This could also be at the news section, maybe Hi-Jack,or Big can do something about that, because it has to do with a codec and not with a firmware or any other specific player model.
Well let me start, Lately there seem to be many new movies/videos made with the new xvid codec which isn't compatible with any Divx certified player. Those movies stack with a black screen when you try to play them on the player at 00:00:00.
When you look at the files with the GSpot at the user data/metadata section you can see the following:

[ISFT] Nandub v1.0rc2
[JUNK] Nandub build 1852
[JUNK] release
[USER] DivX503b1393p
[USER] XviD0039
[USER] DivX503b1393p

The problem from what I found is these 2 lines (([USER] DivX503b1393p))
Now what you havwe to do is open with Mpeg4 modifier the movie and at the user data section select the "DivX503b1393p" line and edit it into "DivX999b000p". Now save the file and play it in your Kiss certified player.
The new file now should give this info with the GSpot:

[ISFT] Nandub v1.0rc2
[JUNK] Nandub build 1852
[JUNK] release
[USER] DivX999b000p
[USER] XviD0039
[USER] DivX999b000p

I know this should work because I had about 8 movies with the same problem that now play flawlessly.

From what I found/read at the XviD 1.1 beta 2 changelog this change was made for better combatibility with Divx certified DVD players, I am now sure that something went wrong. See for yourself taken from the changelog:

xvidcore
* divx userdata string: s/DivX999b000/DivX503b1393. this has been suggested by dxn for improved hardware compatibility [nb: i dont have a hardware player to confirm this]

I hope I helped some of you, if you use to download movies/videos from the net I am sure you must have come into this problem.

Great...
One more tip that saves the day :-)

... moreover if you install the latest patch for the AutoGK (2.09b), it does the trick automatically for you :) (but do not forget to uninstall your old XviD codec first!!!)

Who uses Nundub anyway ? especially with new codecs ...

Which soft did you use to modify the 2 lines in question?

Hi-Jack

MpegModifier :-)

This is not for nandub or VirtualDubMod or virtualdub or gordianknot or autogk, but it is for the new Xvid codec ,get it., and for the movies that have the 2 specific lines and don't play at the Kiss or any other Divx certified player.
Those 3 lines could be anything depending the program that was used:

[ISFT] Nandub v1.0rc2
[JUNK] Nandub build 1852
[JUNK] release

That was an example ok!!!

nice, let's hope kiss wil pick up the other xvid error and we're one step closer
to a nice machine

My file starts with:

[ISFT] VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 (build 2439/release)
[JUNK] VirtualDubMod build 2439
[JUNK] release
[USER] XviD0035
[USER] XviD0035
[USER] XviD0035

Should luckys hint to overwrite the 4th and 6th line with
[USER] DivX999b000p
work for XviD0035 as well as for XviD0039?

luckys

PatPowerMan, No I don't think this fix should work in any other situation or problematic files. Sorry but your file must have some other reason for not playing. I believe I was precise about what files/movies and problems are fixed by this way.

Anyone told the xvid developers this, since it seems they made it to make xvid more compatible with standalone players but it dont seem to work, they might consider changing it back.

I tried 5 episodes from SF-serie  . No - it doesn't work. All 5 movies are still stuttering.

Another case for the bugtracker - or is XviD a not supported codec?

Domin
29-06-05, 20:38
Well, XviD is supportede, but if the XviD developers change the codec, you hardly can blame KiSS for not supporting it.

Anyone in touch with the XviD developer crew, perhaps we shouldt ask them why they changed it before we make kiss change something???

Just to help clear this up, the code in question ([USER] DivX503b1393p) indicates the presence of the "packed bitstream" format. To be precise, it is the "p" at the end that signifies this.

If you have a file that includes a tag that starts with "divx" and ends with "p" there is an easy solution to make it more compatable: undo the packed bitstream.

To do this, use the program MPEG4Modifier (requires .NET). Simply open the file with M4M, check the "unpack" box, then save the file. The resulting file will very likely work with your KISS player without stuttering.

Hope this is useful!

As a newbie here with my kiss player and a bundle of XviD movies that just wont have it at all on my kiss player - the 00:00:00 and the black screen!

