Well, i don't know if this is the best place to post it .. but i'm getting the error code 15 all the time. i've tried 2 diferent cdrw brands cdrs' .. i'm geting frustrated here.
I have one of the 2.7.4 moded firms (can't recall wich one), and no go.
Is there any forced way i can get the 2.8.3 to work? I've read about a process of puting the rom on the 2.7.4 package .. i don't mind if it will make the playr non workable, if so i can trade it.
I need sugestions please.
Thanks
Hi,
You can add the romfs to an older FW and it will work but it will result in some files missing or being older versions.
We are looking in to it with Dracula for the moment.
Just have a little patience. :-)

Upps .. the missing db deleted some posts :(
Hi-Jack .. i will wait paciently ;)
Yes it did... sad enough...
But hell, only a few posts missing, all the rest is repaired :-)
Good enough to me.
So i guess i made the same answer twice ha...
See how stable i am :-)

Ok guys this error 15 is really screwy...
I burnt 2.8.3 using method mentioned by Kiss = Error 15 (did this about 6 times now)
I downgraded to 2.7.4 Dracula Mod = Success
I retried 2.8.3 from all CD's that i previously burnt = Error 15
I upgraded to 2.8.0 Dracula Mod = Sucess
I tried the 6-7 cds of 2.8.3 Dracula Mod = Error 15
I re-burnt 2.7.4 Dracula Mod and downgraded = Success (So burner is fine)
I burnt a fresh copy of 2.8.3 Dracula Mod = Error 15
Do u think i should try Kiss's own 2.8.3 or does that have any restrictions?? Should i go for TinyStock ver 2.8.3??
You can always try the original but i think it will result in error 15.
The Tinystocks versions are made by me (signed Hi-Jack :-) ) so yes, try them.

Was not sure about original version so went for TinyStock and it worked first time....
So thanks :)
Hey Farhada..
As another test, try this:
http://www.mpcclub.com/modules/Downloads/modfirm/test/KiSS_DP-508_Firmware_2.8.3_FTP_Dracula_PAL_hj.zip
Let me know.
If this does not work, u can use another Dracula version with FTP and all in without CRC check :-)
It's available now but first try this one.

Huuuu ... without the crc check .. gona try that one when i get home.
Thanks a lot guys! (lets hope it works)
I removed the post by accident :-)
Damn, so many things to do at the same time... :-)
This one is based completely on DP-2.8.3 and not on a previous one.
I'd love you to try, if it fails, it will not overwrite the previous one :-)
Let me know.

My DP-508 still has cranky uploads when uploading with FTP.
Uploading just stops after about 450 Mbs (SmartFTP says that the host closed the connection due to a timeout), so I guess this is
OPEN! = Not fixed
  :x :?
The network drops are not fixed indeed but the hdd copy is fixed.
2 different things.
AK will add it to the list :-)

Hello hu-jack. In my mod. kiss 508 with new firmware modified by dracula 2.8.3 now is all ok. Dvd, vcd and svcd are ok, no freeze. The transfer with smartftp now is very fast, 1200-1330 kb and the file in hard disk is ok. Well done.
Great news popperone...
By the way, the name is Hi-Jack :st: haha!

Hey all,
I got some interesting results om some tests I ran.
(all on 1 CD-RW)
1. I burned the original firmware and flashed --> okay
2. I burned the Dracula-firmware and flashed --> number 15
3. I burned the original firmware and flashed --> number 15
4. I formatted the CD-RW and burned the original firmware --> okay
5. I formatted the CD-RW and burned the dracula firmware --> OKAY :D
I used a 'full format'
I use Alcohol 120% (http://www.alcohol-software.com/) using the default 'generic protected CD'-template. (this forces a RAW burn)
It does still however show firmware 2.8.1  whilst the original firmware shows 2.8.3. I know it's the same version, but it the thought that counts ;-)
Cheers !! :D
Interesting results, could this be something to do with the base EPROM/firmware chips and the way they read Bootable CD's, or just related to the firmware and how it tries to verify firmware update and failes due to CRC check?
OPEN: strange symbols on LCD display in st-by mode
(between the first and the second "-")
I did recognize one problem. When I'm watching DIVX movies from harddisk and perform a FF/RW I've to press Pause and then play again to get the movie starting again. If I do so, the KiSS skips a bit of the movie, just about a second I believe.
Anybody did see this too? :?:

I think it's normal, ff/rew jumps from a I-frame to the next...

Might be, but is it also normal that I've to pause before I can go on watching? No, for sure not.
is anybody able to confirm this bug?

