not a problem of eg. the ide cables used?

- Fixed Hard Disk Read/Write Problem

If they fixed the problem....
WHAT IS THIS?!?

/ # dmesg
hdb: dma_intr: bad DMA status (dma_stat=16)
hdb: dma_intr: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }

I'm not really sure they solved the whole problem yet...
Hi-Jack, Dracula, what do you think about this?

Dagobert

Hi AK,

Yes I did flash back to 2.7.4. and then it works fine. :(

Hi-Jack

The copy part to disk is fixed.
It might still give some DMA errors but the files are no longer corrupt as far as we could test up to now...

Mass test will prove this in the future...

Hi AK,

I read on the buglist for the 2.8.3 that the modded rev B players do recocgnize the HD. Mine is a modded Rev.B and the HD is very slow.
As I stated before: I flashed back to 2.7.4 and all works fine again.

Kind regards,

Dagobert

Hi Dagobert (uit Nederland, ja ik spreek je taal)

Try to reinitialise the disk with the new firmware.
The drives for steering the disks have been changed.
Maybe the wdd has a problem with that.

For 30 GB this can't be such a hard problem for loosing data and it will be copied back in not time since the supported speed is at 1.4000 Kbps...

Let me know if it works out.

Hi-Jack,

thanks for the respons. I will try to do this tonight. I'll let you know what happens.
One question though: reinitialize the HD. Does that mean Earasing the HD in the Player or take it out, Fdisk it, and put it back in?

Kind regards,

Dagobert

Hi-Jack

It means erasing it in the KiSS.
Just try doing it within the menu from KiSS.

If it does not help, you will have to take it out, delete all the partitions, put it back in and let KiSS initiate the disk again.

Hi-Jack,

I reinitialized the HD but it is still very slow. When I load MP3 over SmartFTP it does this with 1400Kb/sec BUT when it has downloaded one song and goes to the next it takes a long time :( .
Then, on playback, it takes a long time for the songs to be listed (I had only downloaded 3 songs for test this test) and then it plays 6~7 seconds, then stops for a long time and plays 6~7 secs again

Seems 2.8.3 is not a big improvement for me

More tips/solutions would be helpfull!!

Kind regard,

Dagobert

Seems like the new way of the drivers is not so good for you...
I can't realy give any good advice from here but as it seems the copy from PC to KISS goes wel. (1400 Kbps)

The KiSS is doing this then and only thing i can come up with is that it can't handle your disc anymore after the changes.
Try another disc or stick with older firmware for now...

(Samsung Spinpoint 80GB is the best choice)

Hi-Jack,

thnx for your input.
I replaced the WD HD with a Baracuda IV (40G) which I had in my PC as a second HD.
This one seems to work OK :P So I'm happy again. :P :P :P
Final testing still in progress.

Thanks again for you help and quick responses! :D

Kind regards,

Hi-jack,

one question: this Samsung Spinpiont 80G, 5400 or 7200 RPM's and 8 or 2 Mbytes of cache memory?

I will buy this disk tomorrow (if I can find the time).

Thanks and kind regards

Jo...

The original Samsung disk in KiSS players is the Samsung Spinpoint SV0802N HDD.
http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/SpinPointVSeries/HardDiskDrive_SpinPointVSeries_SV0802N_sp.htm

That would be the best choice to avoid any surprises and it's fast enough for the purpose.

What a service... 8)

as long as the files are not corupted there is no problem.
and yes It proves that the dma of the chip is not stable, but when the software does for example a "re transmission" of the packet when dma status is bad.
the problem clould be sollved and it looks like thats what they did.

HI-Jack,

hopefully my last post on this issue.
I tried a Seagate Baracuda IV (40GB).
This one worked fine but turned out to have some bad sectors (this gives some strange results when using SmartFTP).
So in the end I went to Al***nate this afternoon, bought a Samsung Spinpoint SV0802N and now all seems to be working fine   .

Thanks again for your help: keep up the good work. This forum and the enthousiasme of the people in modding and perfecting this player made me buy one!!.

Kind regards,

Dagobert
