Yesterday I upgraded the DP500 (B/B) with a Maxtor 80gB disc (slave) and all seems to work pretty good.
But only the FTP does not work
FTP 192.168.0.2 answers in DOS "unknown fault number"
Bulletproof FTP answers with "connection refused"
Also telnet does not answer.
The PC has IP 192.168.0.3
Kiss = 192.168.0.2
In the menu
own IP 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
DHCP disabled, but also with enabled no FTP
Software is dracula 2.8.3 FTP PAL
FTP = Login anonymous
Network 100 MB
What is going wrong here, I am really looking forward for FTP !
Hi,
Could be the disc you chose...
Try copying a movie from the dvd in the KiSS to the KiSS hdd and see if it works first.
Your setup would be important too...
Cross Link or switch/router?

Copying from CD/DVD to harddisc no problem.
Copying from EZlink goes fine, unless very large directory structures (multiple GBytes)
Hell link even better, no errors.
I changed back to DHCP because with the settings I gave earlier no internet connection (webradio) could be made, althoug the hell & EZlink did work!
Network is connected to the internet with a ISB2LAN (internet sharing) box and all linked together with a new switch, also tried a HUB but also no FTP to the kiss
I (you never know for sure) turned the windows XP firewall off.
Also from a second PC on the network no reply when entering FTP 192.168.0.2 in a DOS box.
All the same answers, no reply from server.
Procedure:
Burn the firmware with NERO
Load CD, turn off & on kiss DP500 (508)
Total update, turn off & on
Enter IP number PC running Hell of EZlink
Switch on DHCP
Just in case switch off / on kiss again wait 'till ready
On PC 192.168.0.3, run/cmd/ftp 192.168.0.2 (error message)
On PC 192.168.0.3, run bulletproof FTP (port 21 / anonymous) error message
On PC 192.168.0.3, open explorer, enter ftp://192.168.0.2 (error message)
I really don't understand!
Is the FTP running on port 21, or 8000 ?
Is the user anonymous ?
And the telnet, port 23 ?
Strange thing is that when I turn off the DHCP and enter manually the right (i think, see above) numbers, I can connect to the PC but not to the internet . .
Hi-jack, thanks for your answer :D , do you have more info on this ?
I'm realy starting to think it's the Maxtor disc that's is somehow causing this trouble.
Not all HDD drives work good in a KiSS player.
FTP is on port 21
Anonymous
Use Smartftp :-)
Do you have any firewall setup on your systems (connection refused)?
Disable it then and try again.
192.168.0.1 means you enabled internet sharing.
Good, set KiSS DHCP to "on" even if you don't have DHCP and try connecting to the internet.
For the connections test, try to ping from pc to KiSS, response or time-outs?
For telenet, don't enter any port.
Just use telnet 192.168.0.2
As a final thing, try connecting KiSS with Cross cable and do the same tests.
That's about it with what i can come up with.

Hi ! Jack !
I have changed the HDD for an old one (maxtor 5400 rpm / 80Gb) and the clean disk failed the first time, and also second etc. So I took a ATX-PSU (PC power supply) to connect to the HDD and now FTP does work.
Its a bit of a strange thing. The new maxtor HDD had a low current (5V 670mA and 12V 960 mA). To compare with the original (?) 508 disc (spinpoint) Current (max.) 670 / 2390 mA. I would say Maxtor beats spinpoint !
So why does Maxtor not work with FTP, but all other functions are supported. Strange. maybe someone knows ?
Anyway, thanks for your support again, nice to have a response in such a short time !
Hey man,
We know that not all disks are supported in the KiSS.
Depends on the disks features like DMA, Caching etc...
If the power is insuffucient, off course it won't work either...
We always advice to use Samsuns Spinpoint or WD800BB since those are the ones we tested deeply for working correct.
