View Full Version : New Beta KiSS Report: HDMI Issues
Tonight we received the last Beta from KiSS before the final release. The
first thing tested was HDMI fix so the signal was no longer lost after the
player was put into Stand By. Unfortunately, we had the same issue where
the signal does not come up unless using the Setup Menu.
We found out however, when the player is set to 1080p this issue is
nowhere to be seen. Can some people confirm this and try on the current
versions of their player in different resolutions and report when it happens
and with which resolutions?
Report Test Results for:
- 1080p 50HZ
- 1080i 50HZ
- 720p 50HZ
- 576p 50HZ
- 576i 50HZ
Thx
Hi-Jack
Okay, im a bit noobie here, and i read and read and read, to try to learn something about this mashine, but where do i get this new FW beta version ???
J.R.
I can confirm, that with the original firmware the HDMI output after standby NOT retained in the resolutions:
576i
576p
720p
1080i
I can not test 1080p, because my LCD TV does not support it.
When I switch the Display Connection from HDMI to DVI, then the TV Mode selection first shows all the options for HDMI (576i,576p,720p,1080i,1080p) If I select one, only this one is remains. It seams OK, but my TV show 576p instead. When I now switch to standby and on again, the DVI connection also NOT retained. Using the setup menu I can brigt it back and the TV mode shows: "default resolution". And now comes the worst thing. I can not swith back to HDMI anymore. When I try, my TV says "unsupported". I think it is because I have to change the Display Connection and the TV Mode option at the same time, which is not possible. I have to change Display Connection to HDMI first, but then comes "unsupported". (because 1080p seams to be the default for HDMI). Even if you OK this, you can not change the TV Mode, because the options are not refreshed to HDMI options and only the "default resolution" is available. You have to switch to standby and on again, to refresh the TV Mode selection, then select 1080i (because 1080p seems to be the default). All this you have to do "blind" only using the small display on the player.
I must admit this error description is a little bit complicated, but hope someone understand it :-)

I can confirm exactly this! My screen doesn´t support 1080p either, anoying to use the little screen to set back the resolution when the player is switched off.
My screen supports 1080p so i will verify which resolutions are fixed tonight
by trying them all. I'm sure 1080p is already fixed as i tried it sa lot and
1080i is not fixed.
I will post results fro other resolutions tonight.
Please note, the first release might not have the HDMI signal fix while other
HDMI issues have been fixed. We advised KISS to release the FW with the
other fixes already and keep working on HDMI so current consumers
already have an improved product available, especially concerning WMC,
USB2 use and WMV9 playback.
We'll keep you posted.
Enjoy

Ok, seems good. Hope I can update the FW soon.
Hmm..When updating the FW, is the old configuration and settings kept?

Hi-Jack
I think to understand now, how it works. 1080p resolution should be not fixed, because this is exactly the problem: after a standby the DP-600 HDMI resolution always defaults to 1080p. If your screen supports it, you are lucky, if not - out of luck.
Don't think that is correct.
When I set DP-600 to 1080i i have the same issues as all of you.
When i set the player to 1080p, all works just fine (my TV supports it)
if it would default back to 1080p, i would not have issues.
Hello from Greece,
I first wrote on a greek forum about this player in January 2004!
Tomorrow i am going to receive my player as it finally here in Greece.
Can you please confirm me if it supports 1080p when upconverting dvd's? Νοt dvd-r or media streaming from a pc but normal, commercial dvd's...
I find it awfully strange that the 8620 Chipset supports 1080p. Sigma has said that this is not a supported resolution on the 8620. So how is it possible it works unless you have the resolutions wrong on your TV?

I think i read somewhere that KiSS used external HDMI chip for this , but again, it's on the level of rumors.
Does anyone have a photo of the motherboard and the inside of the DP-600, just to clarify which type of chipset is used. :?: :?:
The main chip is EM8620L , that is all i can see from the small openings at the side of the player....
Also they have used an ATA-33 cable for the DVD rom, shouldn't they have used an ATA-66 one ?? (just to be safe from the perfomance side??)

Getting nervous of the competition are we?
Pixel Magic Systems have also been able to put together a 8620L based player that supports 1080p.
Wrong resolutions on the TV? Come on chuna.
Get your own player ready and bug free instead of questioning other players specifications.
I know I'll buy it if it turns out to be good once it hits EU. Not in the current state though....

Could somebody let me know where i can get the Beta firmware please?
Thanks
Microcheese
You can't get the Beta FW.
This is tested internally only by KiSS and MPC.
(which is why we keep you posted :-) )
KISS is using this Silicon image chip which supports 1080p: http://www.siliconimage.com/products/product.aspx?id=15&ptid=1
Model: SiI9030

I have a DP600 with TV LOEWE XELOS A37.

Is this the chip that you are refering to?

It seems that this is the chop :))
yes, did you find another one in the DP-600? :-)
This picture is not of a DP-600, its from the mainboard of my Zensonic Z500. :)
Do you like your Zensonic ?? what are his problems , tell us ?
Does Snazio have the same chip installed???

All ???? I don't have any "artefacts" at all on 1080i

Hi all.
I tested all resolutions and only 1080p is not working and the player is behaving the same way as p0macs described. Can someone confirm that my Loewe Xelos A 26 does not support 1080p cause I did not find any reference to that in the user manual of this TFT screen....
Will there be a fix for this 1080p default settings upon standby... ? :(

There is no issue with 1080p on stqndby.
It happens to all BUT 1080p and yes, it will be fixed.
(We daily test new FW versions (beta) from KISS to scan the improvements)
About Zensonic:
It's a hell of a player with some issues being addressed. If 1.4 FW update
delivers what it promises, it will be impossible not to include it in your final
selection of a DivX player. Chuna, any new dates for EU Release? Since the
Z500 uses the same Silicon chip, would it not be possible to implement
1080p as well?

Actualy they use the EM8621L...
As far as I know the only difference between the two is that the EM8621L lacks support frot Macrovision.
Specifications on both chips are indeed the same.
If Macrovision-protected video outputs are not required (like TViX has no
DVD drive), the EM8621L may be used instead of the EM8620L.
My Pioneer 436XDE will run 1080p, but only at 25hz
Any chance we could have this res added?
Rik
I doubt it.
Usually only 50 and 60hz are supported but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
