I would also refer you to the link at the bottom of that page (Xtreamer version). This is the script I use for my 6500 because I prefer the extra sharpness it gives. Proof that icons larger than 147x200 can be used on a 6500
Hi Coolstream, thanks for the link. I read the instructions and used the script as suggested, I also used IrfanView directly with no success; I still get borders:

Name:	folder.png

The original PNG

The new JPG

I tried messing with IrfanView as well, but again no success. Are there any settings in IrfanView that I may be missing?

Thanks,

Y

Hi Yorgo, sorry about the misunderstanding on my part.

I am now seeing the problem, and it's bad news for you.

The problem is that JPG does not support transparencies and therefore the 'transparent' mask colour becomes opaque when the PNG is turned into JPG.

No amount of tweaking of Irfanview will ever achieve what you want to do, sorry.

The problem could be worked around if your tvix.jpg were a one colour background. In this case, you could simply tell Irfanview to convert the transparent color to that same colour, however, because your background is a picture, you will not be able to do this.

I was pretty sure that was going to be the answer, that JPGs don't support tranparencies. Oh, well, nothing I can't work around . . .

Hopefully DViCo will rethink supporting PNGs down the road for this specific reason.

Thanks again for all your help, Coolstream. You rock.

One final suggestion would be to open an account with DViCo and ask for PNG support via a My Q & A session. (I have suggested this to all 66xx users who have asked about this)

Good Luck

Well, got a response from DViCo this morning:

"Hello,

We regret to say that realtek chipset doesn''t support PNG for cover art icon.

thanks."

Bummer

That reply from DViCo definetly conflicts with their reply quoted here (of which you are aware).

Furthermore, you can also ask them why they say this to your question when they already provide PNG support (with transparency) in the ability to customise the menu. http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/faq/defaul...rial=38&id=414

Thanks for that information, Coolstream. I sent a follow up email to DViCo's QA section. Let's see how they respond

According to the answers to my follow up, they really are struggling with PNGs and RTK chipsets:

172.28.xxx.49 Hello,

This is truly unfortunate but I suppose there is nothing that can be done. Perhaps this will be available again in a future non-realtek (ie, sigma) TViX?
--> Yes, if we use sigma chipset, we can support .png cover art again.

If the 6600 and S1 can use PNGs to change the main user interface per DViCo''s own Product FAQ, how is it that PNGs cannot be used more deeply in the folder structure?
--> It is some different from main page.
We''ll try to check .png cover art again but i don''t know we can support it easily.

More bummer news; I sent DViCo a file of the format I use and loads of screenshots from my 6500A (which works beautifully with cover art and background images) and N1 (not so much), and here's the response:

"Hello,
I checked this file.
background image is available with list mode only.
In cover art mode, can''t display tvix.jpg if this folder has sub folders.
This is spec at this moment."

I asked if this spec will change and am waiting to hear back.

On the bright side, I've posted many questions to the Q&A section over the past 2 weeks. Can't say I'm ecstatic about the answers but they've been very quick to reply. That counts for something, I guess.
