Hi guys,

We today got confirmed from kISS that DP-558 will be shipping with
Sigma's new 8560 chip on board!! Also the Time Shifting has been
confirmed so that's our top 2 expectations on the KiSS DP-558.

FTPD and real FF/RW is partly confirmed as in "working on it" so this means
it might as well be there from the start or shortly after the release!
(some will be sceptic but i'm not, KiSS is improving their act)

Looking even more forward to DP-558 as i was already.

Speecs are looks very good , still need QPel and WMV there for will wait for DP-6xx models .

Can the 558 read TS moviefiles, such as used with the Dreambox 7000S?

Hi-Jack , any news about this ghos player ?

You said it went into production two weeks ago , so anyone got it ?

(Not that I need this player , I just want KiSS to make new firmware for my DP-500 ;) ) .

Found this on "Gooddvdstuff" today...

"Kiss confirmed today that the Plasmas are being delayed AGAIN to August 1st along with the DP 558".

Hmmm

It's posed more like a questions...

We still maintain 16 June as date...
That's the latest date officially confirmed.

I doubt August is target date for dp-558!!
Plasma, yes, most likely, DP-558, no way!!

Pixmania.com has changed today the availability date of DP-558 from 28/05 to 08/06.

Let's hope that's a final date.

Sorry man.
Not final date.

Soonest Possible: 16/05/2004
Expected: Beginning July

Reason: Updated info, still verifying with KiSS!
Post as soon as we get the info verified.

"Soonest Possible: 16/05/2004"

Are you sure? Shouldn't that be 16/06/2004?

And what ?
We must make a gift with the Vatican for that or what ?
Ok for me but ONLY when hypothetical new "working" firmware come...

Mikele,

I was refering to my mistake in the date...
I never talked about Vatican and stuff or worshipping KiSS, reward or anything else.

The DP-558 will be different, to what extend we will only know when it comes to us!
Not before that :-)

Well that's good news.

The way I understand it the different between the 558 and 568 was the version of the chip from sigma. Is that correct??

If that's the case I can't see any reason for the 568 ever being released. Do you share this believe?

If the 558 uses the 8560 chip there should be nothing preventing the player from recording in mpeg 4 instead of doing it in mpeg 2 since it's the firmware that has to be rewritten to be able of doing that. Am I right in this assumption?

Any options on this?

As far as I know the 8560 does only the decoding part. Encoding (thats what you ar talking about) is a different ball game. The 558 does MPEG1? or 2 (hard or software!?) and later models will do it in MPEG4.

Decoding "Standard" MPEG 4 with AAC sound would be great. My Sanyo C1 Cam is recording this (30 f/sec 640*480) and until today I could only play it on the PC or recode it.

The difference between 558 and 568 would have been that the 568 would have a DvD Recorder on board. The 558 will not record in Mpeg4 but in Mpeg2 (Hardware).

The 658 will record in DivX Format.
If KiSS ever releases the 568, it will hold the DvD burner but for the rest, it would be the same as the DP-558.

For me it would be enough to DECODE and play MPEG 4 with AAC.

Recording with MPEG2 is great.
