Hi All,
Has been a little silent around DP-600 FW updates and all has to do with
me being unable to flash new Beta FW on my unit. Yet, we have some news
for you, as KiSS has announced the new FW is due next Tuesday...
Issues fixed:
* HDMI
* Stability Media Connect
* USB Speed Improvements
* Drive Noise DVD
So, less then a week away to see what KiSS delivers next!

Well I of cause can assume that this is some kind of software technology ported to ucLinux to reduce DVD drive speed and there for noise level but thats just assumption, Hi-Jack - dig more for us !;)

The only such tool available today is called setcd and sets few oparational parameters (including drive speed). Maybe it's their own new tool or maybe name if drives inside DP-6000?

Are those 4 fixes just what you have tested (confirmed) or will be?

If you search for "Geluid" you find it is a Dutch word meaning Sound. So there's your answer.
Meanwhile I keep mine switched off due to the horrible noisy DVD drive. Thinking seriously to move it to the next room ( that means an HDMI 6 mts long cable and the same for the coaxial one) :cry: :cry: :oops:
I put it in a semi-closed drawer with doors, just like my other equipment. Keeps the wife satisfied (out of sight) and keeps the noise level (which is in my case not very loud) down. Meanwhile it still gives me 98% connection strength on wireless (staircase and 2 walls in between).
In my case a safe-box needed :roll:

I would certainly hope that playback of SVCD (MPG) files is fixed as well ... it worked before the .14 upgrade so ... :twisted:

Any news on the many problems reported about DVD playback.
I am very satisfied about the DP600, because I build a movie archive, mostly with self made home video's. With a few software tools it works well on the external USB drive.
But my girlfriend only wants to use the DVD drive. Most DVD's are not played well on the DP600. I mean lost of sound, stuttering video etc. She already hates the device. And I must say, however I am a fan of Kiss, she is right. How is it possible that normal DVD playback is not working well. For a device that cost more than 300 Euro's.
At first I want to change my old DVD player, because I started to give problems with some DVD's. So I bought the Kiss DP600 and was very pleased with all the other functions. Now I must take the conclusion that my old DVD player does play DVD's better than my new Kiss DP600. And that is a conclusion I never expected.
My question is how about your tests for this problem and has this problem the attention of Kiss?
Geluid means SOUND in Dutch...

The region free will be released after the FW release.
The version number will be at least 3.0.23 or higher (current beta is 3.0.22)

i need this fix too, as none of my large HD movies works properly, stutters and crashes i hope they fix that, thats one thing i need fixing the most.

lol i have ordered a few on wmv hd but like i said before you tell me where to buy them from and i will as i prefer to have chapters on the HD movies etc...

I do not agree with you at all. Except from the DVD playback issues, the Kiss is a wonderfull device. On my USB device I manage all my pictures, my home made video's and commercial movies. This works great. I also like the webradio, that works also without any complaints.
You have the right to give your opinion on these forums, but come with facts and not with a statement without arguments. Thanks
Have to admit, after one non-functional device I am now satisfied about the player. Still some loose ends, but that can be fixed by new firmware.
PS: I would not buy a car in this state, but hey, the KiSS is only for entertainment (as is every other kiss :-) .
Can We expect KISS DP-600 FW tomorrow ?

i am regularly looking at the kiss technology website today, but i am afraid the firmware would not be released today, its taking to long
afair 3.0.14 was out at late evening (cet)... anyway... one day or two more is no big issue..

They have about 4 hours before I have to pack the unit up for a refund. But I'm not keeping my finders crossed for any audio fixes in this firmware :-(
I just hope this firmware will fix the biggest need of good dvd (HD) playback, if not i foresee a bad system that can't play as good as the snazzio 1350

Oh well, now I play the waiting game to get my money back. At least they confirmed there was a problem in email so I shouldn't have to fight too much with Komplett.

