Does anyone here have problems with the DP-500 digital out?
I couldn't find any reference about my problem in the forums so I e-mailed my problem to KISS.

My own e-mail:

Hi,

I have a problem with my digital-out on my KISS DP-500.

When I use SPDIF coaxial OR optical on my receiver the sound quality is
really bad (clicks, distortion etc..)

I've tried almost anything except using another receiver cause I haven't
got one.

It only affects the digital outputs because when I use the normal Analog
out with the red/white cable the sound quality is good.

Could this be a firmware problem? Is this a hardware problem (in another
words.. could there be a defect in my kiss player) ?

I really would like to use digital output to watch DVD's.

Dear Sir

We are aware of the problem with the kliks in the sound it is a small
error in the SPDIF stream and we have a suspicion that the error is in
the Sigma chip. We hope to get this fixed with a firmware update. We are
workin on it.

As they say, they are aware of this problem.
Try using 2.8.3 for DP-508 on the DP-500 and see if it's fixed.
(don't think so)

if not, nothing much you can do but wait for a fix and use other sound options for now.
Sorry...

Hi bs & Hi-Jack,

I have experienced same kind of problems, in a smaller amount though. My player clicks and rattles while playing mp3s, in between two tracks. I've thought that maybe there's something wrong with the mp3 extraction, since it makes no difference wheter I use digital output or not. Still, nothing wrong with the sound as I listen same tracks with my computer - that makes me think theres something wrong with the way Kiss handles audio files.

I hope there's some kind of a fix coming soon - this is a pretty annoying feature. (Starts to feel like there's more trouble with my player than joy.. )

P.S. Otherwise, digital sound seems to work just fine for me. (I use Alesis ProActive 5.1 as my sound system and FW 2.8.3 from dracula.)
