Does anyone know if HDI will add support for 10-bit pixel bit depth decoding in the next or any future firmware update for their players? At the least as a firmware option for their next generation of players?
Hi-Jack, it would be great if we could get an answer to this from a dev. I personally wanted to start encoding all my files into 10-bit pixel depth eventually, at the least for the potential space savings benefit alone, but as I see it now, the Dune player (i have a BD prime 3.0) is unable to handle any of my mkvs using a high10 x264 profile with their current decoding engine. The audio and subtitles pull through, but the video does not.
I am encoding my 10-bit mkvs using the following x264 parameters:
--profile high10 --preset slow --tune film --level 4.1 --crf 17.00 --ref 4 --no-fast-pskip
This is the same profile I use for the majority of all my other films, I only increased crf from 18 to 17 and added the high10 profile to enable 10-bit pixel depth encoding.