Damn , and I almost prepared to see "usual cycle" :
1. Firmware released at Friday late night.
2. A lot of happy "thank you" post for couple of days.
3. After several days slowly more and more posts from people found new bugs, things that worked before work no longer, also some disapointed posts since new firmware fixes only small part of the expected thing.
4. Wait for next firmware started ...
I so this "KiSS drill" so long over and over again with all playes so I will be really surprised to see something different this time.
We can all go back to sleep again :(
wat baskets no firmware was released today not by kiss nor hijack, empty promises, hijack wont even give us the region free codes.
Hi-Jack doesn't realease kiSS firmware, much like he doesn't release the new version of Windows.

Not very good? How about giving him a little credit for what all the work he does? And about beta firmwares, maybe KiSS doesn't want Hi-Jack to distribute beta firmwares. Why would you want them anyway.
yes and watch out if you install a beta firmware you can't remove them when you want to update with another firmware again. that problem had Hi-jack encountered too. just wait and see, why is that so hard for you people?
It's very normal that beta-testers like Hi-Jack do not distribute the beta-versions to the public. If he does, KiSS will skip him next time.
How would you like your player to be crashed by a not so perfect version? I guess you would blame Hi-Jack for releasing a beta-product!
We deffinately not release it and if a Beta breaks my player, it will become
replaced. We just received a new beta version 3.0.23 with again progress
made in stability. We'll try flashing our unit tonight with a special method
and take up our reports from there.
Hopefully tonight, we'll be able to confirm most burning issues and advice
KISS to release the FW as soon as possible. We not want people to wait
much longer for these improvements as they initially where promised 1 or 2
weeks after the 3.0.14 release...

Well they missed the boat and my unit is in the post for a refund. I will also be recommending to anyone who asks to avoid this product and company at all costs and I have at least 8 friends waiting on my feedback who were ready to purchase lol

your not wrong there, i regret it too at the moment. if the new firmware does not fix my issues then im gona try to get a refund but mine is been more than a month old would have got it sooner but most of that is on just waiting around for new firmware etc..
I should have went for custom built HTPC (Entertainment PC) much more functions and upgradable.
Understandable emotion.
Boxes like the KiSS are the future. I might be the lucky owner of a more or less flawless KiSS, but in one or two years these mediaboxes will absolutely rule, esp. with new wireless techniques coming our way.
HTPC's are perhaps more flexible, nevertheless also those machines are also buggy when based on Windows and quite expensive if you want quality. And you definately have to move them out of sight. :P

I've been planning on making a mac Mini core solo based HTPC for some time now. Better overall OS and limited/controlled HW base should make it much easier build a stable system. And even a core solo boasts enough punch to decode 1080i H264 and it seems to be quite simple to configure to output pretty much any resolution that your plasma/LCD/beamer wants. Picture quality not propably quite up to par with Sigma chip based players. Small, silent, not that hugely expensive, all that is needed is a bit more development in the remote-controlled HTPC frontends. A VLC/mplayer plugin for Mediacentral would propably be enough to convince me.

I for one will wait untill it's tested, tested again, and again untill stable. Then I will upgrade.... Untill then. Cut kiss some slak.....

Of course not, but it's still an accusation because it implies that you're here under false pretences, with an agenda, trying to manipulate the board.
personaly, i would like to see a kiss member on this forum, as at least then we would get a feeling as to what was going on,
but the likelyhood of anyone from kiss breaking cover is very low, as he would recieve soo much abuse from frustrated users.

For my person i am not a frustrated user because i was one of the lucky guys
where 80% of the problems peoples told here are not fiting to my DP-600.
But i hate when peoples are *issing on your leg ( sorry for that ) by telling you
an Firmware-Release date ( like Kiss does ) and there is none. I think this is what peoples generaly makes angry. If they tell me the trues, no problem for me to wait longer.

About your second question ... I would say forget it, best case - something like Tvonky otherwise ... wait for DP-700.