I am trying to get an answer to the problem of trying to play these files. I seem to spend more time using 'Dr.Divx' to encode the entire movie - and then about 1 in 8 will give a lip sync problem!

Is this Xvid problem just a case of changing a couple of lines of text within an Xvid movie to make it play on the kiss player? Or is it a total encoding effort? or something else? After reading all the posts on this topic for the past six months I am no nearer the truth and am now ready to bludgeon myself to death with all my coffee coasters manufactured by Datawrite! A newbie guide on the various problems would be very helpful indeed to clear up this mess - if their is an answer that is?

Seems I'm having the same XviD "Unsupported codec" problem with all new files I have.
But I guess it won't work with this file, huh?!

[ISFT] VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 (build 2366/release)
[JUNK] VirtualDubMod build 2366
[JUNK] release
[USER] XviD0036
[USER] XviD0036
[USER] XviD0036

Btw...When I first got this problem, I found this threat, and I gave it a try. But the file I was testing this with had allready DivX999b000p in it, so I guess it's not working in all cases to change to DivX999b000p, since that file didn't play as well.
I even tried changing it to DivX999b000n to make it show it didn't have a packed stream...still didn't work.

Forgive my newbiness, but this trick doesn't do it for me. Does this work with all firmware versions ? I'm currently using 2.9.3
Here are the various details of a xvid i'm trying fix (it has the 00:00 freeze bug).

[ISFT] VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 (build 2439/release)
[JUNK] VirtualDubMod build 2439
[JUNK] release
[USER] DivX503b1393p
[USER] XviD0039
[USER] 2005.09.25

OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
Interleave: 1 vid frame (40 ms), preload=512
Audio frames: Split across interleaves
fps : 25

I tried to change the user line to "[USER] DivX999b000p", and i also tried the unpack method, none of them worked. Both gave me the same result : "codec is not supported ; MPEG 4 Qpel". Is there any other way besides reencoding the whole file ?

The problem and fix in this thread is not related to the QPEL problem.
Kiss players do not support encodes with the QPEL option and you have to reencode the file to remove it.
See Hijacks excellent guide for doing that very easy.

Does it mean my file actually combined the 2 faulty properties, bitstream + qpel ?
Anyway thanks for the quick answer, i know what's left to do now.

Where is that guide located?
Left menu -> Downloads -> 1st entry.
It's the normal Kiss guide.

Ah, thanks. I thought it was a loose guide somewhere :)
I've read through it...although it is easy indeed, it's not really fast.

Edit:
I use Dr.DivX myself to reencode files. Still not fast, but (even) easier.
Just enter the file, select the filesize which you want it to be, and hit the 'encode' button. Now you'll have a 2-pass encoded file with DivX5 (which works perfectly on my DP-558. 99% of my XviD files won't work in my case.)

Hi,

Is there a way to fix the xvids to 999b000p in batch mode cos I am ending up with so many that need to be done? I guess many have the same problem.

Thanks

Hi Big!
Do you have a link for this command line version and if this version run without other programs?

Cheers!

It's mentioned on MPEG4 Modifier homepage - http://www.moitah.net/ .

Namely it's called UnpackCL and it's available here - http://www.moitah.net/download/latest/UnpackCL.zip

Here is shell extension which can do mass-correction in Windows GUI:

ftp://64.34.164.24:2122/public/UnpackCL%20Shell.zip

It has also UnpackCL so you can download only latest thing for command line version and shell extension.

Hello,

I have read all aboutMEPEG4 Modifier, but i still dont know hot to correct one of my avi files.
When I load it in MPEG4 Modifier it shows me this information in USER DATA SECTION

DivX503b1393p
XviD0041

I allready tried changing DivX503b1393p to DivX999b000p bu the movie still freezes when i play it on my dp558 thru PC-link.
What else can i do...? or am i doing something wrong.

best regards

Check with GSpot which codec the file uses if it says xvid delete the
DivX503b1393p entry using Mpeg 4 modifier. I had the same problem and this seams to work..I think the kiss player gets confused which codec to use and so it doesn't play it.
