Just messing with the new firmware, glad to see network streaming is more stable (still some work to do here).

And good to see the 50Hz HD modes holding - unfortunately 720P @ 50Hz is badly broken. I only see the top left hand corner of the image filling the screen, with a corrupt bar down the left hand side. It's the same for the menu/browser as for DVD.

I'm playing DVI into a Hitachi 42in Plasma. 720P @ 60Hz works fine, as does 1080i @50Hz.

But I prefer the stability of a progressive image and most of my source is 50Hz. So, 720P @ 50Hz would be my ideal setting.

Gideon,

Is your Hitachi able to handle 50Hz at 720p ? I can remember an issue with especially this resolution regarding e.g. the model 55PD5200. I know this not a 42" model, however it might be worth checking for yours.

Wow, just checked the manual for my my Hitachi 42PD5000 and indeed 720P/50Hz is NOT listed under 'Recommeded Signal List'.

How odd it that - it is a European model so would assume all 50Hz modes would work. 50Hz 1080i is listed and works, so does 720P @ 60Hz so it does seem odd to miss out support for this mode.

Feeling a little gutted

Hi,

As far as I understand there are so far no HD broadcasts in 720p@50 Hz, only 60 Hz. And it is beleived that there will not be any.
Therefore Hitachi, and many others, have schosen not to support that input signal. Correct me if I'm wrong but setting the output signal tp 720p@50Hz is NOT necessary to upscale PAL material to 50 Hz?? Or?
