Hi Ronny. It's amazing that not having used this feature for a long time, I had totally forgotten about it.

I will investigate this in the next few days and see if I can help you.

I have checked the last updated manual, and although no mention is made of thumbnail.tvix, in section 6.2.3, they say this

The currently supported maximum resolution of picture is 3888 x 2592.

Support browsing by icon mode
Make a empty file named as "icon.tvix" on the folder that you want to browse by icon.
The file name for the file used for the icon files is case sensitive, it must be the 'exact same name' as the media file except that the extension must be jpg or png(if you want to use transparency, set the transparency color as 0xC8C8C8.)
To show the folder as icon, please put "folder.jpg" or "folder.png" on the folder.
The maximum icon size is 720 * 480, and the best size is 100 * 136.
HINT: Press the FUNCTION key on a folder to toggle ICON mode

Are your photos within the maximum resolution?

Hi Coolstream,
Thanks for replying ! I had trouble getting thumbnails anyhow on 1.5.16 so i downgraded to 1.3.168 again where thumbnails are an option in the view screen. However, the problem of having some thumbnails and some not remains. I do not exceed the maximum resolution you mention above. I tried to find out the differences in the pictures but could not find any logic reason. I must admit the problem appears mostly in folders that contain pictures that i took from several websites, all jpg, but different resolution and some have more exif info than others.
I noticed in your reply that you are talking about icon mode. If i choose that mode, i only get the icon of a folder, nothing more, nothing less in 1.5.16. To get a view of the thumbnails i did the following : in each foto folder i made a text file without any content and renamed it to thumbnail.tvix but it did not work, so i copied a thumbnail.tvix of a folder i had created using 1.3.168 but that solution didn' work either. Moreover, in 1.5.16 the autorotate goes wrong : it rotates the pictures 180 degrees instead of 90 degress, so that is not much of a help in 1.3.168 it does rotate 90 degrees and the display is perfect.
So i am still stuck with that issue. I hope someone will find a solution one day

Kind regards,

Ronny

Hi. I read your reply with great interest because I seem to be getting similar results to you.

As an initial test, I took a small folder of low res images pulled from an old web site :
TViX did not show any icons at all but was able to view the either in slideshow or individually.

Second test took a folder of 4 camera images (taken by my sister, so totally free from any edits etc by me:
TViX showed icons for 3 of the 4 images. I have examined them with IrfanView info plugin and can see no fundamental difference between the 1 'bad' and 3 'good' photos. Since bit depth, DPI, compression etc were all the same, I resized the bad image (keeping all other factors the same) and TViX still refused to show the new image as a thumbnail

As for creating thumbnail.tvix, I had no problem creating a dummy file with Notepad and naming it as thumbnail.tvix

To do this, I open Notepad and create a new blank file. When naming it, I enclose thumnail.tvix within quotation marks, e.g.
Code:
"thumnail.tvix"
This forces any program to ignore the default extension for the file and name it with the name inside the quotation marks.

Did you remember to do this, or are your files actually called thumbnail.tvix.txt?

NOTE: Once I had created the first thumbnail.tvix, I was able to copy it to the next folder without any problem.

P.S. I am using FW 1.5.16

I remain at a loss to understand why some of the images are not being displayed as thumbnails. I am certain that this was not the case when I made my earlier replies in this thread.

Thanks again for replying, Coolstream. It seems you have the same issues as i do with the thumbnails. I cannot explain it either, but it is a unfortunate thing. And btw i did delete the .txt of course
Maybe you know of a good multimediaplayer ? I started a topic with that question, regarding the problems i have with the TViX. It can be found at http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28835 but unfortunalely no one responded so i still have no adequate solution ...

grtz

The TViX question is a strange one indeed and I doubt it will ever be answered. I am considering trying out a hacked TViX FW (for which there is still support). Maybe that will hold better support for image viewing.

I have also replied to your other post with my take on your requirements. Let's hope that it brings more positive results

Thanks for the reply, Coolstream, that is the reason why i tried other firmwares to find out which one is capable of auto-rotate.
