VR-558 DVD problem!!
Hello everyone!
A couples of days ago, my Kiss VR-558 stop working. In the fornt pannel it says Please Wait! and stops there. Pressing any button has no response. I tryed disconnected, and keep pressin eject button, but no luck. I decided to open the case and use another DVD drive. When swicthed on, it started up perfectly.
I now know it is a problem of the DVD drive so I am going to change it for a Samsung SH-D162D that I have just purchased.
Now is where I have the problem. The old DVD does no response to open the tray, so I cannot take it away!! There is no way I can take the plastic off from the DVD player!
Do you have any idea of how to take it out without breaking the front plastic protector?
Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas!!

Already replied to PM...
Connect to PC and see if you get it to work. Usually DVD drives have a clip that ejects the tray but I believe these drives did not have it...

Hi!
The problem is that I cannot take the drive out of the kiss because of the plastic front. I belive this plastic front can be removed when the DVD tray is open, but I have no way of opening!

Not an issue. Disconnect the IDE cable from the player and attach one from the PC when the kiss is right next to it. It takes a little time to do this but hence it can work if the system will load it, right clicking the device and clicking eject...

First of all i would not be sure about the DVD
90% of all problems are related to PSU
you can always open the DVD if you disconnect the ide and use a paperclip on the front of the dvd to open
(you need to drill a hole in the plastic, or remove the DVD out of the player so you can use the front)

Is this still the case for the VR-558, and not just the DP-558? I have scanned these forums pretty thoroughly, and it seems to me that all complaints about a poor PSU have concerned the DP-558, and not the VR-558.
I got a DP-558 in 2006, which failed after six months or so, almost certainly after a PSU failure. I got a VR-558 as a replacement, and it has mostly worked fine for two years now. Although one annoyance I've had is that if it's switched off, I seem to have to wait for some minutes before I can turn it on again. If I just turn it on again right away, it just stands there with the "Please wait" message. This is a big problem if there is a brief power outage.
I've also noticed that it can sometimes hang if I've got a set-top box connected to the Scart plug already switched on when I turn it on. So I turn the Kiss on first, and the STB afterwards. I don't know if any of this can concern the PSU.

I have 1 vr-558 (for development) and the psu broke (3 caps replaced)
I know 3 people with a vr-558 and 3 out of 3 have psu problems (did replace the caps, so its fixed)
so im sure that the vr-558 has the same psu problems
if you are a regular user you psu will fail after +- 2 years

Hello to everyone and thanks for the help!!
I fixed the problem!!
I connect the Kiss to my computer and open the DVD tray. Replace the DVD player with a new one. Reload the kiss 1.8 firmware and everything works great now.
The only problem I find is that from time to time in the initial kiss page says: "Hard disc not configured". I re-start and everything is find again. Might be a hard disc problem or still reckon it is the PSU?
Best wishes!!

Argh! I had been hoping you'd be wrong. I got my current player in December 2006, and it still worked fine. Until now. So I guess I was extra lucky to get three months more than usual out of it.
Now, since I bought it in a store here in Norway, hopefully I'm protected by the five year warranty I'm supposed to have according to Norwegian consumer laws. But will I get to keep all the recordings on my hard drive?
