View Full Version : DVD Ripping tool
Can anyone suggest a good tool for ripping my DVD's to be read by my Snazio. DVD decrypter doesn't seem to be online anymore. And also what settings I should use on it. Thanks.
(Note my version of DVD decrypter rips all the audio streams with the movie and then the Snazio by default plays back the wrong stream.)
So you just want to play vob files with the correct audio stream?
Then DVD Decryptor is enough...
Just select the video file and the audio file you want and unselect the rest.
Yes thats correct.
I don't have it on this PC at work but what mode should I set it to IFO, ISO, File mode etc?
Enable streaming? And is it on the streaming tab where you select the audio stream? (I have a feeling I tried that but don't think it worked properly)
I know I should check out their website etc but it hasn't been working for the last few weeks - as far as I can see.
DVD Decrypter has seized to exist.
The author was forced by a seven nation army of lawyers to shut the page and the program down...
In some countries even moderating a page with this kind of discussion is illegal... even more
I have the following issues with either ripping the DVD and or playing it:
I rip the DVD with DVD decrypter which is sucessfull. Lets use The Matrix (1st one) for this example. I rip it to 1 vob file so that the Snazio doesn't pause for 2 secs between files. When I play the file over my wireless network something strange happens at 2mins 45 secs (the point at which the one guy says he's sent two units to get the girl, the other guy turns around and says "your men are already dead" - immediately after this point). At this point the Snazio plays the film in fast forward. Ironically it plays it in true smooth fast forward (not jerky like pressing the fast forward button). The sound also plays in fast forward. The only way to stop it is hitting fast forward and then play. The movie will then play normally. It seems that it something at this point 2min 45secs that causes this action, once past it the films seems to play again.
So I got on the PC and played the film using various different players and what happens on the PC is that the sound disappears at this exact point.
I ripped the DVD again (gave it a wipe) and the same occured. I downloaded another DVD ripping tool which ripped the DVD in to several vob files. When playing the relevant vob on the Snazio it goes in to Fast forward play again!
Thus I am confused! A problem with the DVD maybe? Well probably not as this also happens on Oceans 12 about half way through.
It seems to me that the DVD is not being ripped properly but I have tried to different ripping tools. Is it possible it is an error associated with the DVD drive?
(I rebuilt my PC about 3 weeks ago and since then I have noticed that DVD decrypter has run at 8x speed whereas before it was always 4.2x)
Does anyone else have the Matrix they could rip and stream to their Snazio to see if it is a specific problem to myself?
I have reinstalled DVD decrypter.
At the mo I can't rip my DVD's to play on the Snazio as they don't play properly.
Any thoughts???
I have now also tried ripping the DVD from a second DVD drive on my PC but the results are the same.
The DVD plays fine on the PC and the Snazi itself. I don't have any other options that I can think of to try. Any suggestions at all. Can someone try ripping and playing The Matrix themselves to see if it is just me or if its a Snazio problem? (Like I said its just after the police man says he has sent 2 units to pick the girl up, then it flashes to the fight scene with the girl. Play that section and it starts playing in fast forward).
I am encoding the file in to DivX also. If this encodes ok then I guess the original file is ok and the Snazi has some issues.
I'll add a post when the file has been encoded.
(Note Oceans 12 has the same problem too, so this may be a more fundamental issue with the player, or it may be an issue specific to me - but I have tried everything I can think of to resolve the issue on my PC / player).
It seemed like that you have the same problem occurring in avel linkplayer 2 as stated in this post .

Thanks for the above post. It seems that this is the answer. When ripping some of the DVD's there seems to be missing frames (either video or audio) and it is at this point that the Snazio goes in to Super Fast Forward! If you were to see this if would confirm that the new Sigma chip can fast forward in a smooth manor! - as this is exactly what happens!
The above tool takes about 10 mins to check over your Vob files and looks for these errors. It seems pretty good so far. In Oceans 12 it found 1 error and removed an audio frame to resync it with the video. This solved the point of error in the film. Likewise for The Matrix it found several errors and corrected them. There is no noticable problems with removing 1 frame here and there as it is playing 25 of them a second!
I also got it to check a few files that play ok and it found zero errors in the files as you would expect!
I'm not 100% sure why these errors occur when ripping a movie. (I tried 2 different DVD drives, 2 different ripping tools). I guess it could be a defect on the DVD itself - a scratch maybe?!
But it may be something that Snazio could look at and adjust their player to handle these errors in a better way. But there is a fix for them in the above software.
Be interesting to see if it occurs with anyone elses Matrix rip?
(I last point to add - I have not managed to find a way of this software being able to check multiple audio streams. It just uses audio stream 1. So if the DVD was ripped with 3 audio streams after the software checks the movie it only outputs the results with 1 audio. So make sure you rip the DVD in the 1st place with the appropiate (one) audio stream).

I had this problem yesterday with a film. just past 50% through it went into overdrive and smoothly fast played through.
Could do with better error compensation as mentioned above.
