Default Multiple Duneplayers, Single Jukebox??

Hi

My setup is as follows:

- Dune HD Smart H1 (in bedroom)
- Dune HD Max (in living room)
- Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus

I want to use a single Jukebox & be able to watch media on both the bedroom & living room player from all three storage locations (NAS, Bedroom HDD, Living Room HDD) while having a shared index so all my files are brought together on one screen.

My Movies - I've set up My Movies & am monitoring both the NAS & Bedroom Dune using SMB with UNC path configured. I'm told this won't work & I'll get stuttering video on each player when it tries to play media on it's attached drive while accessing via SMB so this will be no good as I can't run two seperate indexes?

Dunex - Tried this but as it doesn't create an index & just deposits the files in the media folders, I'll need to remember where I've stored things & won't be able to see all my films on one backdrop. For instance using Dunex I'll have to have shortcuts to "Films on NAS", "Films on Bedroom Dune" "Films on Living Room Dune" etc on both players

Can anyone advise a way around this as I don't want to waste the drive space in the Dune players & have to shell out on a huge NAS

Any help appreciated

John

You will not be able to use a single index because each Dune will access the files differently. That is, SMB on one will be a local file on another. As you discovered, trying to access a local file via SMB results in major stuttering.

I'm not aware of any jukebox software that can handle this. You would need it to export two indexes, and have two different "Path Configurations" (MyMovies terminology) or "Absolute Paths" (Zappiti terminology).

The only option I can see is to export one master index, then write some software to copy the index & change the paths as needed. Every time you update your master index, you run this program to update the local Dunes' indexes.

How good are your programming skills?

Just to clarify: with the programmatic solution I propose, each Dune would see all the movies in one interface. From the user's perspective each Dune would appear identical.

Yo,

Don't know if this would help but I'm old school and am still stuck using a proggie called TViXie that I was used to when the 1st jukebox came out for the TViX 6500. It also supports Dune and I have 2 Dune players myself. All info and fanart is stored in the movie folder itself and you only have to create fanart once. So it doesn't care how many Dune players are attached!

That sounds like you would have to know where each movie was stored. Instead of having one big alphabetical list of movies, you have to first navigate to the HDD containing the movie you want? How do you remember on which HDD a particular movie is stored?

Thanks for the suggestions. Got to say my programming skills are not the best

For now I've decided to plump for Dunex. It saves me booting Parallels on my Macbook everytime I add something & I quite like the interface. Until my collection gets a lot larger, I've moved all of the TV onto one Dune HDD & left all of the films on the NAS. This way from the Dune main screen, I've only one or two clicks to bring up the Movie wall or TV wall whichever player I'm on. This has already led me to a new problem - getting straight to the TV folder without having to go through the root share first

This is becoming an obsession!

Tell me about obsession! I spend far more time curating my movie library than I do actually watching movies.