Well just to let all of you guys, and im sure U guys already do know and that this is not required. but just in case.
The reason why it might skip is because of the way DivX and XviD are encoded with i-frames at regular intervals and then encoding based on i-freames to reduce space taken. For example if we take a 10 second Iframe slot, never that much but its best for simplicity:
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-10
the entire contents of the screen is refreshed at point 1 and then coding only makes changes to the pixels that change from 1 to 10 at which point a new iframe is created. So inbetween iframes there is never an entire data set to recreate the entire screen and so when u fast forward and it lands inbetween the iframes, most often then not, it has to locate the previous iframe, load the data and then playback at fast rate from that iframe to the frame that u are on and then start to display, at which point it must also make sure that the audio is also sync'd.
Yes i know some will say, b-frames, and those help, but it still needs to calibrate the data based on the previous iframe and then come to the point in time were u have stopped.. So if you FF/RWD and it takes time or sometimes shows funny display, its cos the reader has messed up.
Hope that helps, and i didnt mean to offend anyone inteligence by saying this and may not be entirely consise. Just trying to help understand that it is a lenghty process and hence the delay/errors some get.
Hey Hi-Jack, can we make a little more room on the QandA section that u sent me to change to add these things and explain them so that it can be understood that these things taking time is not necessarily a fault of the player, but rather the fault of complex things that have to be done...
I dont know, it only a suggestion, but i think it would be good to have them rather than having it repeated endlessly on the forums, u know a kind of a "Here look this is y it is happening, this is a much better explanination that i can give" thing...

You can search by B-Frames (and P-Frames too) but because it's a diff frames you have to have original I-Frame stored in memory and then perform on it all operations "prescribed" by B and P frames , but in KiSS case I think player does not have enough memory to store the "work buffer" :(
So it's OK now , but what looks strange is why KiSS software start playback from the next I frame and not the one you pressed Play on (the one on the screen when you pressed play).

But your wellcome to do so if you become a moderator...
We need some more hands to help out, making everything better...

I'm running ET's Beta 2.8.3 on my modded 508.
I have a DVD+R with the Indiana Jones Trilogy. Every movie is in a subdirectory.
When I insert this disk the Kiss tells me something like "this disk contains no playable files".
Is that normal? I mean I can also scan the HD for subdirectories so why is this DVD not recognized?
I'm very curious.
Kind regards,
Dagobert
P.S. The disk is OK because the DVD rom player in my computer can read it.

My gues that your files is in .OGM , ASF , WMV or MTK format , KiSS can't play them , only AVIs and MPEGs , so it even can't see.
Generaly it can see files in folders OK.
Hi Lord_Kiron,
The files are normal DiVX files. I've made these files myself and tested them one by one on a DVD+RW in this Kiss player (back then it was running 2.7.4). When all checked out fine I burned the on a DVD+R.
So I still do not understand. These files should be playable on the Kiss (as I stated: I played the before).
Kind regards,
Dagobert
I just downgraded to 2.7.4 and then my "Indiana Jones" DVD is read just fine. I see three subdirectories with the AVI's in them and they play fine.
I upgraded to ET's 2.8.3 again and the disk does not work anymore.
This looks like a 2.8.3 bug ?!
Any others with simular experiences?
Kind regards,
Dagobert
Yes I got the same problem I the dvd doesn't find any divx files anymore
K...
Could you try the same disk with any other version 2.8.3 before we say this is an error in the FW.
That will give us something to build on.

May be disks are recorded in UDF mode and ET/Big or may be even KiSS accidently forgot to add/enable UDF support in this one ?
added as an unconfirmed bug.

With NTP clock turned off none of those...[/b]
Hi-Jack,
in the buglist it says "try to set the switchport of the KiSS DVD player to 100 Full Duplex".
Can you tell me how I can do this?
Kind regards,
Dagobert
Hi Dagobert,
That's only an option on more advanced switches and different for all types.
You will have to check the manual if it supports settings for the ports...
GrEeTz
Hi Dagobert,
this is normally a feature that is not supported by cheap switches.
Normally these switches are called manageable. On that switches you can set the speed of all ports. You need such a switch to use this workaround.
cu ak.
When I'm watching jpegs, after a certain time the display goes dark green and only a power cycle fixes it. I haven't worked out yet whether it's time or particular files that trigger the change. The colour change effects all functions of my 508 player with 8.3 firmware (I had the same problem with 8.0)
Hi brbc,
it would be important to check if it's files or time...
If it's a file, it's probably a missing bit in a picture turning the KiSS green...
I don't see how time can cause this and have never heard of it from anyone else...
Might also be that the media used is damaged somehow...
Realy necessary to find out...
GrEetz
You're right, of course. But the player should be able to recover from it without a power cycle. All it would need to do is reset its palate between pictures (or whatever the equivalent is). Or even reset it on leaving that menu option.
Brian
We, and KiSS is aware of this bug.
Might be fixed in any of the next release...
I have a chat with them by the end of the week to check up on some things...
This will be one of them...
HI lennard,
It's known.
This is usually caused after playing a xvid movie too...
Will be addressed in the future firmware somehow...
Dunno if it's on the list yet, if not, you might add it... :-)
thx

Just started to create a new bug database , so all users please report and confirm bugs starting from fw version 2.8.0 and 2.8.3 for DP-508.
Bugs reported here should be about ORIGINAL firmware only.
For the ones that did not know...
Lord_Kiron has agreed to help us out with this section beside the help he was already offering.
It's time to make some decent lists all together.
@ Lord_Kiron, you can delete this complete post after you gathered the info you need and maybe start a complete new topic.
Easier to read...
You are the chief :-)
Thanks for this!

I have the 2.8.3 ET in my modded 500 -> 508
Harddisk is seagate barracuba 7200.7 120Gb
And divx 3.11 freezes (I feel like returning on the first firmware
of my dp-500)
Has anybody else this bug ?
Some bugs in clock (sometimes two clocks on display)
FTP is bugging two : when transfering two files the second will
fail because directory access problem.
