View Full Version : Improper Xvid playback
Hi All,
I've three Xvid-files which give the MP3-sound but do not show video. In all case the Frame rate is 25 Frps, and the Video sample size 24 bit, and further:
:arrow: 640x464; Data rate 151 Kbps;
:arrow: 608x360; Data rate 122Kbps;
:arrow: 608x360; Data rate 99Kbps.
From the SZ1350 specifications I conclude that these files should play OK. They do on my PC with, e.g., VLC MP. Is this a known problem? I did not find a thread on it. How to fix?
Thnx i.a.: Dousa
As everyone before you, you make the same mistake.
DO NOT compare a DIVX player against a PC... we don't compare a boeing with a shopper... :-)
Check the files for Packed Bitstream and other options with MpegModifier...
From the data you gave us i can't see any issue.
I have seen this several times on some Xvid files I have.
The problem is that the Snazio can't recognize the version of the codec used to create the file. I have some files that merely play sound and others that play a still shot at the beginning and then goes to no picture but full sound. I haven't identified the exact codec, but I re-encode them and then they play.
The Snazio plays a good number of codecs, but since the codecs are being updated all the time, it runs into plenty of files that it can't parse, even if your PC player can.
Thanks, WizarDru.
I also considered re-encoding. Which tool and what settings do you use? I have TMPGenc.
I purchased River Past Video Cleaner. http://www.riverpast.com/en/prod/videocleaner/index.php
It's not great, but it's not bad. The big advantage for me is that it does batch conversions from lots of different formats. I tend to watch a lot of subtitled anime that fan groups release, and sometimes the Snazio can't play them.
The downside is re-encoding usually takes as long as actually watching the video...but I tend to set the batch convert before going to bed, and then watch stuff the next day.
I'm sure there are some freeware products that do something similar, but I haven't investigated them as much.

Well TMPGenc is only for mpeg encoding i think.
I use a VirtualDubMod (http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdubmod/) which is a modified version of VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org/).
Hi
I´m quite experienced with xvid encoding.
If i got time I will post a tutorial how to encode stuff to HQ xvid.
Probably based on HD material, but it will also work witht DVD or DVB sources.

I'd be very interested to see it, if you get the time.

Hi Mic64,
Such a tutorial would be great. I join WizarDru and look forward to it!

Hi WizarDru,
Bought the same tool. It is handy, when it works. For me the downsides are: 1. some video/audio combis seem to be incompatible, but RVC just quits without any helpful notification. 2. Up until now most resyncs result in asyncs of audio/video.
Thanks anyway: Dousa
