Hello NG,

is it possible to use an USB WLAN Stick to make the TViX ready for WLAN? I know, the transfer rate of WLAN will be to slow for videostreaming, but I think it is the easiest way to connect the TViX to a network, because other devices are a bit far away. :D

Thanks a lot.

Best regards,
Michael

It is not possible as the TViX USB support is only loaded with generic
storage devices like USB Sticks and external HDD drives. It's a common
confusion that make users ask these questions. The media Players have
no PnP OS installed with a huge Driver List integrated :-)

The only solution for TViX is Powerlines to make it wireless from one spot to
another, where there is a Wall Socket for power free...

Enjoy

I use the Linksys game adapter on all 3 Tvixs I own. They all work fine at the same time with no interference, and basically it brings wireless to the Tvix with no issues. Interestingly it can also allow a desktop with no wireless abilities (or connected to the network) to get a wireless link to the network. You also just plug it into the network port so no using up USB ports. Nice :)

I used my Slimdevices Squeezbox as a wireless bridge to make my TViX wireless and it's great .. and plenty fast enough for regular streaming video/ISOs - it's not up to HD material though, but that's not an issue because I just FTP HD stuff to the internal HDD.

...you need to connect it via NFS though with wireless I've noticed, Windows File Sharing isn't up to the task.

Hello NG,

thanks for your replies. Is it possible to use the TViX as a NAS with this wireless option. I would like to have a central sharepoint for Videos, Pictures and MP3s. Normally everything is played in the living room, where the TViX should be. But sometimes you need the content on a computer. It would be nice to use the TViX as a NAS.

Best regards,
Michael

This is a posting (included picture of set-up) on my own forum, solution with a Synology DS-406 and TVIX, I will try to arrange a WLAN solution in near future with same equipment.

Only arrange proper USB wlan stick, which would i use?

It won't work with sticking a WLAN USB Stick in the unit. It will only work with
a WLAN Game Adapter. The TViX can also not be set as NAS as it has no
NAS functions integrated. It can see SMB shares but can't serve any.

You can use FTP to transfer content to and from the TViX. if you need a
NAS, buy a NAS :-) Keep your content there and send from NAS to TViX and
PC...

There is a WLAN support "in work". Curretnly there is still a bug in the LINUX driver. but once it is solved, I am pretty confident that some WLAN chipsets will be supported.

Hi all,

I will demonstrate that this solution is working, first impression seems that playing isn't that great.

Setup:
TViX 5000 with 500GB ATA connected to a Samsung 19" TFT with DVI modus is 1080i.
Synology CS-406 with 500GB SATA 2
Unicorn MW-7000 Switch-Wireless accespoint with 3 antenna (MIMO) 5 dbi each.
Linksys Wireless -G Range Expender. (config and IP setting seems oke (WEP PKI active & tehy are connected)

So TViX 5000 is connected with 10/100 utp to my Linksys.

The rest is switch with 10/100 utp cables to my Unicorn Switch.

TViX 5000 can see the network public folder on the CS-406 use SAMBA.

First impression opening a .iso file first startup is oke.. then stotter and than hold for a while.
Other .ts (Prisonbreak and .srt file) file 720p dd5.1 448kbs is stottering all the way (beginning to end).

Range between Linksys and accespoint is less then one meter.

We have demonstrated this same setup on our last mega 3 day "hcc!dagen" Fair in a wired solution alle went VERY oke!!
During this three days we encountered none reboot what so ever, even when we got very big .ts files to demonstate. USB connected.

Any remarks how to improve performance?

Yes, try to use NFS instead of Samba. It's much faster. Especially on the Tvix.

My only use for the TViX is to play ripped DVDs, from my NAS using NFS. The TViX, connected/bridged wireless through the SqueezeBox, will do this with absolutely no problem? Have you noticed anything at all, or any little glitches or problems? Thanks

All our TVIX models as well as the Dueple are connected with the CS-406 with samba. Even High def .ts and other files works also fine.
Some ripped DVD's are not oke (why we don't know) we encounter some problems streaming by NAS. When placed directly on internal HDD of these devices.. no problem. Overall I must conclude it works great!
