TV tuner type on DP 558

Hi,

I' m very happy to learn that DP 558 will coming soon (end of 02/2004) but i have just on doubt about the TV tuner.

I leave in France where the TV programs are in SECAM and i want to know if the DP 558 can record SECAM TV programs. I'm sure for PAL and NTSC but SECAM?????

Hi Halford,

A little info first:
NTSC
NTSC is an acronym for National Television System Committee.
This system is used in US and Canada.

PAL
PAL is an acronym for Phase Alternating Line.
This system is used in most of Western Europe and in Australia.
Apart from the main PAL standard, two variations exist:
PAL-N (a "hybrid" between PAL and SECAM) and PAL-M (Monochrome - a "hybrid between NTSC and the European PAL system). Most PAL-N VHS machines are capable of playing standard PAL recordings, making conversion unnecessary.

SECAM
SECAM is an acronym for Sequential Couleur Avec Memoire (Sequential Color with Memory).
This system is used in France and Eastern Europe.

Most systems stating it's PAL are actualy PAL-N (so secam supported)

Actually France uses some weried ? type of SECAM (I believe it called SECAM-L) that unlike SECAM in Western Europe and some Middle East countries (Hi-Jack,no, not the accent :) ,PAL here) and unlike PAL uses inverted brightness signal so picture become negative.

However most of the new hardware can handle it so I think that if KiSS can handle NTSC :) they will add support for french SECAM as well.
But I do recommend to buy you player (or should I say recorder :) ) in France - just in case :).

So officialy verified:

Answer From KiSS Tech:
The Secam standard is almost the same as Pal.
Just the colour information sequentially.

The DP-558 will be able to use secam, Ntsc and pal. ;o)
